Like others have said, I think Huby gets more than $10 million on his next contract. And Weegs probably gets around $6 million or more on his. And I think Zito would rather eventually pony up for Bobby Forsling instead.

I just love how Zito manages. He doesn't just think about the immediate term or just the long term. He thinks about things in probabilities and time value. Manages the team like an asset manager. Take his shots when the odds are in his favor, like this past year at the TDL, but also knows when to cut his losses and focus on reloading again.

No not all the moves will work out, but there's a logic to it and a well thought out process.

Having a cost controlled player like tkachuk through his prime and not signing big contracts to aging huber/weegar? That's amazing longer term. Like I've said before, next year should bea re-tool. I was thinking we need to recoup some draft and prospect capital, but tkatchuk is better. He's like having the re-tool accelerated.

The chances that any high end prospect becomes a tkachuk are small, even for a top 10 pick. And even then it can take a few years. So a signed tkachuk in his prime is basically worth more than 4 picks in the 5-10 range and maybe more than a couple top-3 picks. Ask yourself if an aging huber/weegar that may not sign with us, and two middling prospects are worth that. I think the answer is yes.

This is a cap compliant team (400k under the cap) but no extra skaters for an entire year, and getting bent over when it's time to move Duclair? Can't see it. There's another trade going down 100%.

imo they aren't going to contend with Lundell being only 20yo. They need him to be a grown man when they compete for the cup. This is more about Lundell+Knight+other rookies than Barkov imo.

Tallon wasted the Huberdeau-era and this is just the clean up operation by Zito.

Tkachuk
Balcers
Bennett
Cousins
Lomberg
Hornqvist (something may happen now with him I’d imagine)

That’s half the team. Hopefully we’ll be a headache to play against. We needed a guy like tkachuk, surprised calgary took the risk. I guess they figure even if they don’t re-sign they’ll just trade both for picks and prospects at the deadline. Either way, I think it’s a smart longterm move for us and brings an element we need. Didn’t want to wrap up 19-20per in a Barkov-Huberdeau duo. Love how zito isn’t afraid to make moves like this

I think barkov will still be a key piece but it'll be like how stamkos is with the lightning. An older still good player, but it's the younger guys driving the bus.

I say we're still a playoff team as is, then when Lundell/Knight get better and the cap situation improves, our cup window opens up again.

Brass thinks MT is a top 5 player in the league over the next 5 years. Could Huby and his exotic car collection be that? Sure, but the people signing the checks wanted 11 out and have for a while.

you're saying ownership had some say in this? i don't like the smell of that at all.

Yea, Barkov is still the top dog but I don't think that we can expect him to be the sole guy leading this squad in the playoffs. They need multiple guys with top leadership abilities.

Also, how about those cajones on Zito. Most GMs would've just stuck with status quo on an aging core, then go :huh:when they can't really compete for the cup.

A team needs good YOUNG players to compete and drive the bus. I'm glad Zito understands this.

I was resigned to the fact we'd have an ok team with an aging core for the next decade, but now I'm all excited again.

Why is there a Bruins fan here laugh reacting everything? Weird way to spend free time.

I mean why not? I'm laugh reacting when I should have gone to sleep an hour ago....
