Hörnqvist would be useful for Seattle because it's a new team that needs to build chemistry. Veteran players help in that. However, he earns too much. Not useful for some teams that have cap space and no cap space where he would be needed.

Zito must have a plan because he was willing to trade Hubie's relatively modest cap hit away. Panthers need to get rid of Horny or Bob.
I don't see either moving because they would have been already. The cost is too high/they've exercised their NTC rights. I think it's gonna be Bennett or Reino. Maybe Verhaeghe, but with his playoff heroics that's doubtful.

Haha Zitos got a couple girlfriends?
Did you throw a party last night?

Need some help on defense now though.

You thinking Huby goes home to Habs in a year? or you never want to think about him again?
I don't like Schwindt and 1st being added, feel one of those could have be kept but I like that we got meaner and MT's deal buys all his prime years.

No, no... that thing is entirely between Zito and @Gentle Man .

True, Zito needs to get another LD. Staal has been playing circa 20mins per game but I don't think we'll get high quality +20mins out of him anymore.

Huby was playing for the Florida lifestyle and next paycheck. Some say that his 6-8 year contract will look horrible in three years or so... imo he'll look bad as soon as the next season when he's not on a high octane offense team anymore.

I think CGY will have a good 1st half of the next season but they'll fall to the ground eventually, leading Trev selling Hubs and Weegs for the highest bidder at the TDL.

Schwindt and 1st was added to the deal because Huby and Weegar didn't have much value because they'll get signed to big contracts and thus their impact/$$$-value goes way down. CGY might just have Schwindt and a 1st left from this deal if they hold on to Huby and Weegs beyond the TDL and they end up not signing there.

It will be interesting to see how all 3 players perform in their new environments. Spotlight will be on Hubey and Weegar now that they're playing in Canada, can't hide mistakes as well.

Tkachuck being the nuisance in front of the net is something we desperately need for years

Sorry the mentality Horny and Giroux showed in PO, showed the Organisation whats missing.
Horny doing the right thing for this Team and alone for what he showing on Ice, earns him to stay.

I guess since Thornton who had the same kind of Mentality on Ice and Bench. Yes he earns 4,5 Million but he was one of the rare Player who showed a way of Game you awaite in the PO.

Lomberg - Luostarinen - Cousins

Forsling - Ekblad

Defense is very weak but I can get behind the grit and toughness added. We shall see how it comes together on the ice and if any young guys will break into the lineup.

Bennett I was initially thinking before I heard that he is friends with Tkatchuk.

I would keep Bennett for his intangibles and borderline play in the playoffs. Him and Tkachuk should add more pest with skill in the playoffs

Bottom 6 is worrisome and so is defense
Nah I feel we are more solid and more balanced on the forward side of things. I don't worry about our bottom 6 as I feel we finally brought in players capable of playing those roles. Defense however just took a nosedive to the worse, yes. We are sorely lacking 2 top4 D-men right now...with no money to spend. Unless more people are getting moved. This year is gonna be a throwaway season, we could still make it into the POs which I think should be considered a good building block season. New steps made and build upon that for the next season when Hornqvist money comes off.

I don't think Zito cares about that. Huby and Barky were friends for 8 years lol. I would trade whichever one you can. Nashville, Dallas, Anaheim, Seattle all have cap space I think and are looking to make moves.

Bennett for a 2nd+prospect
or
Reino for a 1st

Sign Subban for 1M

Sign Heinen for 1.5 M

Swaggy-Barky-Balcers
Chucky-Reino/Bennett-Heinen
Cousins-Lundell-White
Lombo-Luosty-Horny
Staal/Hepo

Fors-Ek
Gudas-Montour
Carlsson/Staal-Subban

And we have more cap space for when Duke returns

Interestingly enough out of all the players in the current roster, only 4 (Barkov, Lundell, Ekblad, and Knight), were drafted by the Panthers.
Tallon is having seizures right now lol

I’ve been out for a while. Been dealing with a new job, and just got Covid for the first time.

I don’t mind this trade, just don’t like giving up another 1st.

I’m done with Weegar. I was done with him for a while now. Yes he’s good, but he’s not as good as he thinks he is, or what he could be pricing himself at. He has been a problem negotiating with since being drafted, and doubt he would have given us a discount.

Huby I love, but he’s a pending UFA, and while coming off a career year, he was dead quiet in the playoffs. Seeing what Gaudreau just signed for, I’m not comfortable given Huby that many years at his age.

We simply could not go into the season with two valuable, pending UFAs. No way do we land a Tkatchuk for those two by the deadline. Tkatchuk brings a facet of the game that we were lacking in the top six. And he’s locked in now for 8 years. Most of our core is between the ages of 20 to 26. We might not be at the top of the contenders list, but Zito will have some financial freedom to improve the team over the next few off seasons.

Now Calgary could end up signing them long term, or moving them at the deadline, but in the end, I expect Huby to be a Hab next summer, and Weegar a Senator. And then, even with the assets Calgary could get back if they trade them by the deadline, will make this trade look even better.

Zito doesn't seem to care for drafting, he'll just buy who he wants lol
I don't think that's necessarily true. If you watch his interviews around draft time, he gets really excited. He's just more an out of the box thinker GM than we've ever had.

I’m still bummed about losing Huby but I’ve gotta think the contract negotiations were way off. Zito did mention Huby’s contract was a priority this summer, but if he thinks they won’t see eye to eye then it’s better to trade him now instead of next summer.
Yeah if Huby was stuck on 10M, and Weegs like 6.5+, then there's no doubt we had to make this trade.

It’s only 3-0 who cares
My only concern is zito has tossed our future and potential prospect pool out the window. Literally no first round draft picks for years.
I’m not worried. Zito has a clear vision and plan. He is trying to maximize our best ever win window and going for it. If it doesn’t pan out then we’ll become a dump ground and weaponize contracts to recoup like a billion picks and go full rebuild. What’s the worst that could happen? We suck for a couple of years? Lol

Only mildly worried because cheap ELC's are really useful, but if we're like drafting out of the top 10 anyways, it's kind of a crap shoot and those guys are usually years away from being real contributors.

Think of the coming year as a retool, but our compete window opens the next when cap situation improves. We're still essentially in win now mode, just with a pause.

Those first round picks ain’t shit. Tallon had many cracks and didn’t get Jack other than the gimmes. We still have Mackie, Sourdif, Ludvig, and Nause. While very thin, these guys can at least be difference makers in some capacity. Zito is banking on them. We’ll survive.

This looks to me like a team that will be much more mature, experienced, and focused on team defense.
