What bothers me is the fact that off ice issues with him is nothing new, he has a great season last year, you give him a new contract then 8 games in he's on waivers. Don't you think you should of sold him at 50 cents on the dollar during the offseason, to now basically giving him away for free. Just seems like very bad asset management given that pros and cons didn't just become exposed yesterday.

Oh to be the fly on that wall...

imagine?

somethinf major must have went down last night if they didn’t even bother trying to trade him. This isn’t about the player or the contract or production guys. Obviously something major happened for management to say get this kid the f*** out of here NOW

I know we love JD and Gorton, but our management has been very questionable.

Tony isn’t doing himself any favors, but this entire situation is a disaster.
How are you willing to lose him for nothing??? How??? Wouldnt you try and trade him for something? Anything?

And what is the next move? Jack f***ing Johnson coming back into the lineup? I mean dumb DQ benched Smith last night putting us down to 5 f***ing D when we had a lead against a team that was down to 5 D.

Wtf is going on here...

Which teams can afford to pick up a 4.8 million dollar cap hit? Too lazy to check

A quick check includes Sens, Kings, Devils, Wings that have compliant cap space. Not sure about the logistics behind that and whether that money is allocated for other things. Also a couple of cap compliant fringe teams could make transactions to accommodate, most likely.

His cap hit is gonna make him hard to claim for most teams. If NYR aren’t gonna play him anyways might as well save the cap space. Unlike a lot of fans I like Tony D but he was not worth the cap hit he signed for after just one decent offensive season. Yes he did take a one year deal before this for really low cap hit but he should’ve been offered like $3M tops. At $4.8M, the teams that have the cap space probably have no desire to take on his contract due to the current economic situation.

He must’ve done something or said something to piss off someone in the organization. Sadly he has probably played his final game as a Ranger.

Honestly I doubt anyone even claims him.

He clearly isn’t in the long term plans of the org. Sucks they didn’t get good value back for him when they could have.

Agreed. Terrible asset management. It was clear that ultimately due to his team’s ire with his conduct and his salary in conjunction with the young kids still coming that he wouldn’t be here long term, but these seems insane.

Either something happened, which is possible but for which there is no evidence yet, or, the brain dead management actually used him to send a message or somehow thought Jack Johnson was a better option. After Brendan Smith got effing benched last night too. If that’s the case this is downright insane.

We know smith was awful. We know Johnson is awful. We know DeAngelo’s history, we know georgiev blew another game. We know Quinn has been outclassed by every coach we’ve gone up against.

I mean did he snap in that Lockerroom?

He’s been a cancer in the room for a while. His production is what kept that in check to an extent.

Rosasco is sick of his shit and JD doesn’t take fondly to his cancerous ways either.

He made his bed...

What reports are there that he’s a cancer?

If it turns out he bad mouthed Quinn. And. This is the reaction. We’re in trouble.

we now know how far this organization is willing to throw its future down the drain (no not Tony, Kakko and Laffy) to defend Quinn.

but let’s hope that isn’t the case.

Yep. Like there’s no doubt DeAngelo is a POS. And he doesn’t look the same right now.

But this team has made far more bad/questionable asset management decisions than good ones lately. It’s troubling, and I hope if it continues people can put their love for John Davidson aside and look at the situation rationally.

If he is/was this much of a problem you'd think they would have moved on from him in the off-season. Unfortunately now we may lose him for nothing, which sucks.

I dislike the player but wanted him to succeed on the ice. This is all unfortunate. Even if no one claims him, you'd think the relationship between the parties has been irreparably damaged.

Was thinking last night, randomly, that I could see him having an Anthony Duclair-like career. Very talented, some good seasons, some not so good seasons, not really latching on because of issues not totally related to his play.

Hard to hate on JD here. He isnt the only one in that room and he likely played a big role in getting Panarin here.

But overall losing DeAngelo for nothing is a natural disaster.
