If you've watched a lot of our games then I'm surprised you're forgetting Lundell. Also not completely on board with the view that Huber is a line driver. He's not consistent and he cheats defensively big time. I don't say that as a knock on him because I think that's how he's asked to play. But the points are a bit deceiving. Even looking at how many points he gets at 5v5 vs all other scenarios relative to other top players will knock him down a few pegs in some minds.

No idea what the lines will be like, but not worried about the forward set at all. May not be as high octane, but will be more well rounded. Losing March is the big loss in my mind.

And i don't get how you think paying a 30 year old huber more than a 24 year old tkachuk makes any sense...

Yes worried about defence for next year, but year after that will have cap room to fix. Next year needed to bea retool year if this team wants to seriously compete for more than just one more year.
Huberdeau can carry a line offensively at least. Yea he's a liability in his own end but lets not act like Tkachuk is a shutdown winger either. With Barkov there they could have him shut guys down (and score) and let the "2nd" line be all offence.

I haven't forgotten about Lundell, he's a fantastic player. But is he ready to carry a line in the top 6? I feel like he almost needs to be now, unless Reinhart is supposed to do it. I love Bennett but he's not that guy.

The Huberdeau contract won't age well for sure, but I think Tkachuk is one of the most overrated players in the league. So for a team in win-now mode you take the better player in Huberdeau and worry about his down years later.

Thats great and all, but Florida has no 1sts for the next how many years? The time to win the cup was now. They're not getting any better for a while. Sure Weegar was probably gone, but if you can pay Tkachuk 9.5 you can pay the better Huberdeau 10.5. And if you want to burn futures then use some to dump boat anchor Bob and ride the cheap young Knight.

I do get what you're saying. But this makes 0 sense to me, a team thats traded this many futures should be all in.

I watched probably 40 Panthers games this year but sure
I don't really know what you're arguing, you would prefer 30 year old Huberdeau at 10 million till he's 38 than 24 year old Tkachuk at 9 till he's 32? That's just not a good take no offense. Weegar is Ottawa bound. I agree trading so many futures for a lower tier playoff team is unfortunate but this is a good trade overall. Very mixed feelings for me but I definitely don't think Florida got fleeced or even lost this trade.

Love the trade. We haven’t won with Huby as one of our big 3. We certainly won’t win with him as one of our big 3 and making 10 mil a year. He puts up points but that’s about it. Weegar, every man and his dog on the message board has been kicking him lately, most of you should be happy he’s gone. I like him but very easily he would be walking away in a year unless we overpaid now. Prospect doesn’t matter, but wish we didn’t have to give up the pick.

In return we get a core piece locked up for years to come. I’m all in for it.

If you wanna go all in, then lose Huberdeau for nothing after another playoff run. If you wanna recoup assets, trade him for futures. Just don't overpay to bring in Tkachuk for that contract.

Plus Tkachuk will retain his trade value even if the Cats decide six year from now that they need to depart from him.

I could definitely see Knight+Duclair+Horny for Chychrun. I know there'd be rioting but it would fix the defense and get Florida cap complaint. Bob answered a lot of questions in the playoffs.

Not having Knight or Levi after having both would be such a Florida thing lol.

That being said, goalies can be bought.

I don't know man. I need a smoke lol

Knight isn't getting moved because then they wouldn't even have a backup for the next season. Guzda or Lyon aren't capable options.

Lundell and Knight are off the table.

Oh boy..

Love Huberdeau. Will really miss him. Wont miss him @ 10M x 8 years.
Weegar. Thank god we didnt sign him long term at 6-7M

Thachuk love the kid. Steep price. If Zito knew he wont be able to resign the two for reasonable price its a good trade

Giving up another 1rst round pick?! That is very very concerning and it's too late for that. Hopefully we just havent given up 4 x top 5 picks. Those are some valuable assests Zito giving away. Are any of them even top 10 protected etc

If you think Huber can carry his own top line... Well you'll see what happens next year. I'd bet my house he doesn't have a year anything close you this year. I like him, but I know what he is having watched him for 10 years. He's not going to drive a top line consistently, that's just not him.

No Lundell is not ready to be a 2C consistently yet, but he will be soon. Like I said, next year it's a re-tool. We weren't going to win anything significant with the roster how it was set up, and I'm really glad Zito realized that.

If you think Tkachuk is overrated then of course you'll think this deal is bad for Florida. I also think you're overeating Huberdeau so.... Let's just say we're both right and I'd still rather pay less for the younger overrated player?

My biggest concern is now Bennett.

I feel like he relied heavily on Huby.

Maybe Tkachuk Bennett Verhaeghe/Reino
Flames fans wanted tkachuk-Bennett for the longest time together. Wonder if Florida will give it a try.

I will admit I’m hyped from a Calgary perspective, but tkachuk is a damned fine top line lw.

I do have a question about Weegar; is he better on the left or right?

Y'all are saying they won't move either Lundell or Knight but who saw this coming. I know Florida technically doesn't need to make a trade but they're not going into the season with that defense and no extra players. CBJ had to give up a 30 goal scorer for nothing to clear cap, what assets does Florida have left that's not Lundell or Knight? I'm expecting another bombshell trade.

I don't think it matters a whole lot for Weegar which side he plays. The bigger issue is who's going to be his d-partner.
Weegar is the best piece in that trade. Trade Huby at the TDL for Suzuki and you won this trade in value.

Right. He's a good player and I'm disappointed he's gone. He might be wanting Jones/Nurse money.

He makes some blunders, but he's overall a really good defenseman. Because his blunders really stand out, there was quite the negative backlash on this board. However, he is more of a net positive than a net negative.
