poor lily..in 2 games hes played with 2 partners with a combined total of 15 AHL games, sandin gets harpur and marincin, who arent world beaters, but clearly have an edge in AHL/NHL experience.
sandin has been more noticeable, but hes also been put in a better position to succeed imo. lily has looked good to me. especially given the circumstances.

Some players that show higher potential, etc will usually be given better opportunity, its a short camp and teams need to get ready for the regular season. Lily will have another season in the AHL and be better next summer and have a better opportunity,

they are different players, i personally think lily is more advanced defensively and given his ELC status should be given equal opportunity to show he can perform at the NHL level. but its clear that sandin has a leg up at this point.

ye because babs never plays favorites right?
i dont hate babs like alot here but he tends to form a quick first impression of a player and stick to it no matter what. theres plenty of players in the league that have said as much.
im just stating facts about his partners and saying he should be given equal opportunity.

IMO, Lily competition would be more Marincin, Sandin is kinda a level above Lily, he has much bigger skillset/toolbox than Lily does

one could look at is as a rielly vs dermott thing play-style wise.
my point is only that lily should be put in a better position to succeed here if hes part of the future. given what dubas and keefe etc have said about him, hes certainly not done anything not to warrant one..at least imo

Keefe said Lilly should have been a healthy scratch before he suffered an injury last season, he was that bad ... Dubas claimed Lily was about to be called up to steal a spot on the Leafs but he got injured ... Dubas says dumb stuff sometimes ... Lily needs another season in the AHL and develops his d'zone game more, he doesnt have Sandins skill set

you have an article for this? or some source? keefe also had huge praise for him late in the season and during the playoffs.

I'm not here to do research for you lol, i will chat though ;)
well if you are stating something as fact im pretty sure the onus is on you to back it up, imagine a lawyer that tries to use that argument in court after making a statement lol.

anyways im not here to argue with people, its clear lily is more polarizing than most.
all im saying is it my personal belief that he needs to be put in a better situation to truly see what he is capable of at this level. throwing him in with a ECHL guy and another guy who hasnt played in NA in 2 years wont accomplish that. i actually prefer sandin as a prospect and do think his ceiling is higher, but there are differences in their situations which are favouring sandin this camp so far.

If you're uninformed that's your problem and not mine ... :)

Leafs management gets together before camp and has there board meetings and decides who are the legit threats to win spots and who isn't, that's kind of how pro camps work ... Liljgren obviously wasn't considered a threat to win a spot, he will be next season and he will get a good partner/TOI/etc

im not sure how im "uninformed" given you have 0 evidence that its actually true.
we're done here. have a good weekend

My thought is that its camp, so they are putting him in tough situations to see what he can do, whereas sandin is being sheltered and allowed to develop and build more confidence.
Partnering lily with scrubs makes him the focal point and forces him to carry the pairing.
That said I feel lily has a good defensive game and I like his board work and creativity defensively. I still think he has another gear offensively, but has reigned it in as per instruction from the coaching staff.
Just my two cents.

while he doesn’t have the statistical piece, he has taken such a large step in his ability to defend. His ability to take on big minutes. Play against the other teams best players, and he’s played on our top pair this year through the playoffs in very difficult matchups, and has handled it extremely well.

Has this just come on recently?
“Absolutely, LIljegren didn’t have a great start to the year, and he had his own injury problems. The high ankle sprain really set him back a number of weeks. Through that time, I’m not sure if it was the additional time in the gym, or the time with the skilled coaches, or just the time away from the daily grind in the daily schedule, when he came back from that injury, he had gotten better every time out. I think he’s playing his best hockey for us right now. That really helped us turn the corner. It was like adding a defenceman to our lineup that was really able to take on these minutes. We were giving him these minutes early in the season, but it wasn’t going as well, and it was hurting our team, but he has really stabilized his game, and taken very big steps, and our team has benefited from it.
This is all the evidence that you need. I know people will say, Keefe won't criticize a player in the media, but if you listen to him during his time with the Marlies, he has no problem being critical of young players. He did it to Nylander, Kapanen, Brooks to give a few examples. When Keefe is giving praise to a player, it's because he means it.

Of come on, they’re all facing so so competition, plenty of opportunity to stand out....you’re positing it like the poor kid is being buried.

He’s looked fine, not sure why we need excuses.

My favourite posters are the Sandin v. Liljegren posters. FYI for the burner account gang. We have Sandin + Liljegren.

One of our prospects being superior to another one of our prospects doesn't diminish the lesser prospect.
If Sandin has passed Liljegren as a prospect, people somehow take that as Liljegren being a major disappointment. It could never be that Sandin has just exceeded expectations. It's almost like we have two good, and different, prospects that we can be excited about. This internal Timmy v. Rasmus war is insane.

Although we shouldn't be surprised, in the past it was Willy v. Mitch, currently there is also Woll v. Scott (to a lesser degree) etc. We can't have more than one nice thing at a time. Can't talk up one prospect without putting another down.

Yeah, like the Marner brigade still does.
