We are not trading him. And his defensive deficiencies can be sheltered with less defensive zone starts and a fundamentally good defender like Lindgren.

Yeah, he and Lindgren look like a great future pair. I'm definitely digging that, as of now, the rangers could very well be staring down the barrel of 1 first pair D and like 2 2nd pairs. I feel like when it all shakes out, we're going to have the beastly D which is compiled of 6-7 #1-#4 D. Future looking TIGHT on the backend.

he's unbelievably intelligent even if he's kind of wet paper defensively. I think he's a 60 point D tbh.

Also keep him on PP1. The fluidity he brings esp when Zib comes back is too valuable

Depends on who your defensemen are.
Agreed. This cannot just be looked at in a vacuum. Who are the rest of the defensemen and who is partnered with him? Clearly he needs a Lindgren type.

What happens to him in the future will be a combination of how he plays out the rest of the year and what the organizational view is of the strengths and weaknesses of the big club. He could probably be resigned with the money saved on Nametsnikov. But if they view that the other defensemen are also advancing at a good clip AND that they thing there is a weakness that can be shored up by moving him, then that is what they do.

Personally, I believe that he stays. Especially if he breaks the 50 point mark. At that point you are not hoping that you have a young defenseman that can do that and already have one. He plays with gumption but does need a defensive consciousness as a partner. I believe that Gorton targeted him on purpose and that purpose is playing out and is not viewed as a trade chip.

Tony DeAngelo: Locker room cancer; coaches nightmare.

Love pics like these to drown the haters in crow.

Only when he was in juniors. That was a suspension, for a slur directed at a teammate. As a professional I have not heard anything about him being a bad teammate.
Only thing that has come up is his maturity level, which is what got him in trouble with Quinn last year. But there is no "bad teammate" narrative.

I think the issue last year was more about his maturity on the ice and being consistent with his effort, then a problem off the ice.

hes been marvelous since end of last season.

since 1/1/19 hes played 50 games.

he has 31 points in those last 50 games. this season hes nearly a ppg player.

hes a 50 point guy this season if healthy. easy.

and the best bang for your buck in the entire league right now on the blue line. 925k

we need to wrap him up and sign him to a min 2 yr deal or if we plan on keeping him, longer term.

lundqvist is no guarantee. ADA has proven he has high end offensive skills and the ability to thrive in NYC and hes convinced me hes worthy of a long term deal.

He should def give us a 'friendlier' deal. As good as the kid is, he got the major shot and confidence here. We're a great fit for each other and hopefully they give him the 'core' deal, 4 @ 4 would be an insane discount. Anyone think after how good he is, he'd get even more than that? I'm hoping a 4-4.5x4 is what it comes to. Would give us room to be super competitive on the backend for sure.

I think he might be better on the 2nd unit. He's given the ability to move around and switch spots instead of being in a stagnant setup that usually occurs with the 1st unit, which seems to play into his strengths. But in all reality whether it's or Fox we are in good shape.

That is not an insane discount for a kid that has done it for a relatively short period of time. I think that the years and range you state are actually on par with what should be commensurate.

If he hits 50, (and he was on pace for that last year, despite being yo-yo'd in an out of the lineup) then you have to take all of that play into consideration. He's exceeded expectations and then some.

You pay the kid or someone else is going to.

I said at the start of the season he would produce 60 pts this year . The kid has all the offensive moves and always finds the holes to jump into in the opposition end .....hard to teach those skills . Defensively he needs some work....but his skating skills are off the charts as far as I am concerned . We got LUCKY in that deal although somebody must have had an inkling of the untapped potential ....somebody went out on a limb to get him.

hell get paid.

it will suck if any of us believe a guy like lundkvist can just walk in here and do what ADA does. he cant and wont. there will be a gaping hole on the right side if ADA isnt resigned.

fox is unique. hes been pretty much rock solid since day 1 but even with that, tony is the better player right now and assuming we wont see a steep drop off if we let tony walk is short sided at best, regardless if we have nils or not.
