I loved Jay as a player, a real fun tough guy to watch. I didn't know he was so eloquent - this video is must viewing for any hockey fan, not just Leaf supporters. He f*****g nails it.
So, let me get his thought process straight.
He thought it was an unfortunate accident.
He had to watch it multiple times to know it looked worse than he initially thought.
He expects Leafs players to know right away without replays, what took him multiple times to watch immediately.
That makes perfect sense.
Agree with the rest, but the initial reaction is just plain stupid.

The whole idea is if your teammate gets wasted like that, stick up for him immediately. Figure out later if it was "legal" or not.

No one is defending him... I have multiple times said he is a rat and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Sure, I guess jump him, or what? Then who on our team gets jumped after? You don't just attack guys unless you think there was a bad play that happened, which it sounds like at the moment they didn't.
People talking about Reaves doing something... I really don't want to see Lucic grabbing Marner the game after if Reaves grabbed Marchand.

I think you identify the problem with TOR in your emotional criticism of Marchand.
Why isn't Liljegren the dirty rat? Why isn't Marchand the one side-lined. If it was a trip then it's within the rules (a penalty), but it's not a suspendable offence.
Toronto has to be the one handing out the punishment not the other way around.
We as fans are starving for playoff success, and here we are talking about how great it might be to have several Lady Bing nominees.
I've seen the slow-motion replay many times now. Three things are true:
Marchand gets a stick in there causing a trip.
IMHO Liljegren didn't do enough to protect himself.
Toronto was on the recieving end of the punishment, and they've got to stop trying to conduct themselves with niceness.

This bothers me, like Keefe is just some passive observer in the whole thing. Did he even put Reaves out against Marchand once??? He can't tell the team to respond like coaches always do? I hate everything about his response.
They are still trying to win hockey games... and what would Reaves do besides probably take a dumb penalty or get scored on?

Winning the hockey game? This goes beyond winning a game or two. I would forfeit many games for the proper response. I bet you would feel different if it was AM getting taken out. Seems the league has let some rottenness seep into the game. Makar, Hughes others. Can't have your stars being cheapshotted. Bush league as Mario called it. Once we lost to the Habs and Blue Jackets it was firmly written on the wall that this team wasn't going to win with this group
