Rielly should be on the Left side when paired with Brodie. Brodie is stronger on his weak side than Rielly and has a much longer history of succeeding in that role.I know I've been part of the OG Lilly hype crew but tbh, he doesn't look too far out of place on the top pairing with Rielly so far. Ideally, you want Brodie there still but I think, for the time being, he and Rielly have been the least of our problems defensively. Sandin probably won't ever see top pairing with Rielly ever again but I think he's a good player with Lilly on the 3rd pair. Lalboosh is a solid addition too and I think if he was paired with a more defensive-minded defenseman, they would be quite successful. I think our ideal pairings are.
Brodie - Rielly
Muzzin - Laboosh
Sandin - Lilly
Dermott - Holl
He'll make mistakes, but so will any young player. Better he makes them now than in the playoffs.View attachment 513706
Passed Rielly for 1st on the team in defensman GSVA. Best offensive play driver for defenseman on the team (almost double Sandin, and double Rielly), and best defensive play driver, slightly ahead of Holl and Brodie.
The goals against have been unfortunate, but when he's on the ice the Leafs have been at their best overall. No way I take him out of the top-4 for anything at this point.

His mistakes have been what you see with rookies. He'll get better with experience. He'll make mistakes, but so will any young player. Better he makes them now than in the playoffs.
As he's developed he's shown an ability to handle a learning curve, defensively or offensively.
With Muzzin and Sandin out I would honestly give him a few games with a heavy workload while we play some weaker teams (PP2/PK duties and heavy 5 on 5 minutes) and just see what happens.

Yep. Unfortunately:
But we're talking about a guy who has been elite (yes elite) offensively, and top-pair quality defensively in like a half top-4 role in his rookie season based on xG. He makes mistakes, but it feels more like it's guys who say "gotcha" that point them out because they thought he was trash and don't want to be wrong, or simply don't like the fact he's not 6'5" and hitzz.
This is an insanely lofty comp and ill rightfully get blasted for it, but he's the first defenseman to remind me of Adam Fox since Adam Fox... who I honestly thought was a unicorn since his draft year. Stylistically, results-wise, etc. Im not saying he'll turn into Fox, but Liljegren even coming close to that would be insane. Even me, one of his biggest supporters am shocked at how good he's actually been this year. I had a #2 Ceiling, 3/4 realistic on the guy. He's trending towards being a #1 lol.

My biggest concern with him in the AHL was that he wouldn't be willing to develop nastiness in front of the net. Was way too lackadaisical at times and was only physical along the wall.Looks great as expected, love that he is incorporating a physical component, not surprised he's pulling more penalties either - he will figure it out
I'd still like to see him get the minutes Holl is getting right now. Get a few games in that 21-22 minute range.Put up another 57 xG% today which funny enough brought down his numbers lol. Keefe trusting him to protect a lead is nice too.
GSVA
Rielly 2.1
Sandin 1.6
Liljegren 1.4
Muzzin 1.1
Brodie 1.0
Holl 1.0
Dermott 0.3
Lyubushkin 0.0
It was strange that Ferraro did that....must be spending too much time with the Overdrive guys.It seemed a little odd that Ferraro kept pointing out Lilligrens mistakes last night.
He has been a little shaky the past few outings but really no more so than the rest of them.
Not sure who they are but I imagine Ray's opinion is his own.It was strange that Ferraro did that....must be spending too much time with the Overdrive guys.
Even looking at it through that basic lens, he's +6 on the seasonYou guys need to stop twisting numbers around. Advanced stats in hockey need to be taken with a grain of salt. It works in baseball because every play/pitch has a beginning and an end. Hockey is way too fluid and random.
when I look at Timothy on the ice, the pucks in the back of the net. Plain and simple. Expected goals whatever. The only thing I expect to see when he’s on the ice is a goal against. He loses battles in front of the net. To have him in the top 4 in the playoffs is a big mistake. Bottom pair fine, but in no way shape or form is he able to play top 4 right now. In the future, who knows, but not now. No way!
The Toronto TSN radio show he called in daily to for the last 6 years and now a few times a week. Not sure who they are but I imagine Ray's opinion is his own.
The only reason people aren't realizing how good he is is because he can't buy a save when he's on the ice. It's actually wild how garbage the goaltending has been with him on the ice.
