There's a certain Canadian team that really wishes they didn't let an RFA with no leverage strong arm them by sitting out for half a season.

You really don't want to send RFAs with no arbitration rights the message that they have something to gain by holding out. The line is in the sand, and the Rangers have a ton of blue chip prospects that will be in the same exact position as Tony D before we know it. If the Rangers bend, these younger guys will take notice.

Tony's production and skillset is worth more than what he will get. Sucks for him.

This exactly.

Well yea I would rather have DeAngelo playing than have a 22nd player sit around in the press box to watch every game and fill in when he decides it’s the day to healthy scratch kakko/kravtsov/Anderson/fox/hajek ke whoever.

Also they have enough young players on deals that they can easily make paper moves to demote them to the AHL/promote someone else whenever Quinn wants them to sit anyway.

And they can certainly go up to 1.9M if they want to run 22 guys as there is definitely no need for 23

Ah yes. The paper moves.

Those don’t work when the team is on a western road trip and two regulars have the flu.

Nylander didn't strong arm them. The Leafs got a good deal. He's underpaid.

Its painful now but indeed, they'll be happy about it in the long run.
Sort of like the incredibly hot tantanmen I had last night.

Respectfully disagree. In any case, just like with Tony D, whether or not he's underpaid is not the issue. He was an RFA with no leverage who held out until the Leafs blinked and offered him UFA-tier money. How many UFA years did they buy out? The Leafs got bullied, and that's important context when you consider the RFA contracts they inked immediately after.

Marner just signed for 11 mil. Four of their forwards account for ~40 million on their cap. One defensemen signed through 20-21, a Morgan Rielly at 5 mil.... Mistakes were made.

I like Tony a lot, but Rangers shouldn't bend.

His leverage is by not playing he makes a cup contending team significantly worse.

DeAngelo, however, does not have that leverage.

1. I don’t blame the Rangers for not caving

2. I don’t blame Tony for trying to maximize his value

3. I question if he is doing that

4. You find money for talent - you work with “difficult” (no one here is qualified to speak on that) talent...I’d much rather have a difficult talent player than 6 agreeable scrubs.

Didn't Derek stepan...a guy who wore a letter basically his entire time here hold out for more money?

I keep hearing this. ^^^ Stepan was our leading scorer at the time over Rick Nash and Brad Richards. Hardly a good comparison.

the DUCKS have cap space and we’re looking a Faulk . I bet there’s convos w them in DeAngelo
Yeah I heard Faulk is available. Faulk for Kreider maybe? Is that possible? Is he beyond our price range? This would go a long way to shore up our D.

Yeah I heard Faulk is available. But isn't he with Carolina? Faulk for Kreider maybe? Is that possible? This would go a long way to shore up our D.

Sorry was thinking Tony D to the ducks not Faulk

Cap hell is here . They don’t have a D to send back though ? Has to be RD too or find a ufa filler like our boy McQuaid lol

I don't see any pressing need to send ADA packing. We need to get rid of Kreider or his situation will fester all year long.

Well Kreider will go for sure but he could help Kakko this year

I do hope DeAngelo signs but at some point you move on if he’s stubborn

Seriously. We have two 1st round pick power forward types starting their rookie seasons. Having a successful veteran power forward to guide them even for half a season would be beneficial. Plus Kreider's value is going to be highest at the deadline anyway.

I have a feeling this is not going to end well.
I agree and ya know what? He’s killing himself and now I’m all about watching him fail.

Weeks ago I said “hold out get what ya can”

What’s he getting tomorrow that he wasn't offered yesterday?

Sit the whole year.

I no longer care.

Sit the whole year... spend your days tweeting like agent orange.

I still think he will sign before the first puck drop. If he still doesn't know the score, Brisson does.

I agree at this point.
Either bad advice or he doesn’t want to be here in the 1st place.

He’s not proven enough to warrant a huge bump in salary on a one year deal, the rangers don’t have the space to even sign him to longer term with higher salary. So his best long term personal play was to holdout until camp started to see if gorts would increase the offer aliitle, but be on the ice and stake your claim to 2RD to have as good a season from the start as possible to cash in (somewhere)

Him not showing speaks that he just wants to move on now. Bc that’s where this is headed.

And if that’s the case F optimal value. Package him to free some additional cap space to a team who needs both the RD and versatile forward, and everything will be cleaner and easier to manage from so many standpoints.

We have too many forwards to begin with, we’re up against the cap, and still should solidify the C position.

I’d love for tony D to be a gunho ranger who puts it all together, bc his attitude and snarl when channeled properly is awesome to have. But something speaks to the he’s not long for the rangers and he doesn’t care bc he’s got other things in mind.
