No, no... that thing is entirely between Zito and @Gentle Man .

True, Zito needs to get another LD. Staal has been playing circa 20mins per game but I don't think we'll get high quality +20mins out of him anymore.

Huby was playing for the Florida lifestyle and next paycheck. Some say that his 6-8 year contract will look horrible in three years or so... imo he'll look bad as soon as the next season when he's not on a high octane offense team anymore.

I think CGY will have a good 1st half of the next season but they'll fall to the ground eventually, leading Trev selling Hubs and Weegs for the highest bidder at the TDL.

Schwindt and 1st was added to the deal because Huby and Weegar didn't have much value because they'll get signed to big contracts and thus their impact/$$$-value goes way down. CGY might just have Schwindt and a 1st left from this deal if they hold on to Huby and Weegs beyond the TDL and they end up not signing there.
Good insight, wondering if Bennett is gonna be kept longer than say Reinhart?

Reinhart could net a solid Top 4 D who could be re-signed or they may have to hope one of the many LD prospects finally take off?

Our drafting and scouting will be putting in work to find some mid round gems from now on but I like how Zito operates so far, he isn't scared of big change

I’ve learned a lot recently.
— Zito is super focused on not creating bad contracts with aging players
— Bolts stars will be looking over their shoulders more than ever before
— Zito didn’t want to even start the contract talks with Hubie and Weegs because the starting positions would have been millions and years apart
— I don’t always go out drinking, but if I do, it’s gotta be with kerrabria

There were lot of rumours of Panthers and Weegar talking extension around draft& start of free agency

Dallas signed Colin Miller and will have to re-sign Roberston. They don’t have the money.
Nashville just added McDonagh.

He’s not going to a rebuilding team.
Zito has to have a plan, they can’t enter the next season with any kind of plans with that Dcore.

Remember when Tallon wouldn’t trade Borgstrom for McDonagh?

This is my opinion too. Last season was terrible for contract point of view. Great regular season but bad playoffs. After 115 points it doesn't make sense for Panthers to try to sign him because he wouldn't sign a bad contract but the organization also doesn't want to offer what he might get elsewhere (at some point there was rumors about or even in FLA if the team had done well in the playoffs. So it would have been a stressful season without an extension for a key player. There is no way that Panthers would have paid him more than what Barkov earns in any situation.

Difficult to say at this point. If one of our many current AHLer LDs graduate to top4 level then they could let both Forsling and Montour walk to free agency and focus only on acquiring another RD which in turn would leave enough dough to re-sign Reinhart. Bennett is the easier type of a player to acquire from the marketplace than Reinhart.

The Panthers' roster in a better spot to contend in the future than it was with Huberdeau and Weegar but only under the premise that they'll fix their LD situation. Montour can probably absorb some of the minutes left by Weegar but he'd need an above average LD partner. But then again, I'm not expecting a whole lot from this upcoming season since they are handicapped by Yandle's cap hit and this is Maurice's first season with the Cats.

Happy with that Zito was able to move on from Huby, most GMs probably would've been too scared to do so. The thing I'm mildly worried is that they are hemorrhaging assets in the process. It's good to be a buyer but Zito has to be more prudent about his purchases. Tkachuck + 20 games with G and Chariot for Huby + Weegar + three 1st round picks + 4th round pick + Tippett + Schwindt + Smilanic.

Geez, when I look at our current roster, it just doesn't feel right. Bobroskvy is now the third longest tenured Panther. Our entire roster minus our 1C and 1D has turned over in three years.

Dallas doesn't need 11 m for robertson. Maybe Klingberg signs there for more than he signs for here? Maybe he likes the direction Anaheim is heading? They were aggressive this summer...great base of youth there. JG signed in Columbus....

As for your last sentence, I certainly hope so. I understand and like the trade, but we could be in for an interesting season if thats our D.

I have a hard time seeing how this trade makes us a better team next year. Seems to me that Zito just closed the book on everything Dale Tallon built and is now building for a new era.

The Barkov and Tkachuk contracts just started. Knight and Lundell are still on their ELCs. Forsling is due for an 8 year extension next offseason, and then there's still Ekblad. I have a very strong feeling that Zito see these guys as the new core for his brand new era.

Might as well, the last core didn't win shit

I don't think Zito has a set of names in his mind that corresponds to a vaguely defined 'core' group. imo it's all about impact/$$$. Like, if some player who is compensated at an above average level performs long enough at a below average level then he's on his way out of the org. Rough deal but results count in this biz. For an instance, that 3.2 PP% in the playoffs was part of the reason why Bruno and Huby aren't with the Panthers anymore.

Panthers will be adding a Dman

I will make it happen guys

Thank god Gudbranson is off from the market.

The biggest trade in franchise history and the the biggest since Bure! I have to say I love it Zito is a wicked genius. Huberdeau was a great player but more style than substance where it counted. I wish him well. Mathew is a giant truck and without a shadow of a doubt will be the fan favorite on the team. Guy hits, fights, shoots, passes, does it all and provides leadership. He has the "winners heart" so to speak that so many wanted to see from Hubie. Im not in the locker room so I cant say but I would venture to think that he wants the winning attitude that Huberdeau seemingly lacks. Considering the contractual aspects of age, fit and term. This is a no brainer. I would never have imagined this coming to be but I am so glad it happened truly a genius move from Zito. Huberdeau - Barkov dazzled the league for years and brought us out of our seats. But wait till you see what a Barkov - Tkachuk duo will bring us.

Tkachuk has never been the best player on his line, stretching back to before his draft season. I’m not sure if he’s a top-50 player in the league, and has a history of disappearing acts in the playoffs. He needs to score nearly 100 points a season just to justify his contract; this trade is mind-blowing and I really hope it doesn’t destroy what the Panthers had going.

Just curious, why is contract italicized? And thanks for stopping by.
