Klingberg is gonna get 7+, I don't see it. And we don't have the picks to dump Horny, especially now. It's gonna have to be a trade, but not one involving Horny.

What good team is giving him 7?

He overplayed his hand by a country mile.

If this continues I could easily see him want to sign a short deal with Florida to try to run up his price again.
He’s played on one of the worst scoring teams so score 50 points and hit the market when it’s more like back to normal

I know but Zito would have months to figure it out while having replaced Weegar for less

Honestly 23 and forward looks great for Florida.

Lot of cap dropping out, no Hubs extension, no Weegar extension.
The core in place Zito will have lot of room to add depth
And the BOB contract becomes a lot more manageable. What's the FA market in 23 looking like for D????

It is the right thing to do. Tkachuk is younger and suited for the playoffs. Bolts probably know we did this move because of them..

Remember the Callahan for St. Louis trade worked quite well.

Huberdeau is very good but when teams start to lock us down I gladly take Tkachuk who is younger and annoying as f***

Also everybody knew what Hubs was trying to do on pp.

He was never a scoring threat at pp and it really hurt Florida down the line

There’s nothing to explain. This is different from the cap hit which is still 9.5., they’re just gonna pay him mostly signing bonuses instead.

GR says he’s guaranteed the signing bonus rather than the salary if there’s a lockout or if he’s bought out

Even if that were true(Anaheim, Nashville, Dallas still have cap space), we don't have the picks to dump Horny.

Dallas signed Colin Miller and will have to re-sign Roberston. They don’t have the money.
Nashville just added McDonagh.

He’s not going to a rebuilding team.
Zito has to have a plan, they can’t enter the next season with any kind of plans with that Dcore

I like this. This core was done after bloodpath against Tampa this year. Huby played fantastic year besides playoffs but he isn't getting faster anymore. Weegar was occasionally really bad as we all know.

Barkov, Ekblad, Tkachuk, Lundell, Knight. + Reinhart, Forsling, Verhaege. That's not a bad core to build a winning team. And we have time, the best days of this core are in the future

Any of the D prospects we have ready to step up into a 5th or 6th Dman role? Nause, Bennett or Ludvig? Hope so!
Csnt be worser than our current D

As good as Weegar has been offensively! Defensively he has been out of position way too often!

True, I'm scared of us being bad around 2030, and with Barky, Ek, Chucky, Lundell, Knight, Fors all hopefully still around, we won't be bad enough to get top 3 picks. But if we win a Cup, I won't care I guess.
There are a lot of years to come of being good. The window just opened.. 2030 is a long time away.

After sleeping on this, I'm much less upset about it. This is a very ballsy move, but a good one looking long-term. Have to assume the contract negotiations with Huby weren't going well.

That said, we've now locked up one hell of a forward core for a very long time.

Barkov, Ek, Bennett, Reino are 26. MT is 24, Lundell is 20, Knight is 21.

I'm guessing the likely forward lines next season look frightening (for other teams)

Tkachuck-Barkov-Verhaeghe
Reinhart-Bennett-Duclair
White-Lundell-Balcers
Hornqvist-Eetu-Cousins

And that's without Levtchi coming in from Finland. At least taking Duke's spot for the interim.

Flames fan here. I’m not going to analyze the trade other than to say I can see the logic on both sides. I’m here to give you my impression of Tkachuk as a Flames fan who did not like him and I’ve wanted to see him gone for a couple years.

First he’s a weasel as is widely known. You’re going to find out now how big of a weasel he is. If you like that kind of player you’ll love Matty. If you don’t at some point you’re going to find him to be an embarrassment.

Don’t worry about his skating. It’s not elite but it’s more than adequate, especially since his hockey IQ is for the most part good.

His defensive game is strong. Backlund really helped him develop that being his centre for a few years.

His offensive game is good, but not as great as many think. His 104 point season last year was a product of playing with Gaudreau, Lindholm and Sutter’s coaching. He’s going to need to really click with Barkov or he’s a 60-80 point guy otherwise.

He’s not a playoff player. There‘s certainly the potential for him to develop into one if he changes his attitude.

There’s a misconception around the league he’s a physical player and that he drags his team into the battle. I don’t see him as either. He punks the other team, and when the other team gets to the point they want to push his nose into his face he turtles and his teammates have to stand up for him. It got to the point in Calgary that they quit standing up for him. There‘s been several documented and rumored stories about that.

He’s been called a top 10 winger in the league. He’s not. More like top 20 with the potential to become a top 10 if he gets his stuff together.

He’s not a team player. He’s a selfish prima Donna who doesn’t mesh well with a lot of teammates. I’m not sure if he can change that.

Take my comments as you will. I started off loving him but grew to really dislike him.

What’s the word on what the panthers are going to do to get under the cap? Personal opinion I think you guys are in for a dog fight this year in the Atlantic and then take off next as that yandle buyout comes off the books.
