Tkachuk traded to Florida

Duke does nothing for us in the playoffs. He's good as gone at this point. They have to let him go because Zito used up all of the remaining cap space and didn't leave any room for Duke to return before the playoffs.
My bad. I thought he had just one bad playoffs for you. Forgot it was two.

Duclair seems like a bad fit for an AZ deal because he’s got trade value but no value to AZ. The Yotes aren’t likely to see him as an asset. And Zito likely does. Right?

imo the Panthers paid Schwindth or that 1st round pick too much but in a year or two.. who cares.
The Panthers got better and younger, can't really complain.

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Denisenko
Tkachuk - Bennett - White
Balcers - Lundell - Reinhartt
Cousins - Luostarinen - Hornqvist

Forsling - Ekblad
Carlsson - Montour
Staal - Gudas
that lineupi sh hideous. tkachuk doesn't drive a line. bennett is bottom 6er without huberdeau. the defense is bottom 10 in the league. zito STUPID

I say keep Duclair. You need him for the run, right? Get AZ to retain on Chychrun instead. Chychrun at 2.3aav with Hornqvist at 5.3 out the door solves a lot of problems with the cap and the blueline. AZ is likely to want more than just Knight, though.

I’m a Yotes fan. And I’m infamously stupid. Especially when it comes to how much I hate giving up assets for goalies. But I’m also completely convinced AZ’s actually GM (not a dummy like me) is hellbent on adding a goalie of the future.

Duke on the LTIR doesn't help if he comes off from it before the playoffs.

Klingberg is looking for some $7milx6 deal which is unlikely to happen with the Cats since Weegar just got traded for that reason (or at least for the most part).

Your all caps posts are making my head hurt.

I know but Zito would have months to figure it out while having replaced Weegar for less

We have like 13.1 mil coming off the books next year just from Hornqvist, Gudas, and a drop in deadcap.

Im not concerned about being worse next year, just make the right signings/trades at the right time. If something doesn’t open up right now? Fine, address it next offseason when we have tons of cap opening up. Be methodical, which thankfully zito seems to be. Yes he made the gamble last year when it seemed like it could possibly be our time. It didn’t work out, move on. Moves like these are the right choice.

Honestly 23 and forward looks great for Florida.

Lot of cap dropping out, no Hubs extension, no Weegar extension.
The core in place Zito will have lot of room to add depth

I don't think the gap is as big as people want to make it out be. Tkachuk is a rare player, and you have him guaranteed for 8 years. That's what bridges the gap.

Let's also clarify his 'ceiling'. Is it 104? Hmm.. It wouldn't surprise me to see him in the triple digits again if he finds chemistry. Tkachuk is an EXTREMELY high-iQ player. He will rarely dazzle you with sick plays, or do some dipsy-doodles around defenders - that's not his game. He is just really damn good all over the ice. You will see what I mean as you watch him. Your first reaction will be: "He looks awkward out there. Did he learn to skate this year?". LoL Yeah, don't let that fool you - he is great on the forecheck. It is his off-the-charts IQ.

If you go to his hockeydb page, you will notice he hit 77pts before. That wasn't with Gaudreau and Lindholm. That was with Backlund and Frolik. They were one of the best 2-way lines in the NHL. They were tasked to go head-to-head against the best lines in the NHL, and they were a plus line that year. Backlund is criminally underrated, and players often have career years with him, but make no mistake - Tkachuk was a huge part of that line. Let this sink in - Backlund is always tasked to go head-to-head against the league's top lines, and 18 year old Tkachuk was beside him. He played head to head against McDavid, Crosby, Huberdeau probably (LoL). I noticed lots of posters on the main board saying: "Tkachuk sucks defensively". Ha!

Yes, Darryl Sutter's system was perfect for Calgary's top line last year. However, Tkachuk was a huge part of that. Darryl demands 2-way play - that line was crazy good head to head against everyone, and Darryl didn't shelter them much at all. Tkachuk is good defensively. He is amazing in front of the net and in the corners. He is a gifted playmaker (doesn't make it graceful, but boy has he been part of many amazing plays).

He LOOKS like a player without skill, and then the puck somehow finds the back of the net. His between-the-legs shot is surprisingly effective too. He literally does it all for your team all over the ice.

You may feel ripped-off right now, but there is a reason why he was traded for a ransom. Zito may look like he has a bit of egg on his face tonight, but this time next season this trade should be a lot more fair (well, hopefully Calgary can re-sign those two, or find good value in a future trade). We will miss Tkachuk in Calgary - helluva player. I am glad that he is out east - I am sure I would have grown to hate him as he is so damn good at generating hate. He is going to have a long and exceptional career - put him with the right line-mates, and he will be comfortably above a PPG. He is that skilled. Last season was not a fluke (look up his highlights).

Oh, and him and Bennett are really tight. Was Tkachuk's best friend in Calgary apparently (I still miss Bennett).

Good luck!

I both like the trade and hate it. We do need a player like Tkachuk on the team. But at the same time the price we payed was way too steep. With two big players, plus a prospect and another first rounder. I would have been perfectly fine if it was Huby+Hornqvist in that deal. Now we need a Weegar replacement in place as well.

We had that kind of a player in Marchment but unfortunately Zito let him go. Tkachuk was obviously acquired to fill this void and be an overall upgrade, going from ~50-70pts to +90pts.

I love Tkachuk's game, he just knows how to play the game especially in the playoffs, like Marchment did. ppl might get sour on him if he's not scoring +100pts on a regular basis but a +40 goal scoring 2way pest is a unique player no matter how you'd look at the trade.

Hopefully you guys get something good for Huby and Weegs at the trade deadline.

Insane deal! Wow, not sure what to think. Hate it and love it lol. We gave quite a haul but both huby and weegs may just bolt after a year anyway (which would soften the blow for sure) while we get the younger player and locked up long term. Zito is a wild man, hope it all pans out!

Huby & Weegar were good players for us, but I think they did the dumbest plays almost every game.
Hubys random passing to nobody and Weegars defensive warts.
Weegar had 1 point in 10 playoff games and Huby had 5.
I think Tkatchuk is the best player here and much younger, but why did we have to give up that 1st rounder aswell?

My issue atm is Florida (as is) is going to be a low tier playoff team. Right? Their defense is terrible. Like this trade is good but makes them worse next year, which is why I'm expecting the other shoe to drop.

The tweet's not a fair representation of the situation but Florida has mortgaged too much to finish 7th in the East this year.

I've never seen a GM throw around 1st round picks so recklessly. That scares me. It also gives us no leverage to pull off trades for years with picks

Y'all are saying they won't move either Lundell or Knight but who saw this coming. I know Florida technically doesn't need to make a trade but they're not going into the season with that defense and no extra players. CBJ had to give up a 30 goal scorer for nothing to clear cap, what assets does Florida have left that's not Lundell or Knight? I'm expecting another bombshell trade.

I'm not going to say I saw it coming, but I'm not that surprised either. Huberdeau was always a higher possibility of getting traded than Lundell or Knight.

Now, WAIT a minute. EIGHT (8) years of Tkachuk for TWO years of Huberdeau-Weegar COMBINED...Hubbeegar scoring six points in 20 playoff games...

...laughing all the way to the bank...the NHL should reverse this steal.

Wooow that trade was might requested, or the singing was there that he will not resign with the Cats. Otherwise tradeing a Point Per Career player is rare. But yes PO and Cat and Huberdeau might not work well.

But that trade hit me, Weegar, Huberdeau, Cole Schmidt and a 1st for Tkaachuk to Panthers is he willed to sign here what does he get??
wooow Tkachuk gets 9,5 Million a Season a 8 year contract okay thats heavy.

But for an Outside view from over the Ocean, was the Situation with Huberdeau and Panthers that worse or maybe like mention the sign, i will not re-sign here.

So we switch a leading assist Player for a leadin scorer and Points.
But a Contract that give him a life time opportunity.

Wow holy f***. I just woke up to this news. I mean my initial reaction is we did this because we have an average goalie that gets paid $10M a year. We sacrificed some good players to continue to pay that guy.

I believed in selling high on huberdeau but weegar could’ve been like a good #3-4 defenseman for us.

Wow. Zito has balls. At first I didn't like it, but Tkachuk is 5 years younger, and signed, that extends our window by a few years. That's why I dont mind giving up the pick either.

The thing is, idk how we are gonna ice a competent D this season. Zito MUST have another trade up his sleeve. Schwindt was one of the last prospects I had wanted to give up, too. But it's still a solid trade
