Listening to this today, it’s like he already knows he has no real shot to break with the team:

I'm not hearing "it’s like he already knows he has no real shot to break with the team" anywhere in that clip, personally.
Not so much this. Sounds more like they have a plan in place for the most part for the young dmen that they're all aware of. Sounds to me as if there is good communication amongst the team.

How'd he look tonight? I understand he had a garbage partner so that may have hindered him.
Overall, solid but could be a bit better. He isn't on the same level we saw with the Marlies yet, but again Rubins is an AHL player so that does affect him.
I think his defensive game was good again, but as a player there is another level.
He looked steady and reliable. I'm still surprised how well he has come along defensively.

I just watched his morning skate video, and I don't see anywhere where he said he is going to the Marlies.
He literally said he wants to make the opening night roster, but if he doesn't, he will go to the Marlies and be an injury call up.
There is nothing odd about what he said.

The thing with guys like Liljegren is that they should get a spot not because they looked fine and rather solid in the limited chance they got. Someone like him should get that spot when he shows he can play the full register of his game. Liljegren is someone who can kill space, win pucks, move it out effortlessly and creatively, and help create offense.

He doesn't look like he's there right now, based on these two games.

All the Sandin talk is overshadowing Lilly, which has been quietly solid. He played as well as Sandin.

Liljegren looked ok, better than the first game. But, for me when i watch Liljegren, he makes one bad play than makes a good play on a shift to shift basis. For example he forced a pass under presssure in his own zone and turned the puck over right on the tape of a Sabre player, Sabre's regained the zone and Liljegren made a very good 6-8 foot pass behind his own net to relieve a ton of pressure/break the Sabres cycle up and fueled the exit of the zone. All of that happened in 20 seconds, some good , some bad. I am rooting for Liljegren based on the feel of person I think he is, a humble guy who wants to make the NHL.

Agreed with this.

Didn't like his game too much tonight to be honest, a very neutral night. I think he's one of the first call-ups (since his ELC is starting this year anyways), but might be better for one more season in the AHL.

He passed it to his partner, and his partner passed it back to him... slowly, and all he could do to not turn it over completely for a breakaway was send it up the ice. It resulted in a turnover, but that was a horrible pass from his partner.

How did you come to that conclusion? Sometimes these on the spot interviews can catch a lad off guard, but I don't think he tipped his ugly hat one way or another!

He seems pretty accepting about going back to the Marlies in that interview
I think I know what you mean, but, again,on the spot like that ,he probably didn't want to say too much. It would be easy to say the wrong thing ,given all the competition for the open spot(s)how could he know what Babs is thinking?.I wasn't expecting him to give off a "I think I'll make the big club" vibe. I think he rode the fence there with Henny baiting him.

I liked his first game and thought tonight was a bit rough for his pairing. I don't know how much of that their struggles were on Rubins but more needs to be done to earn a spot. Pair him with Sandin and see what happens next time
