Liljegren pinned by two defenders and just kicks the puck to the open guy and boom leafs get it out. Kids confidence is growing, deserves to be in the lineup every night.

Yeah, personally that was the play of the night for me

He sort of lost position, remained calm, tied up 2 guys behind the net and used his stake to end the danger

He has excellent footwork, processes the game at a high level, and is naturally calm

Brilliant f***ing talent and the toolbox to go with it

He looks awesome, wow. Very impressed with Liljegren! He might actually be a second pairing D man. He shoots right on top of that.

To date he seems like a pretty serviceable young defenseman whose assertiveness went up a level with confidence. Was trying a lot of things, made extra little plays and took a little extra time under pressure. Kind of doesn’t handle the puck cleanly at times and there was a moment when he wandered down to pinch on the sidewall and then reversed it to an open point which seemed dangerous, but he had the mindset to doggedly chase down Pietrangelo who has the puck. Generally, there’s a lot to like. A lot.

For the life of me I don’t understand how someone can call themselves a Leafs fan and actively cheer for any of our players to fail, but it happens over and over again.

People forget that Liljegren spent most of his draft year as the consensus No.2 pick in the Draft until everything possible negative thing to happened to him.

Management was delirious that he dropped to 17 and we got him. I think he’s showing why he was rated so high for so long.

Imagine, giving a kid a chance to develop and he does….. who would have thunk it????

He played well tonight, definitely making me eat crow. Hopefully he can keep up the play.

I’m still not ready to accept top pairing but he’s serviceable as I said. He needs more games, he needs more time & for the love of God more ozone starts please!

Liljergren is better than Dermott

I still think Dermott is better defensively at this stage and he’s played well with Rielly both under Babcock and Keefe. There are still moments where Liljegren makes mistakes in his own zone but he showed tonight that he can react promptly if he does. But it’s nice to see all 3 kids playing well.

I was so happy when Timith fell to us in the first round…..
There was a time when Liljegren was considered a lock for the top 5 in his class. He still has potential, maybe not top of his class potential, but I still love the pick. I don't understand why people would be down on him. I guess developing at normal pace is beyond some fans.

can't believe I'm saying this but he looked like a future elite 2-way defenceman to me out there. We knew he had the tools but where did that toolbox come from? Playing with confidence and swagger we haven't seen previously (attitude lesson from the sandman?)

Going to be some bumps on the road against better teams but man what a showing. Our whole D-core looks transformed. They moved the puck with purpose, skill and intelligence all night and it generated an absurd amount of offence for us. He and Sandin are a big part of being able to execute that game plan. The poise they had under tight forechecking and the ability to not only survive it, but to turn it into really solid breakouts for us is crazy for guys their age.

Keefe and Dubas must be giddy after tonight. Holl, not so much. Lets hope he can keep it up.

I wouldn't read too much into the Vegas game, we all know that Lilly is an AHL All-Star.

But I'm very confident that he can follow up with similar performances against Tampa and the Bruins :-)

Any player comparables for him? Be great if we could get a Rasmus Andersson.
Uh, he is so far from Rasmus Andersson. His comparable would be somebody like Calle Rosen, a soft and timid defenceman on the bubble of NHL employment who can skate a bit with the puck if he gets it and has average to middling decision making skills. Of course if you read this thread he's some infinite ceiling defensive unicorn and the reason Marner and Matthews showed up for the first time last night against Vegas. He was plus 2 against a disinterested club who was missing half their forwards and despite playing with Matthews all night didn't manage a point. He's much closer to the KHL than the Norris trophy but don't let that ruin any fantasies you may have.

Oh look it's the guy who thinks we should hire Bowman and fire Dubas because "it would be nice to have a GM that puts winning about everything else".

Some young top D prospects take a bit of time to develop. Who knew? Oh right, lots of teams/fanbases. Nevermind. dumb question. Forget I asked.

Really enjoying watching young Timothy play.
The sad part, those of us who said that it takes time and it didn’t mean he was a bust, we’re somehow hating on the kid. He’s still young, his development is right where it should be and I’m glad the team didn’t ruin him by following the silliness expoused here when he clearly wasn’t quite ripe. Now we see the byproduct of patience. Good on him.
