Can't understand the Sandin hatred for the life of me. The guy's been a machine the first two games.

Dermott? I cannot believe they paid this guy $1.5M.. They don't even trust him on the PK yet, and he's STILL playing ridiculously low/sheltered mins. 13 minutes last night?? WTF. Just move on from this guy already. Sandin has easily been better defensively than Dermott these first two games.
People see Sandin get outskated to a puck dumped in into the corner and think he's unplayable as a result lol

what have you not liked about their best defenseman so far that you think it's obvious he should come out of the lineup? He also outperformed Liljegren in the preseason

Performing well in a sheltered role does not make him our best defenseman, and being in a sheltered role is exactly the reason why he would be the first one to come out. He should be putting up the kind of metrics he has right now, because otherwise he has literally no reason to stay in the lineup. Even with those metrics, there is a much lower ceiling for value that his role provides.

Now maybe you could argue keeping Sandin in over Dermott, but Dermott has a more refined defensive game and ultimately I would prefer he plays on a bottom pairing with a guy like Holl right now more than Sandin. Never mind the contract, waivers, and development considerations, which makes the choice that much easier.

As for preseason, Sandin played with Dermott, Brodie, Holl, and Biega for his 4 preseason games. Liljegren played with Kral, Rubins, and Muzzin for his 3 games. I would hope Sandin has better metrics, but I certainly wouldn't say he had a better preseason. Liljegren showed he had a much more refined game.

No he didn't. Also I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

No I wasn't sarcastic. Sandin should be the one who comes out.

Liljegren fanboys whining contest already in full force.
I really hope he will make it as the 7th D at least though. And I think he will, Dubas favoring his own players is bullshit.
It doesn't help you have users using name calling to make a point when they don't have a point, and it's from the same user. Any way to make a point I guess.

yes

I've actually really really liked Dermott to date, personally I have our amen's performance so far like this:

Rielly
Dermott
Brodie
Sandin
Muzzin
Holl

I would agree with this based on these two games, but Holl and Muzzin are not coming out of the lineup (at least not after 2 games) when they have a huge sample size of success and are playing a very important role... Just like Rielly and Brodie are not coming out if they had bad games. Which once again leads to Sandin being the choice to come out.

It does, but if he had Reilly's legs he'd already be a top D man

It's his biggest area for growth for sure but it does not hold him back to level proposed by many on this site

I am not sure he has the defensive IQ at this point to be a top defenseman. If he did, he would be able to handle a lot more even with his skating.

I would say that if he had Rielly's legs, he could probably be at the same point as Rielly was when he was Sandin's age, but Rielly was not a top pairing defenseman at 21 either.

However the fact that he doesn't have the defensive IQ and the legs makes me question if he should be in the NHL right now.

I agree they won't come out, but I do think that Muzzin must be nursing something

This is a very simple an easy answer here Keefer. Take out Holl insert Lily and keep everything else da same. Da 1st and 3rd pairs are doing fine. And it was very clear in preseason that Muzzy and Lily worked extremely well together. Much better then Holl and Muzzy have ever ever done together ever. People this is a freakin hockey game and a coach needs to tell his weakest link he better get his head into playing D. Hockey is a team game and all players must play same system. You can't have one guy Holl doing whatever da bleep he wants on da ice.

FREE LILLY!!!!!

We could use a little more mobility on the backend. Split Muzzin and Holl. Take Sandin out and put Lilly in.

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren
Dermott Holl

That is what I would do.

Then as soon as there is an injury, and if they want Sandin in, they can put Dermott on his off side (if a RD is hurt) or Sandin just goes in straight on LD. Sandin is still going to get a good amount of playing time that way.

Team has allowed 4 goals against in 2 games and everyone on here wants change.

One kicked in, one double doinker.

Tough crowd.

And how many times did Campbell and Mrazek bail us out? We have given up way too many high danger chances in those 2 games. Especially in the 1st.

In terms of performance so far this year I'd have them as follows.

Sandin/Reilly
Dermott
Brodie
Muzzin/Holl

Muzzin by far the most disappointing considering expectations, but really the least concerning considering his capabilities and the extremely small sample size.

It really should be Holl that Lil replaces based on performance, but we all know that's not happening.
