Tkachuk is listed as LW/RW on CapFriendly and didn’t he play with Gaudreau a lot during the season and he’s a LW? Maybe we see him on the right side and they keep Verhaeghe with Barkov as well:

Look, it's not likely that any of our prospects (excl. Lundell and Knight) will play for the Panthers regularly. Under the Panthers draft&develop-model, they provide the best value for the Panthers by getting traded. That's the reality of the situation.

I'm not expecting them to amount to anything if we used them.

I'm scared we become a cellar team again and those picks turn into top picks.

I mean seriously. Our defense has to be the worse in the league

Y'all are saying they won't move either Lundell or Knight but who saw this coming. I know Florida technically doesn't need to make a trade but they're not going into the season with that defense and no extra players. CBJ had to give up a 30 goal scorer for nothing to clear cap, what assets does Florida have left that's not Lundell or Knight? I'm expecting another bombshell trade.

Maybe, but Zito also hasn't shown any inclination to giving up top tier prospects. He's fine trading the lower tier assets, but I don't think Lundell or Knight go anywhere. They are what I'd consider golden assets. Anything else is up for grabs.

No he isn’t.
We had TJ Brodie. I get a lot of senses with that regarding Weegar, so I can take it overall even if I’ll have to throw my remote at times.

He played RW this past season. Second team all star for it.

Let's get Chychrun now!

Hornqvist + Duke + all of the Panthers' 2nd round picks in 2023-2026?

Yup. Like, Schwindt might be a NHLer someday considering his point totals with the Checkers but is he better than Balcers who we just picked up for nothing? I don't think so.

I don't see how one of Bennett or Reino can offload Horny and and get Florida a top 4 defenseman, because that's what needs to get done.

You could maybe do say Bennett and Duclair for a mid-tier defenseman but I really think Zito is going to go all in here.

Don't look at Facebook if you want to keep your brain cells. I saw someone saying they should have traded Barkov instead of Huby.

99% of people are also awful at managing their own assets. Go figure.

Checking in on the main board thread reminds me why I don't usually bother...

My issue atm is Florida (as is) is going to be a low tier playoff team. Right? Their defense is terrible. Like this trade is good but makes them worse next year, which is why I'm expecting the other shoe to drop.

The tweet's not a fair representation of the situation but Florida has mortgaged too much to finish 7th in the East this year.

Maybe. I could see the team sending horny with a prospect and/or 2nd rounder if need be. It can be done.

I'd also not be super surprised if we roll with what we have. Theoretically good enough to get to TDL. Then reassess at that time. If team is in contention, then bring in help. If not, then do nothing.

Just remember the regular season team only needs to be good enough to be in contention until TDL. Then make a decision on playoffs.

Lightning fan coming here in peace.

I like the balls of Zito. Not easy to trade a franchise guy like Huberdeau. But i easily like Tkachuk > Huby for the future, assuming he was demanding a similar contract to what MT just got.

But replacing Weegar is going to be TOUGH. Not sure if he's your whipping boy or not for the blunders he has, but I'm an analytics guy and he's a darling for that. So do you think Zito is going to just go into the season with what he has on defense and pretty much punt the season and use the cap space ya'll will have next year to get the replacement?

Who cares if we finish 1st or 8th in the division. Just get into playoffs. This team just needs experience. We aren't competing for the cup yet, but the young guys need playoff games so we don't have the same problem as with our previous/still sort of current core.

And we can always add in season. Team will look different by the end of the year.

Too bad kadri is looking for stupid money. He’ll turn 32 right before opening day, I’d trade reinhart’s 6.5per and sign kadri for 4yrs at 6.5per but someone will probably pay up even more. 8+ on a shorter term deal? Someone may, but he’d be great to have here.

Safe to say Zito had little faith in contract negotiations with these two.

Huberdeau will want 8x10+ as a 30 year old.

Weegar will want 7-9M with term as a 29 year old.

We absolutely gave up a lot. but we got cost controlled 80-100 point player who is 24-ish.

We traded two near-30 year old UFAs coming off career years for a 24 year old who just put up 100 points.
Yes we paid a lot.

This is how you extend a contention window.
Yeah I can undestand this longterm for Florida but that price with their cap situation is tough to figure out.

Even I wasn’t a fan of Weegar and extending him they can’t start the season with that blueline but the F for longterm

In 22-23
Barkov 27
Tkachuk 24
Lundell 21
Reinhart 27
Verhaeghe 27

Edit,
But what I’m worried about is how will he not drive into cap hell without having a 1st round pick for 4 straight years.
Where’s he going to get the cheap quality players?
