It's sad to see Hubie go but after the playoffs I was kind of expecting a trade. He looked like a regular season type of a player. Winning organizations need players who step up when others cannot produce. Matthew Tkatchuk might be a better version of Artturi Lehkonen and I like to have that type of players in the team. As a person Huberdeau is one of the nicest guys in the game. Therefore it hurts to see him go but I hope that he'll get a trade to Montreal at the TDL.

When it comes to Weegal. Well, he is like a musician in a heavy metal band. He could be good but also mess up things pretty badly. I don't like that type of players. In playoffs you don't lose games because a player doesn't pay attention to details.

This trade makes much more sense than the Giroux trade because now there is extension in place and because I see a need for this type of player. However, I am really worried about our draft pick situation. We need defensemen, cap space and have no picks. I am still very excited about the future. Next 5-6 seasons are going to be interesting.

You have to imagine Zito has more work ahead of him.

Replacing Weegar's minutes is no easy task and there isn't anyone on the roster that can do it. Forsling and Ekblad are a great starting point but Gudas is a BIG drop off from them. No chance this team touches ice with those as the top-3 defenders going into next season.

.......right?
my guess is that Bennett and Hörnqvist will be gone soon. Fla needs 2 d-men.

Straight up, Tkachuk is not better than Huberdeau, adding Weegar and a 1st makes this absolutely maddening.

Overall I’d say he or or definitely a more unique player and is 5 years younger.

Tkachuk is a powerforward that just scored 100

imo the Panthers paid Schwindth or that 1st round pick too much but in a year or two.. who cares.
The Panthers got better and younger, can't really complain.

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Denisenko
Tkachuk - Bennett - White
Balcers - Lundell - Reinhartt
Cousins - Luostarinen - Hornqvist

Forsling - Ekblad
Carlsson - Montour
Staal - Gudas
Tkachuk has to play with Barkov non stop.

As it is that’s a worse roster, all the quality depth is gone

First and main reaction is the sadness of losing my personal favorite all time Panther. We had a 2-3 year window of being a top 5 team and traded it for an 8 year window of being a top 10 team. Interesting gamble.

Huberdeau contract is going to age very, very poorly. And I expect it’s in MTL. But his next 2-3 years will continue to be elite

Losing Weegar is a disaster for this season. Most underrated guy on the team. Incredible transition defenseman and one of the best in the league at denying zone entries. Huge part of our team. That said, he’s somewhat replaceable next year when cap space opens

We’re a lot better from this deal starting as soon as the 23-24 season. Tkachuck and Weegar’s 7 million dollar replacement will be better, and for much longer, than Huberdeau and Weegar at ~$17M

But it’s still sad. Winning the cup in the next 5-10 years would make this worth it but Huberdeau not being center stage for it would feel wrong. Part of me would’ve been ok with signing the bad contract to have Huberdeau ride it out as a Panther and see 11 in the rafters and just live with the result

Thats great and all, but Florida has no 1sts for the next how many years? The time to win the cup was now. They're not getting any better for a while. Sure Weegar was probably gone, but if you can pay Tkachuk 9.5 you can pay the better Huberdeau 10.5.
no you can't because you don't pay more than what the C gets. Sasha accepted a deal that wasn't the highest one that he could have received.

We have like 13.1 mil coming off the books next year just from Hornqvist, Gudas, and a drop in deadcap.

Im not concerned about being worse next year, just make the right signings/trades at the right time. If something doesn’t open up right now? Fine, address it next offseason when we have tons of cap opening up. Be methodical, which thankfully zito seems to be. Yes he made the gamble last year when it seemed like it could possibly be our time. It didn’t work out, move on. Moves like these are the right choice.

My biggest concern is now Bennett.

I feel like he relied heavily on Huby.

Maybe Tkachuk Bennett Verhaeghe/Reino

Yep, but even more reason why I would drop him as the 3C.

I believe Lundell will/would be far more effective as 2C without Huberdeau.

Tkachuk- Barkov
Verhaeghe- Lundell- Reinhart.
Bennett- Duclair (when/if returns)

Duclair on ltir would allow Florida to sign Klingberg with Hornqvist gone and figure itvout mid season
Kling while not a monster defensively and should explode offensively on this roster

Duke on the LTIR doesn't help if he comes off from it before the playoffs.

Klingberg is looking for some $7milx6 deal which is unlikely to happen with the Cats since Weegar just got traded for that reason (or at least for the most part).

HOLY f***ING SHIT WHAT I JUST GOT HOME AND I'M DRUNK BUT HOLY SHIT I NEVER BBOSTP ON HERE DRUNK BUT WHAT THE FHELL

Your all caps posts are making my head hurt.

With Duclair going on LTIR and sjalin getting sent down, we’ll have 21 guys on the roster (which means only one extra depth guy, either a 13th forward or a 7th D) but we’ll be under the cap.

We could trade or buyout horn & trade montour and then sign klingberg and Staal :naughty:
Buyout window passed for Hornqvist I believe.

it doesn't work like that in sports. Icehockey is the game where luck plays the biggest role. In addition to that the team hadn't won anything, which means that it was inexperienced in playoffs. Hence, learning to win is a process and you can build a team that have a good chance to win the cup within few years but you cannot put up a team that is forced to win this season because some guys leave in summer. Pressure is too high and probabilities are against the team.

But I agree with you that after mistakes one needs to move on and this one was also in opinion the right choice.

i'm not able to read through such posts right now but how the cuk can you think this is a good trade. huberdeau tkahcuk is at best a lateral move and to do so you give up an AT WORKST 3D yet another first round pick and the one prospect i said speciically to not give up

I could definitely see Knight+Duclair+Horny for Chychrun. I know there'd be rioting but it would fix the defense and get Florida cap complaint. Bob answered a lot of questions in the playoffs.
I say keep Duclair. You need him for the run, right? Get AZ to retain on Chychrun instead. Chychrun at 2.3aav with Hornqvist at 5.3 out the door solves a lot of problems with the cap and the blueline. AZ is likely to want more than just Knight, though.

I’m a Yotes fan. And I’m infamously stupid. Especially when it comes to how much I hate giving up assets for goalies. But I’m also completely convinced AZ’s actually GM (not a dummy like me) is hellbent on adding a goalie of the future.

If you wanna go all in, then lose Huberdeau for nothing after another playoff run. If you wanna recoup assets, trade him for futures. Just don't overpay to bring in Tkachuk for that contract.

That’s a world class bad take

Duke does nothing for us in the playoffs. He's good as gone at this point. They have to let him go because Zito used up all of the remaining cap space and didn't leave any room for Duke to return before the playoffs.

No cap space for Duke so hes gotta go when he comes back in January anyways. He would be a nice piece for Ari to flip at the tdl
