Absolutely not.

He has enough ES minutes to digest, and Keefe's even giving him a PK shift or two.

Easy does it.

We need defensive defencemen first, then when they reach that level, offensive opportunity follows...
i dont really think him getting a few shifts on the PP is going to tax him too much. its the least stressful minutes he would have in any given game.

Seeing him do well makes me so happy. The kid has put in so much time and effort in the AHL, battling through multiple serious injuries. I imagine it was frustrating during that time, especially with all the talk about how the Leafs were lacking on right side D.

Glad him and Sandin gel so well. Hopefully one day the two of them can evolve to be our top pair as the others age out a bit.

No doubt he would fit well with Sandin. People forget that he was paired with Dahlin in the international juniors when Sweden played and Liljegren was the defensive D of the two and made Dahlin look good. He brings a solid presence to the ice.

meh, agree to disagree :)

I will agree with you. I'd like to see
Sandin, Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander on PP1.
Bunting, Spezza, Ritchie, Rielly and Liljegren on PP2.
Rielly's passing and shot from the point aren't great but both from the half wall are so much better. 2 D on PP2 allows them to adjust to the player coming out of the box better too. And on top of that, Liljegren has a pretty booming shot.

i really wish lily would get an actual chance on the PP, maybe the leafs are developing him more as the all situations brody type dman, but i think hes got so much untapped potential offensively. its a shame they wont remove rielly from the PP and give the 2 young guys a look, and now that the pp is scoring it definitely wont change lol.

This. He could make a run for rookie of the year with PP time and more O-zone deployments.

This is true but selfishly for the Leafs it’s probably better to give the points to someone else until his next deal is signed.

Although I like the idea of two D on the second pp with him hammering from the point.

Why pp talk.
Let the kid just play until he is strong and confident. IMHO last night he was the 3rd best dman on Leafs, Reilly was 5th or 6th.

I wouldn't mind giving him a few pp shifts. He actually has a fairly heavy shot. He isn't quite as good as Sandin at getting his shots through traffic to the net but he was pretty good on the PP with the Marlies. Why not just see what he can do? A point shot on the PP has been a weakness of ours for a while now. It wouldn't hurt to try him out there and see of he can hammer a few home and give us another scoring option.

Went to the game last night, and all game I'm like "good play by Lily". Guy was frustrating the hell out of them, always in the right spot, and was making these small slick plays to move the puck the right way all night. He and Sandin were clearly the only pairing that didn't look like they were fighting the puck all night. Crazy how good they already look.

Also Liljegren going to the box: the linesman took him out of the scrum and brought him there. I'm assuming it wasn't shown on screen, but I heard/saw it on multiple places that it was a "rookie mistake" and uh, no.

Strong? if you go buy those photos this kid is jacked! Probably benches Sandin on off days! ;)

As a reward for very good play over the last few games maybe? To see what else this kid can do? Not suggesting he replace either Sandin or Rielly but to be paired with one or the other on the second unit. As the penalized player comes out of the box it would probably beneficial to have 2 D on the ice. Last night the second unit got a little caught up in their own end after the penalty expired. Spezza had to leave the defensive zone to allow Brodie to come on.

Yep. He was pencilled in as the 2nd overall pick the summer before 2017. Remember he was a popular projected draft pick by many when we thought we were gonna tank again.

I remember some here even saying we should trade our first in 2016 (before we won the lottery) and tank to get our franchise #1 D.

I was so pumped when I realized around pick 14 in 2017 that he was still not picked.

rielly is very dangerous off the rush, thats where he can use his greatest skills, since his shot is mediocre. on the PP he cant use anything that makes him a threat, its a big issue to me regardless of some recent success by the 1st unit.

So he wasn't irreparably ruined by having a couple months working hard with the Leafs development staff instead of getting a couple dozen games to clown the SHL?

A dozen games? Do you mean a full SHL season, rather than the 2 NHL games and twenty AHL games he played instead?

Yeah, his sitting out unnecessarily for 10 months hurt his development, and was a bad decision by management. Luckily he seems to have (at least partially) recovered and gotten back on track.

I think you need to do some research into how rigorous Leafs development program is. There's no luck involved here. Full credit to Liljegren for putting in the work and full credit to Leafs for helping him crack the NHL.

I wonder how much development they were doing while he was quarantined on another continent? Because that was the topic at hand, those 10 months of inactivity for Liljegren.

Got to agree with Havoc here. Tim's only pitfall aside from getting torched by Moore last night is that he's too small and we have Topi Niemela in the pipeline.
