Are you asking yourself if you watch the games? Explains a lot to be fair.
Watch the game over again and it is crystal clear. The defensive errors are simple and extremely obvious. I was surprised by the comment because any grade 4 atom player could see it very easily.

What was Liljegren doing last night? Brutal game. Did u see his pass off the boards to set up one goal, he has no idea about angles or something. Keefe has tried to turn Liljegren into a shutdown D man to salvage something. His draft stock dropped because of suspect IQ and its showing itself. If Liljegren can just control his gap and not handle pucks to much, maybe he can hang in the NHL.
Your suspect iq is showing itself if you don’t think Liljegren will be able to hang in the nhl one day.

I caught part of the game tonight and thought Lily looked really poised, calm, and efficient in his own zone. On a couple of plays he just took the puck from the forecheckers, either found a smart short pass (good support from forwards) or turned back and avoided forecheckers. Unfortunately the team lost, but I think he’s developing quite nicely since last year!

I still don't understand why you are particularly skeptical of him in the first place. He's done very well for a junior-aged player in the AHL.
He is up and down like a toilet seat. I suspect no one else on here has been to as many live games as I have for Marlies, Leafs and Growlers. Last night he was very good. Sandin was weak. These are just kids who sh*t da bed many nights. And they both should play at least 1 more year in the minors to develop their games. When you go from being one of worst on ice Saturday night to one of best on ice last night it just highlights the massive inconsistency.
What I have noticed is when Sandin is off like last night the team follows suit. Lily played pretty well last night but he can't open up the game and create like Sandin. So there was no offensive being created from the backend. Rosen is solid and he is ready to play in the NHL as a #6. Marchment and Moore too.

They are kids learning to play one of the hardest positions in the NHL, many times playing against men. Liljegren had a great come back night and was one of the only D men to not be -3. He was even. I agree that another full year would be best in the AHL to grow physically and mentally. I have done some capfriendly armchair GM and if we could snag both Pesce and Savard I would try to sign Hainsey to a 1 year deal to play on our third pairing (where he should have been all along).

I'm not as high on him as some but I think he'll be a solid 2nd pairing guy. That said, I kind of wish he went to the OHL, I'm not sure those who are down on him would be so down on him if he was producing against 16-20 year olds instead of playing solidly but not putting up big numbers against men. For instance, if he was in the OHL, I think he'd produce at a rate where you wouldn't see people saying Durzi > Liljegren because you'd see he can produce at a similar level against young men/boys at a year younger.

Although I really like the growth I’ve seen in his game, the OHL definitely could have been a good opportunity to develop his offensive game.
Last year, I thought Lilly looked like a beast at the World Juniors playing against people his age. I think he would have dominated this year and changed a lot of opinions if it weren’t for his ankle sprain. Nothing against Durzi, but he didn’t really get much hype until the trade happened and didn’t seem to be significantly outperforming his previous year. I wonder if Dubas offered Lilly plus a small add for Muzzin, definitely not the same package replacing Durzi with Lilly.

If he got drafted by a decent OHL organization I would have been fine. I didn’t want him in an organization where nepotism led to the owners sons being GM and head coach. If I can avoid sending my1st round pick to that, I will.

I think he is improving which is what you want to see at this point. He still seems like he is another full AHL season away from playing in the NHL though. I also think Sandin needs 1 more year.

Am I out to lunch here? Liljegren as a "solid" top 4 D would be an unqualified win.

I agree, but when I say that I'm talking about what his potential/ceiling is (imo). There are some that still think he's got legitimate top pairing, high end offensive potential that I don't really see.

He's getting the Rielly treatment. The offense will come, but he's got the reins on right now.

Lily will be fine. In practice in straight line drills he beats Sandin regularly. There is nothing wrong with his straight away speed it is very good. His issue is his balance. He needs to improve on it. His centre of core is not quite right yet. And it is why he goes over easily. Whereas Sandin is unbelievable on his edges. He can turn in a phone booth. It is why when you watch him when the other teams try to knock him out of the game they never do. He can withstand the hit and maintain the puck.

Both will be very good but they both need another year in minors. Rushing them up because the Leafs have screwed up their defense is not the answer. It will hurt them in the long run.

You’re probably right but the leafs cap situation might force them to promote Rosen plus one other d man to the NHL next season.

Liljegren is the top RHD in the system. It’s between him and a Justin Holl.

I honestly didn't have an issue with this comment but I laughed out loud when I seen eye test liked jt. It was punny.
