The kid hasnt barely played over two seasons in the NHL and we expect him to be a All-Star.

We easily forget Luke Schenn first 3 seasons as a leaf?

Lilly isnt bad.....it would help if he had a consistant partner to play with. Seems like they like him with Gio and I'm sorry but Gio is done as a regular NHL player.

I always find it funny that Lilly and Willy always get called out ....but other players constantly get a pass....

Unless you’re packaging Liljegren for a bonafide top four defenseman still in his prime and can be re-signed there’s no need to rush on anything. Yes he’s struggled this season but we know he can and has played better than this. Keefe doesn’t do him any favours, Giordano as is now is an anchor to play with, and injury timing has certainly derailed him the past two seasons, but he still does bear responsibility for his own poor play and questionable decision making at times. He needs to stop panicking and forcing things and go back to the smooth puck mover we’ve seen hints of.

At worst we have a third pairing right handed defenseman who’s cheap and excels in a bottom pairing role and minutes. There’s still room for him to grow and we’ve seen that with a good defence partner (the 1st year Gio was here and could still play) he’s a capable supporter or at least can ride their coattails.

I always find it funny that Lilly and Willy always get called out ....but other players constantly get a pass....
Like Brodie, Gio, Bertuzzi, Sam, Marner, Reaves, Robertson, Tavares, Domi, Knies you mean? All you revealed is your own built in bias with your players, because every guy I’ve mentioned there has been loudly criticized here. Seems the same standard, except a small Lil nation minority get all defensive the moment you notice he’s playing poorly. My bad for noticing. Funny is right.

I’ll be the first to comment when he plays well. We need him.

He’s talking about coaches criticism I’m pretty sure which I agree with

Lilly wasn't perfect, but Brodie's best game this season comes with Lilly as his partner and it can't be a coincidence. Not a criticism on Rielly either. That pair wasn't working no matter how much Keefe kept playing them. In a way you don't want Rielly's suspension to be reduced, this way you get more run way for this new pairing. If this pair works and Lilly's game gets more stable(last 3 games he's showed signs of coming out of his rut), it could solve some issues.

Rielly - ?
Brodie - McCabe
Benoit - Liljegren

I'd be ok going into the playoffs. I would not be okay trading the 1st for Tanev, though. Get a physical Defensive D similar to Schenn for a mid-round pick and call it a day.

Looks like Liljegren is shaping up to get around 15-17 min in the playoffs. Hopefully, he heals up that ankle and that odd finger injury he might have.

I still believe in him and hope he signs around $3m x 4-5 years.

Don’t know if I’d go to Brodie and mccabe again they got torched in the playoffs against Florida id switch mccabe and lily if they continue to show they’re good together

Brodie looked pretty good but I thought Liljegren looked pretty bad last game. Hopefully he can snap out of it and start playing some solid hockey again!

Lilly is not yet a top 4 dman
He is put in that position by default
Needs to get stronger being pushed around in the corners and front of net

The Sportsnet post game noted that as well, in a game where everyone looked good he managed to look bad, every Blues highlight he was on the ice. He did make some good plays too though to be fair, but more and more he's trending to a bottom pair D man. Needs to figure it out quick.

This D would be better balanced with Durzi and Sandin and no Liljegren.

Why the heck did Dubas trade his own picks away. Should have sent Lou era Liljegren away for Muzzin. His IQ is too low to ever become a key player we can fully trust.

So Keefer called out all those players?

Only 4 games but quite a turnaround for Liljegren. Him and Brodie have formed a nice partnership and playing major mins along with the 2nd pair. Both pairs haven't been on for a GA yet. Liljegren also looks right at home playing on the top PP unit. However he also wasn't playing nearly as bad as some and the coach would make you to believe.
When Rielly comes back, you don't touch the 2 pairs. Rielly is playing really well so he should prop up another d man. That pair would be sheltered though.

I've never been the biggest Liljegren fan. But I'm not a hater, and am impressed with him the last few games. I put a lot of emphasis on ice time, since that's essentially a metric of how much the coach trusts you. Liljegren has been averaging under 20 all season, and has had some games as low as 13 or so. But his last 3 have been: 24:25, 22:24, 23:29.

Keep it up!

Lilly stepped up last year when Reilly was out with a injury. Give him minutes and he shows up.
Sure there is things to improve. But for cap hit of 1.4 mil and has only played in like 175 or so NHL games we are lucky to have him.

We had a pretty good defensive showing last year too in Reilly absence when we gave Lilly more minutes. But fans will complain about being soft or a bonehead play that happens to alot of defencemen in this league. What is he 6 feet and 190lbs?
