Liljegren can take his game to another level if he can fix one thing that i see is a big mistake by him. He will engage a player in front of the net which is great, but once that player is out of danger area, Liljegren will still shadow him and leave the net front or leave the slot open. He must know when to defend an area and when to shadow. His last game was one of his best, he felt confident calling for the puck, beaver tailing his stick and he got that pass behind the net and moved the puck quickly, Things like this stick out, he had a good read. Also he entered the zone on one rush and did the right thing, he rimmed it around the boards, put the brakes on and stayed near the blue line. Earlier in the year he takes that puck deep, makes a poor decision and a dangerous counter attack happens. If he keeps it simple like that, his compete level is great for this team. He does some really puzzling things at times that i question his thoughts but we will see.

I was immature about how I treated Luke Schenn on hockey boards. I came right out, after his first game and called him a bum. Bizarrely, I quite like the guy now, I admire a lot about him, and how he has hung in there. I would not mind if he played for us, at all at this point in time.

But Liljegren for me.... Was something else entirely.

I just loved the guy from day one. I saw his vast potential, right away. But its so much, it has to be released, one layer at a time I suippose.

I see Larry Robinson here, always have. I didn't want to jinx the poor Viking, at all. But there is Robinson potential here.

Do you trade that for a playoffs with Mark Giordano?

Well, lets just say, I am glad sometimes, I am not Kyle Dubas...

This kid can do it all. He can hurt opposing players along the board or in open ice, if he feels like it, he has a pass to die for. He can skate. He is very, very well liked by his fellow swedes.

We have a swede club going on, and let me tell you from my experience with swedes and aussies....

Having a sub culture, of swedes on an NHL hockey club?

Man we are very lucky...

Now we have a Swedish goalie? Lol, Dubas is a genius. He ain't goin anywhere, soon.

Man, we have a beautiful hockey team. Soooo much fun to watch.

Take it from an older Leaf fan, these are indeed good times. And the regular season, is MOST of the season, so, enjoy it. I sure am.

Is he Steve Yzerman, Jon Cooper smart? Well, I dunno. But he is a treat, and I want him around for the rest of my Leaf years.

Sure we could lose first round. Won't bother me at all have to say. Tampa, Florida and Toronto, should all be in a league of our own, with Colorado.

Total class organizations. Now.

Losing to any of those three? No shame in it.

I am watching the best Toronto Maple Leaf hockey team I have ever seen. And I am fully appreciative.

I mean Pierre Engval, anyone watching this guy? Gotta tell you, best defensive forward, I have ever seen in Leaf history and I see a 20 goal season in this guy. But the guy is just giraffing the opposition out there.

Our third line is just ridiculous to watch, I feel sorry for who they go up against.
I enjoyed this post so much I bookmarked it. I hope to look back on this after we win a cup. Loyal fans like this deserve it. Cheers

I've been finding this shadowing was happening for the last few months with all the D, coinciding with the struggles in goal. Seems like they were being told to pick up a guy and stick with him wherever he goes. Then it's constant bodies flashing in front of the net, making for easy screens, tips, deflections and bad bounces. Don't get me wrong. The goalies haven't been good but especially for Campbell, this has been a regular occurrence. This hasn't happened the last 2 games nearly as much allowing Kallgren to at least see pucks.

Who do you have higher him or sandin? I still prefer him over sandin but that maybe just me
I'd like to chime in - Lilly is higher.

Sandin for all his "offensive prowess" is an absolutely terrible skater. Little to no straight line speed and cannot pivot in his own zone. The Rasmus way has a ways to improve to be impactful night in and night out on both ends of the ice. However, I think he'll get there.

there's no need for the seemingly sarcastic quotation marks, Sandin's hockey sense is fantastic, obviously it has to be given his skating. He can see passes and chances develop before most players, including Liljegren. That's something that can't be taught, while skating can theoretically improve.

I have no problem with anyone taking Liljegren though.

Lily's breakout pass is significantly better than Sandin's. Sandin is a much more composed passer in the o-zone.

I'll argue that instinct can be sharpened with trust as much as skating can be improved by coaching when you're over 20. These guys have had power skating/edgework coaches their whole lives. The wheel won't be re-invented here.
