I think they have both played well and would really love to see Muzz-Lily, Sandin-Holl to start the year. Can go back to Muzz-Holl late in tight games or whatever but let those vets mentor the kids and then maybe by end of year you go back to your core 4 and sandin and Lily can be trusted as a 12 minute a night bottom pair for their first full year.

I don't know why you guys listen to the talking heads.

those talking heads historically have had an influence on how our club is run. To Shanahan/Dubas's credit, they have ignored their collective advice.

I'm convinced those talking heads are the reason the stars insist on top dollar. If I had to put up with Toronto hockey media bs, I would look for an extra 1.5 mill for my aggravation.

I’m all in on this

The other thing is this is the first full 82 games season since three years ago. Will be a long grind. Even without trying out some things they will be forced into it by injuries.
plus they will undoubtedly add a D before playoffs if they are tracking that way.

I dont understand why Lil never got on the PP in any of the pre-season games, as he was used on the PP for the Marlies and is pretty good there too.
Seriously ... Keefe tried Reilly, Sandin, Muzzin, Duzak, Hollowell, and Menell but he never gave Liljegren a sniff of the PP which I can only chalk up to personal bias or the decision is already made long ago they can't fit in his contract into this year's cap so why bother.

Liljegren has looked very good on the PK, where Keefe has actually used him, and has done a good job

I think Babcock was also a very negative influence on salaries. People did not want to give a home town discount to play for him.

I think it is Muzz-Holl being shutdown pair, that we don't get to see that. It's no brainer in some sense, but if we're going to match that pair I someway understand why we keep it together. Hopefully we can promote Lily that role later on, because that would balance our defense a lot.

I'm pretty sure the media had a significant influence on our RFA negotiations with the big stars.

A year or more of them saying MaTtHeWs iS wOrTh 13M+ had a big impact IMO.

So I wouldn't say Dubas and Shanahan are immune.

I like this too, although I would actually like to see Sandin-Brodie more. Put Mo with Holl for a while, and cut their minutes down a bit.

Weirdly enough the Marlies didn't really use him on the PP either. Most of his points were at even strength.

Even after Sandin left Calle Rosen got the #1PP duties. There was about a 5 game stretch where he was injured and he got a shot at it, but other than that it was PP2 or nothing at all.

Come on guy, slow your roll a bit. I know you like the player, but lets not rewrite history here. A guy who plays in the minors because he can't beat Ben Hutton for a job isn't outplaying anybody of note.
The only reason he didn't play over Hutton/Sandin last year was because of his cap hit. We literally could not afford to have him in the lineup.

All I said though was that he's outplayed Sandin, which he has, and I think Sandin needs some time with the Marlies.

More Lily disses this morning. This time from the Fan 590 morning show. Comments included:

-bottom pairing upside
-potential trade bait
-low hockey IQ

:help:

With all due respect, don't you think he could be perceived as one of these things?

Bogosian had a good year for TOR, but he was a solid #6 (bottom pairing upside). It's not a knock against him.

To answer your question, "yes" to the first two points, but "no" to the last point (low hockey IQ). I mean, yes, he can end up being a bottom pairing guy, but I just didn't like the "that's his upside" comment. Even Bogosian was considered having a higher upside in his early career. The trade bait comment also had an air of negativity to it. They also all love to say that "he's been with the organization for 5 years". Technically, he's had 4 full years with them and he's entering his fifth. It's feels like another subtle dis.

Why would they hate him?

I doubt they hate him, the media in general just aren't very smart anymore. I haven't watched a game of preseason, so I have no idea how Liljegren has done, so I'm not defending him either way. The media generally spouts off the same narratives about guys. It's often just an indication they've done very little research.
