Tom Wilson, 20 goals and counting

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Yeah, teams simply had no answer for a guy who scored 5 goals in 21 games.

Hertl and Teravainen are literally twice the player Wilson is.

Lol. Good thing you aren't GM of any team.

I guarantee if you asked all 31 teams plus Seattle whether they'd rather have either of those other two players or Tom Wilson, it'd be pretty well unanimous for Tom Wilson.

Tom Wilson is a difference maker.

With all the suspensions and not scoring goals, def way better...

Yeah, you're really painting the whole picture and thinking rationally on this one.

Teams had no answer for him, and the production is a bonus. When Teravainen's playing scared on the perimeter because the guy their team has no answer for (has the phrase "looking for a Tom Wilson deterrent" somehow escaped you?) keeps reminding them what the playoffs feel like, you go ahead and let me know how it works out. Dubois is better, Panarin is better, Kessel is better, every Tampa player (possibly ever) has to be better, and J.T. Miller's certainly better, make no mistake about that. Marchessault, Neal, Tuch and co.? Better, hands down.

At plenty of stuff. But this is hockey and there's more than one way to crack a nut, which you seem to have either forgotten or never really known in the first place. It's all the same stuff (mostly) you get from a Marchand, and I'm not talking about caliber of skill but their "game management" as players. When either of them decides your day at work isn't going to be easy, they're going to get their way more often than not, either through skilled and physical play of their own (particularly defensively) or by being world class agitators. I guess it's up to you to figure out how much value that has to you, but as some food for thought, consider that the Capitals have thrashed the Bruins in recent history (Holtby plays a role, certainly) and Marchand has barely been a blip on the radar. Took him a pretty long time to find his guts, and had to do it with just enough time remaining to say it was "for the next game" and be certain he could leave with his teeth.

It's not hard to find a team full of guys willing to stand around and let their stars get punched in the face for fun.

It's a little harder to find a guy who would probably use his stick to pole vault the referees if he could to go beat the shit out of anyone brave enough to take the same liberty, and it's a whole hell of a lot harder to find a guy who is capable of using that hockey stick to actually play hockey the rest of the time. I swear it's like some of you forget how this sport is played and try to distill these discussions in to the equivalent of political talking points.

Oh, the good old "but look who was drafted after him! " argument.

Once a player gets drafted, draft position means nothing anymore. What counts is what the player will become. Once he gets drafted these two things have nothing in common anymore.

Also, I doubt the Caps would be a better team if they had Hertl or Teravainen instead. Wilson brings a side to this Caps team that was needed if the Caps wanted to win the Cup. They have other guys to rack up the points. Then again, this since last playoffs he's even doing that.

Yeah because it was the only way he contributed to help the Caps to win the Cup right...
