Wait, what is going on, people think Dermott played terrible last night and needs to come out for Lily?

Dermott was excellent, covered for Sandin’s gaffs and lack of footspeed multiple times last night.

I think if Liljegren plays this season he will finish the season as a player as good as Dermott, next year we would have a player better than Dermott and the year after that he will solidify himself as a top4

Dermott is a good #4/5 guy but I don't think he will be more than that

Liljegren has a chance to have a solid game and really put the pressure on others. This is what they talked about internal competition so time to step up Liljegren.

Yup. And just imagine the field day the Liljegren haters will have. Right from the first little miscue.
Lets just hope he plays well. If he can play like in pre season, he'll be fine. At least he has a good safety blanket in Muzzin but he hasn't been great to start the year.

I have faith in Lily.

What I have little to no faith in is that his performance will be judged objectively.
his performance at the NHL level was judged objectively, he was garbage for the majority of his regular-season career so far (only 13 games but still he didn't show much to deserve a spot on the team)

He's got a clean slate this year and needs to capitalize. Holl having a rough start, now getting sick gives him a chance to earn Keefe's confidence and trust.

I haven't disliked his game, but I'm not expecting rookie to be good as he's getting used to a different speed.

I've liked some of his tendencies, which appear, to me, to be about defending and clearing the zone.

Let him makes some mistakes, let him get some confidence that every mistake isn't defining him.

Is anyone suggesting the Muzzin and Holl pairing has been flawless or even good the past 2 games. Is Holl going to get better at age 29?

Leafs aren't winning the Cup in the next 20 games.

I agree.

In general strokes, I notice that Lily - when he's in the lineup - is in simply to "replace" someone. When Sandin gets into the line-up, it's because he "deserving due to his play".

Just a very odd dynamic. Sandin can do no wrong, and Lily has the opposite issue.

Liljegren needs to play the best hockey of his career in this stretch. With Holl struggling massively in pre-season and now out of the gate, as well as a couple minor injuries, he has a chance to force his way onto the team permanently.

Muzzin struggling could be another opportunity. If Liljegren suddenly elevates Muzzin, that will only magnify Holl's weak play.
