To be fair, Sandin's skating does need work but his IQ is so good, it doesn't matter.
Honestly, even if his skating doesn't take that next step, if he can become like a poor man's Adam Fox, I'm ecstatic.

But those reverse hits he makes and his general feistiness show that there may be something more to his game. It's rather give him some NHL seasoning as opposed to yo-yo ing him between the two leagues.

All Dman makes mistakes every game, it is how they recover and play over all.

Lilly did well today. I think if and when he is more comfortable, he will start jumping in the rush more and score a few more goals.
It'd be a shorter list to say which leafs d Stue and the sens didn't get by haha.

I thought he was good. Took a lot of pressure off of Muzzin, some good breakout passes

He got burned by stutzle once but recovered well and hell, TJ Brodie is our best defensive Dman and he got absolutely walked by stutzle too, shit happens.

The rest of the game he played really solid, maybe one or two small mistakes, but offset by some great stick checks and nice outlet passes.

Sounds like he's going to the Marlies because of our cap disaster, but he's shown he's ready for some consistent NHL minutes.
Stootz made Brodie and Muzzin look silly last year as a rookie as well. Now that he's unleashed from the North I'm sure he'll create a list of victims this season. Definitely not holding this against Lil

Oh look, Liljegren’s already good in all three zones.

Now if he was a Dubas pick and got spoon fed PP time like Sandin does, we just might be talking about a Calder contender.
Liljegren has always had a solid offensive game. I'm so proud of what he's been able to do on the defensive side. I think with time, he's going to get comfortable at the NHL level defensively and the offense will follow close behind. Hopefully he continues to play.

I really don't understand the discourse about not being a Dubas pick. A GM simply wants to win. The best players will play. Tonight was a solid step in the right direction by Liljegren. I've been pulling for him for a long time.

Because our cap is so well run, we now get a free injury call up in Hutch that doesn't count against the cap, which means no need to send anyone down even with 3 non-ltir injuries.
Yes, that great cap management that saw us forced to dress a college kid as backup 3 games into the season and lose Brooks on waivers to the team who beat us out of the playoffs last year. That is some great work indeed. Those other teams who pay their superstars a fair wage and have cap flexibility are doing it all wrong I'm sure.

Like Colorado, who have played a man short both games this year, or Vegas who played a man short 10 times past year, even played 3 mem short once.

And yes, we have such good depth that our #7 center Brooks was scooped up on waivers.

Honestly Muzzin is the perfect partner to mentor Liljegren to try and figure out how to contribute offense 5 on 5 at this level while playing well defensively.

Jake only has 5 PP points as a member of the Leafs and still averages almost half a point a game.

Liljegren has a higher upside than Muzzin ever did so hopefully we can find a way to stick them together like glue.

We chose the PTO route. The other options were LTIR and waiver. Pridham is an expert working the CBA. This way we fall up Hutch on emergency recall. We acrue cap and Hutchinson's cap hit doesn't count.

Surprising that people are not embarrassed to write this 'no Dubas pick' bullshit. Sandin is a special player and could become something great. Liljegren is a very good defenseman.
Very solid first game. Hopefully many more to come.

can I ask what was so solid about his game tonight? I feel like I’m missing that part. Outside of saving a goal. He almost cost us a goal on a horrendous turn over. Stuzle blew right past him a couple times for semi break aways, looked flustered on the PK. It didn’t seem solid to me

Because you are looking for mistakes from Lily where you expect them from others.

Lily had the fewest gaffs of all the D-men.

Why people need to only see the bad.....it's ridiculous and speaks to lack of hockey knowledge.

Are you even a fan of this team?

Happy he had a good game. Happy he’s paired with Muzz.

Almost most happy that the takes in here aren’t the hot kind, and are balanced.

Spoon fed the best defender we have.

Was speed burned on a simple play by Stuz
Had a easy PK clear and shot it right to the Ottawa point man.
Had a nice block that might have saved a goal.

I will give him the first game jitters and hopefully he will improve from here.

There isn’t much middle ground with this kid it seems. Last night if he made a 8 foot exit pass some were posting like he should be bronzed. Then if he made a normal D hiccup, some said he should never see the ice again.

Last night he was fine.

Yeah, the two worst plays of the night, by any Leaf, were both Lily. With that being said, he was pretty decent otherwise - he may just need more time to adjust to NHL speed.

I think it’s pretty clear that right now, he’s our #7, not top 6. Sandin, Holl and Dermott are all currently better, but Lily isn’t far off. When there are injuries, he should be the first call up every time, and that experience will do him a lot of good IMO. However, I don’t think he should play when the top 6 are all healthy, he’s not quite there yet.

What about perfect defence to suppress Ennis and then Bunting takes the puck the other way for a goal. Watch Lily before the puck even gets to Ennis he's already 2 steps ahead of the play and knows it's going there.

Truly wish people would actually watch games before posting
