Tkachuk is better than Huby ainec. But it's a massive haul for CGY.
In the upcoming years I can see him becoming the better player, but now? Huberdeau has outproduced him for the past 4 years by a clear margin.

Tkachuk before this season has never been a PPG player, his highest total before being 77 points.

Huberdeau has been on a 90+ point pace since 2018.

We not only traded for a worse player, but one that had an even more significant outlier year than the one we gave him up for.

I already discussed this in another thread... Huby might score a nice amount of points but he's not a significant factor in whether the Panthers win or lose any given game. He's not a difference maker.

Holy f***!!

I think you all know how I've felt about extending huberdeau... And about getting tkachuk.

I'm speechless right now. Thank you Zito.

We're going to need to figure out d without weegar, but they'll figure it out.

f*** yes. Haven't been this excited since we signed Q.

Huby wasn’t going to resign for less than 10. Get out of here anyone defending him. He is what he is - a softie that can rack up points on Tuesday nights in December. I was a fan of Weegs, but in some lines of work you make that mistake in Game 2 and you aren’t around for Game 3.
Tkachuk isn't known for being much of a postseason performer either..

We may be worse for next year because no weegar, but having a 24 year old new mould power forward at a really good contract through his prime?? How are you guys not more excited??

Tkachuk at this contract way better than Huberdeau. Weegar was going to get priced out anyways. Schwindt is a good prospect but likely a solid middle six guy, 1st round pick in the 20's....meh.

Yes I'm kind of worried about our prospect pool and lack of draft capital but we just got one of the best young players in the game for the next 9 years!!

You have to imagine Zito has more work ahead of him.

Replacing Weegar's minutes is no easy task and there isn't anyone on the roster that can do it. Forsling and Ekblad are a great starting point but Gudas is a BIG drop off from them. No chance this team touches ice with those as the top-3 defenders going into next season.

.......right?

I got a weird feeling Klingberg is joining this team.

imo the Panthers paid Schwindth or that 1st round pick too much but in a year or two.. who cares.
The Panthers got better and younger, can't really complain.

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Denisenko
Tkachuk - Bennett - White
Balcers - Lundell - Reinhartt
Cousins - Luostarinen - Hornqvist

Forsling - Ekblad
Carlsson - Montour
Staal - Gudas

That D needs work imo, hopefully Zito has been working on another deal.

Weegs likely looking for Nurse/Jones money after getting Norris votes.

Points ain't everything. Tkachuk is a complete player that has a better 200-foot game and plays a way tougher/grittier style than Huberdeau. Something this team has been lacking from their star players. I and many others have said just that for a verrrry long time.

Tkachuk finally brings an element of tenacity and grit that this team desperately needs in the playoffs. He's going to be a fan favorite almost immediately and we'll all soon forget about Huberdeau in no time.
