The time is right. Such a skilled player.
I expect some painful turnovers and defensive miscues but he is a rookie in the best league in the world so you can’t expect perfection immediately.
In a couple of years this guy could be top end second pairing I think. He is fast, strong, and really agile.

I still think Lilly is going to be a late bloomer, kinda like Stralman, and be a rock defensively in his mid-late 20's. Hopefully we have the patience to let him continue developing.

Except you didn't do that did you. How about offering something that counters my point about how weak he is in his own end instead of feigning disinterest?
That isn't true though. Teammates, coaches, opponents have all praised Liljegren for how strong he is on the puck and how hard it is to knock him off it. This is going back to his time in Sweden.

He's likely not countering your point because your point is objectively wrong.
In general you are supposed to counter points that are"objectively wrong" that's what a discussion or a debate is all about. It's more likely that people choose not to confront things they cannot accept, such as Liljegren is weak sauce in his own end. Its easier to ignore and insulate yourself with other like minded devotees to the cult of Lilly. When some tanking team grabs him off waivers from us its going to be fun to revisit this thread.

Here's the counter:

Liljegren is extremely good in his own end, ewsily separating forwards from the puck and moving it efficiently out if the zone and into the attack and, and it's the best part of his game.

No question, myself very much included, this kid, has the same shine Schenn did for the first few years here...Many are pulling for him.

I hope he survives and thrives..

Looks like we're starting with only 6 dmen. Lilly will have to wait for a callup.

Looks like they don't want to waive Engvall after all.

This is a contract year for him. If I’m Liljegren and I’m not in the starting 6 in the season opener, I’d be fed up with being jerked around, and asking for a trade.

He has earned that spot in camp, not to mention his solid play in limited NHL minutes last year.

Do us a favour and actually watch him in his own end tonight for what would apparently be a first for you.

On a team that needs every last cap dollar, Dermott makes 1.5 mil, Lilly makes 860k, if you cant beat out Travis Dermott for the 6th D position , that kinda tells you everything you need to know about Lilly.

Lilly skates himself needlessly into trouble a few times every game. The guy is prone to Jake Gardiner brain farts.

To answer your question, "yes" to the first two points, but "no" to the last point (low hockey IQ). I mean, yes, he can end up being a bottom pairing guy, but I just didn't like the "that's his upside" comment. Even Bogosian was considered having a higher upside in his early career. The trade bait comment also had an air of negativity to it. They also all love to say that "he's been with the organization for 5 years". Technically, he's had 4 full years with them and he's entering his fifth. It's feels like another subtle dis.
to be fair, bogosian was drafted 3rd overall..of course he was considered to have a very high upside lol

Dermott is a good dman that would be an upgrade for any team in hockey.

This is our depth chart, say you replace Dermott's 13 minutes a night with the guys 2 spots above him or the guys 2 spots below him, would we really notice Dermott gone? I like Dermott but come on calling him anything more than an easily replaceable Dman is disingenuous.

I'd disagree and agree. I think Dermott is better than Sandin, Liljegren, Biega and Menell. At the same time, I'd also view him as being closer to those four than he is to the top four D on the Leafs.
