A few thoughts.

I am vaccinated. Thank God. Was part of the Pfizer trial. My wife and I did a vacation to Tampa recently and did an indoor cruise. She isn't vaccinated, but we think we dodged COVID throughout, through some luck and some careful maneuvering. It was so nice to do some normal human things like hang out with a buddy, watch a Boltz game at Sparkman's Wharf (outside on a screen), do a 2 hour cruise, and go to an aquarium. We were masked all the time indoors, but we had fun. I can't wait until we have herd immunity, which it sounds like we'll have this summer.

Only watched the 3rd. Really nice hockey by our guys. It seemed Dallas would throw a lot on net in the 3rd, but Petr was equal to the task. Honestly, even though it was Petr's first game in ages, I felt WAAY more confident with him in net during the empty net sequence than with Reims or Ned. He is our starter, and I don't think that's debatable.

We deserved the win from everything I read.
HE WAS A WEE BIT RUSTY IN THE FIRST, BUT THAT'S QUITE UNDERSTANDABLE. ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ALL KNOW HE HATES LOW SHOT VOLUME GAMES.

PRETTY FLAWLESS LATER ON. LET'S PILE UP THOSE SHUTOUTS.

Honestly, I kind of *LOVE* a goalie who thrives in high volume situations. Petr is maybe the perfect goalie for us. He can have a shaky game if it's like 40-16 shots for Canes, but he can absolutely own a game, and he is a warrior. He thrives with high danger shots. And he has so much energy and spunk. He reminds me of Irbe, and I love him accordingly.

I can't think of a successful vaccine that has not protected others from getting a virus, unless those others are anti-vaxxers in a measles outbreak, which in this case, they're on their own. So unless the conspiracy theorists are right about the vaccine being a false flag operation to spread computer chips to brainwash the public, I think we're alright to take the masks off for good after the 2nd shot.

That is probably correct. Which means it shouldn't take long until it's statistically proven correct, and I'll wait until then, thanks.

Did he get boarded, was there a malicious event, or was it just a normal hockey play?

Cory Lavalatte tweeted something about seeing the first sign of discomfort after a pretty normal shift. Grabbed his abdominal area going to the bench. I don’t think it was any kind of impact injury, probably pulled or tore something.

I STILL DON'T LIKE THIS SWALLOW THE WHISTLE ATTITUDE.

FOULS ARE FOULS.

agreed but this is how playoff games will be called.

I was really encouraged at the Canes play and they gave out more than they got last night.

Stars are a big team and played similar to how others will in the playoffs against us.

Canes played like a Stanley Cup team last night.

Yeah and it looks like the vaccines, at least the 3 big ones right now (Pfizer, Moderna, J&J) are good against the variants we've been seeing.

Also saw that Pfizer is working on a covid/influenza hybrid shot that will effectively act as a booster for each with only a single poke going forward. That's the end game on us battling this thing.

That is probably correct. Which means it shouldn't take long until it's statistically proven correct, and I'll wait until then, thanks.

I would think by the end of the year, the mask mandates will probably be lifted, and we'll probably be back to full capacity in stadiums for sports in the fall. We just have to get to the point where anyone who wants the vaccine is able to get it. At that point, the onus of keeping someone safe legitimately falls on the individual, and if you get sick, its basically your own damn fault. Once we've reached that point, and its coming quick, hell in NC anyone who wants one can get one on Wednesday, then the mandates become nothing more than security theater.

I wouldn't be surprised if all leagues make vaccines mandatory for participation going into the 2021-22 seasons, and if anyone opts out, the league cannot be held responsible for illness. Based on the science involved right now, I'm a little surprised we're even bothering to still test those who are fully vaccinated, though I understand why we are.

Rod with the subtle flex about how tough he was when playing.

Well.... he's not wrong.

Incredibly good performance for 54 minutes. Very physical - Canes were really running around out there and making a hit whenever there was an opportunity to hit. Skjei hit was a beauty. That is a good look, come playoff time.

Pretty clean game from both sides. Excluding some cross-checks, not too many illegal stick plays in the game from either team and I didn't recognize any interference or bad hits, which is quite incredible when one team puts up 54! hits in the game and the other one 35.

Oettinger was amazing and it could've easily been 3/4 - 0 without that guy in the net. Mrazek was absolutely solid and very calm and positionally perfect in almost every situation.

Dallas is a quite opportunistic and good team. Last 5 minutes was a bit of a nail-biter once again.

Good win!

Yeah, I've both read and heard that most experts feel that the vaccines do keep the vaccinated from spreading the disease. But as Hank said, nothing has been completely finalized in that regard. I've grown to hate my mask....but probably because I dutifully wear the damn thing per guidelines.

I was watching the Netflix doc Drive To Survive where Lewis Hamilton comes down with the flu and he's sitting in the middle of a conference room with all his crew and all I can think is "PUT ON A GODDAMN MASK YOU DUMBASS".

So yeah, I guess you could say I'm coming out of this pandemic with a different perspective.

If McGinn misses any length of time that puts the Canes in a weird pickle. Putting Lorentz or Foegele up on the top line isn't a gamebreaking downgrade. They could go that route. However there is also the extra push now to make that trade and bring in a forward that upgrades the top-6.

And given that the Preds are now in a playoff position that upgrade will not be Forsberg (though it very likely was never going to be anyways)...

I love my masks. I’ve always been a bit of a grumpy bastard and this just enables me to make faces and grumble at people in stores and at work. Love it.

Yeah, I will continue to follow the guidelines....doesn't mean I'm any more comfortable though. Some of it is just selfish....I wear glasses and cannot, for the life of me, consistently find a mask or the right positioning so that my glasses don't constantly fog up. I pretty much take them off when I'm in a store and such, only pulling them up when it's absolutely necessary.

So yeah, I guess you could say I'm coming out of this pandemic with a different perspective.

My first visit to Japan many years ago, I asked one of my Japanese colleagues why some people wore masks in public. He told me usually, it's because they are doing the polite and respectful thing because they have some sort of sniffles, cold, cough, or other ailment and are trying not to spread it to others and some wore them to protect themselves during flu season as well. He went on to say for some younger people, it's become some of a "status symbol", but the genesis of it was reducing spread.

For me, wearing a mask wasn't a hard thing to do. I'm a woodworker who has dust allergies, so days where I spent many hours in a workshop, I would have a N95 mask on the full time I was there, sometimes 8-10 hour straight. Same goes with bad grass/plant allergies. When I'm mowing, brush hogging, etc.. at our farm, I'll have a mask on the full time as well.

The Bally's setup isn't my preference, but it honestly hasn't bothered me too much. But I've gotten much more used to going with the flow over the years in life. Don't sweat the small stuff.
