Confirmed with Link: TJ Brodie to TOR | 4 years 5M per

Easily better then our current D

Rielly = McCabe
Brodie = Kaberle
Muzzin = Colaiacovo
White = Holl
Finger = Sandin/Liljegren
Kubina = Lehtonen

You could argue McCabe is qual or better then Rielly all around.
Kaberle again I would take over Brodie any day of the week, guy was one of the best passing defenders in the league with solid defense.
Muzzin and Colaiacovo are both pretty close in value and what they offer.
White and Holl same situation, that leaves us Finger & Kubina two solid players at the time over Sandin & Lehtonen....two guys that have no experience playing in the NHL.

I will do you the courtesy of saying, 'thank you for your opinion', and will leave it at that. Enjoy your day.

Vancouver let Tanev walk because well let's look at there defensive core and depth....he was expandable
It's just to prove a point that you could say when any UFA leaves 'the team knew something' when it's often times the player's decision.

Vancouver also has a looming cap crunch to consider.

Based on interviews I've read leading into the bubble it was tough for Brodie to leave his family and I'm sure it was a major factor that Toronto was close to home.

Let’s at least wait until we are playing games on the ice to bitch and moan as well as praise it the best since sliced bread.

Truth is, we don’t know yet.
We needed a D desperately, good start and I hope we pull another one in as well.
Then build a hard to play 3rd line after that.

You do realize we haven't added anything atm, we technically lost a player.

Kapanen out - who's in?
Clifford out - Simmons
Barrie - Brodie

I've lost all faith in our management group and that's upsetting because I was really excited too see them keep building this team threw the draft, something we haven't done in how long? Only to cut it short in year 3

Now were left with a mediocre defense core & goalie, hoping we get lucky one year...and were already on year 3-of-5 without one playoff series win.

I'm solidly behind the idea of waiting to see what happens. But, since I'm here, I'll occasionally throw out an idea or two that I believe in. As I asked a question to which you responded, might you care to offer an answer to that question...I'm not trying to be goad you into a response, I'm just curious as to what people think. I can't see a better top 4, have I missed something?

Hold up if this is the best D core we've had the past two years remind me why were basically last in all D stats? And our offense is top-3.

Reality is all Kyle did was replace Barrie with Brodie...now everyone thinks we have the best D core the last 20x years....haha okay

Another perpetual the sky is falling type? Great.

Campbell is out? Really... do you mean Clifford? Not sure who is on, or not on the team?

A real shame isn't it, now that free agency is over, and the trade deadline has gone, we can't make anymore changes....

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

Sounds like we have a cry for attention here. I wasn't a fan of the signing initially, butI'vecome around to this since Dubas said he wasn't done adding to the D, and it will be someone with grit.

No so far I think the Kaberle/McCabe days were better.
Yushkevich/Markov etc.

Never get excited about a lineup until you see them play.

Kaberle - Komisarek
Phaneuf - Beauchemin
Gunnarsson. - Schenn

looked great on paper

Omg so sorry my phone spell checked and changed the name, I will go change it asap....thanks mom!

The defense mix that people are discussing hasn't played a game yet, so I'm not sure what stats you're looking at. If you mean last year's group, we had the best defensive stats under this core last year.

We have the same D core as last year. Just replace Barrie with Brodie...also we might end up losing Dermott & Ceci's done

We don't have the same defense core as last year. Brodie is a better fit and a better player than Barrie was at least last year. Lehtonen is on absolute fire in the KHL and will likely be replacing Ceci. We're unlikely to lose Dermott; they're talking about him as if he's in their plans. The defense is also unlikely to be as decimated as it was last year from injuries, and we have better depth if it is. And the defensive results last year weren't even bad, despite those injuries.

Lehtonen who was one of if not the best defenceman in the khl says hi..

Losing Ceci is addition by subtraction he was awful. We know this. Brodie is MUCH better defensively than Barrie and a good transition player.

Like it's Day 2 of free agency and you are already declaring the year a failure? You come off as a leaf troll not a fan.

None of that fits your anti Dubas agenda though so I'm sure it'll be ignored.

Sandin and Liljegren are young and you hope they take a step.

I'm curious how you would have rebuilt the defence in one offseason?

Didn't we say the same thing about Zaitzev?

Only a true fan would accept it for what it's worth and that's a crap job....nothing against Kyle as a person but he should be running our draft not the team.

I went to many live games lastyear Ceci was not the problem he was one of our all around most effective D regardless of what you're analytics tell you.

Its day two of free agency and our teams already hit the max cap...with 2 guys left too sign on defense and one upfront.

At this point the only way to save our D is too trade Tavares for depth and picks or a elite young defseman....but our management is too stubborn to admit where they facked up. We would have 11M too play with could sign Pietrangelo for a few and some depth on center plus you're guy Brodie.

But instead they will end up moving one of the young Elites and opening another hole in our roster...same old

It was goaltending that killed us.

And this year will certainly be a waste / 1st round elimination if we go with Freddy.

Ceci is better defensively than TJ, Ceci took all the tough matchups.

Didn't we say the same thing about Zaitzev?

Yes, and he performed.

The expectation for Lehtonen is that he is at best a #4, and that is going to be ahead of two other guys who could also stake a claim of being #4's in Dermott and Holl. He's not going to have to be a top pairing guy. He's not even going to have to be a 2nd pairing guy necessarily. Bottom pairing is not a high bar to clear, and given his KHL accomplishments, he looks more likely to clear that bar than anyone else at his cap number.

Did Kyle just sign a 30year old left defseman for 5M x 4years??

We need RD....again, confused.

Rielly-
Muzzin-Holl
Brodie-

With no cap space and still one roster spot left too fill on offense, epic fail!

Brodie plays the right side. He has has been playing Giordano for years. He is very good.
