Time to Sign Subban

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Sure you would.

I'm not saying that we should deal the guy but there's 29 other teams that would make huge offers to get him.

In terms of his current market value, sure you could get a great deal.

But if Subban becomes a top 5-10 dman in the NHL, that return might lose it's shine.

Ryan O'Reilly contract talks with #Aves ongoing while he remains in Russia. Same ballpark with Benn, Subban seeking 5M per on long term deal

Except PK is twice the player that MDZ is. Sure MDZ has some great offensive numbers and he moves the puck well, but we are talking MAB-caliber defense skills at this point...

He isn't worth much more than what he got.

Agreed but how much better is PK? Definately not 4 million dolllars better.
Subban should get no more then 3 - 3.5 mil per for two seasons.

In Montreal, I'm pretty sure Bergevin is willing to give him 8 milion for 2 seasons.

This is Don Meehan testing Bergevin's patience. Probably thought that Bergevin would avoid the circus of not having him in the first day of camp, Bergevin pass the test. Will now see how it plays out. Will the next test be at the first day of the season? We'll see.

Bergevin probably offered a one year, two year an three year options to Meehan. No way Bergevin should give a four year contract that would lead to UFA year for PK.

If you think PK will get 3-3.5M than you will be very disappointed when he does sign.

Hopefullt Bergevin doesn;t make the same mistakes as past Montreal GM's

Drafting guys because they are French (Leblanc)
Make horrid trades (Ninimaa for Ribeiro - Gomez for McDonaugh - Kaberle for pending UFA)
Sign horrible RFA and FA contracts Cole - Gionta - Cammalleri (Money was okay but term was too long)

I'd rather PK not play before Montreal sign him to Myers or even worse Doughty type money and term.

PS Boycott home games.....Players and Owners should play before empty seats everywhere for the first five home games accross the league.

That's why it's important to build from the draft. You avoid filling current holes by giving up the future or stupid contracts. That's why we have to keep P.K.

The Habs stand a very strong chance to pick top 10 this year...giving up that for Benn is not a very good idea.

Not with Benn in the lineup....

Gionta Plekanec Benn
Pacioretty Desharnais Cole
Bourque Eller Moen
White Armstrong Prust
Nokelainen

Emelin Markov
Subban Gorges
Bouillon / Kaberle / Diaz

Price

Where was Bourque ? You have removed. White from the third line ? Wise....

Those have nothing to do with signing PK to a market contract and it will be market value. The price for good young defense-man in the NHL is going up every year, not down. Patches signed for $4.5, Price $6.5, I'd expect PK to be between those numbers but closer to Patches.

NOT signing PK would be on that level of mismanagement.

I was floored when I saw MDZ get less than $3M per, I was thinking somewhere around $4-$4.5MM when I knew he needed a contract.

Comparing with Del Zotto, Subban plays more minutes, on a far worse team, handles much more difficult assignments, starts in the d-zone far more often, and can run the powerplay. If you don't think Subban has more value than MDZ, I'm afraid at the very least, you might need your eyes checked.

Subban's worth before the new CBA was probably in the neighbourhood of $6MM per, as he's more comparable to Doughty than MDZ. Under the new CBA I'd still be surprised if he didn't command a $5MM+ price tag. He's that good, he's 23, and his potential is through the roof.

Of course, Victor Hedman's second contract might be the best contract in hockey right now - amazing piece of GM work by Steve Izzeerman.
