He is much more physical and much better offensively than Franson could ever dream to be.
I agree but he's also -143 in his NHL career so far including a -41 last year.

Now I hate +/- but even when Dion was miscast as a #1 and played with guys like Holzer and Kostka the worst he ever got to was -11.

He's absolutely horrendous with his decision making and even as guys like Dahlin improve I don't think it would be enough to cover up how bad he is in his own end.

That is this specific fans opinion. He'll never not be used as a top-4 defenseman with high minute totals in real life.

Hopefully not on this team. That specific fans opinion is shared by many, including myself. He hit the nail right on the head. Do not want him, for free.

What was Liljegren doing last night? Brutal game. Did u see his pass off the boards to set up one goal, he has no idea about angles or something. Keefe has tried to turn Liljegren into a shutdown D man to salvage something. His draft stock dropped because of suspect IQ and its showing itself. If Liljegren can just control his gap and not handle pucks to much, maybe he can hang in the NHL.

His partner was worse than he was last game...Rosen

I really like how this kid is developing.

All the draft talk had me thinking he would be a one-direction wonder but he looks like he will be a solid two way player that is good in all situations.

Liljegren is one of those cases where I simply don't understand how scouts think. I don't know how many times I've read scouting reports mentioning his choppy strides and how his skating is a problem, and I don't get it. Not because I don't agree. But to me, those things indicate potential improvements in their skating. What determines if it's a problem is if they can pivot well, can be mobile enough to take away space and play a high pressure game, quick enough to be able to support offense while recovering defensively. And Liljegren can do all these things.

I very much agree. I've been quite vocal on here with my critiques on his skating but the reality of it is the fact that he doesn't have awful feet and his form getting corrected just makes his potential that much better, I mean, it's alright vastly improved. We drafted him as a raw prospect and were seeing how a player develops and improves and now he's becoming an exciting player for the Leafs. Were lucky to have him and I can't wait to see how he plays the rest of these playoffs and in camp next season.

Lilly is not a shutdown D. He never has been. This narrative is just flat out wrong. His greatest skill is his skating and ability to use his speed to get out of trouble in his own end. Last game it is easy to mention his defensive short comings. He still does not understand the board angles with a 10 foot smaller rink. He still does not know how much room/time he has to make the outlet especially under pressure. His balance on his feet is Kadri like when both with Marlies. He got caught a few times losing his man between himself and net. His hands are ok but not 1st rounder material. It is why he was -4 on game. But most of these issues are correctable and he will likely improve significantly next season with Marlies.

Rosen was responsible for most of those goals against.

That's why plus-minus is an unreliable stat.

Not true at all. Complete opposite is true. Rosen 1 goal all his fault. 2 goals all Lilly's fault. 1 goal combo of 2.
Do you even watch the games? 2 goals Lily turns puck over to Checkers and in both cases skates up ice and lets his man get between him and net. and his man scores. A good solid defensive defender after he gives it away at least doubles down on his own man. The goal Rosen loses his balance and gives puck away in front of net for a 2 on 1 on Lilly while nothing he could really do about that one. And last goal was empty netter but he fell over and lost his balance again as a Checker beat him at blue line for a tap in goal. I would have expected him to take the man with a body check. Again that is what a solid defensive defender would do every time. These mistakes can be corrected but it will take time to teach him how to play pro defense on an NHL sized rink.

Are you asking yourself if you watch the games? Explains a lot to be fair.
