Time to Sign Subban

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

I knew it wouldn't take long to bait one of you in.

lol. In all fairness, Subban > MDZ, but your post was way off base.

What's wrong with what he said? I saw Del Zotto plenty on the Rangers last year and in the playoffs and that sounds about right.

MDZ has more physicality in his pinky then MAB has in his whole body. Sure, he's prone to the occasional defensive lapse or bad game, but what young defenseman isn't?

Hopefully it makes PK realize that most teams not just the Habs offer these 2 years deals before long term deals

Considering Meehan is the one who represents them both, not sure how he can be asking for Doughty money and term (if that is the case) after the MDZ deal. PK between $4-5M makes sense on a 2-3 year contract. Too much over that and he's dreaming.

It was for dramatic effect more than anything. I know he's not that bad, but Subban is definitely in a different class in his own zone which was my main point I was trying to get across.

I'd argue the difference in offensive output is negligible given how much better the NYR are compared to the Habs, odds are Subban picks up the difference playing on that squad.

Precisely what I'm getting at.

He should be getting a Carlson-like pay day and nothing more. In fact his deal is a steal for the Caps given it's a 6yr deal.

I have no problem with longer term if it eats some UFA years a friendly cap number.

That being said, I still don't think they trade him if he doesn't sign. Let him sit and think about playing. That's the beauty of him being an RFA. If another team offer sheets him, which rarely happens, you can still match and poach the offering team in the future for pay back.

While a trade is always a possibility, I'll take Bergys word that its not something he's thinking of or wants to do.

That's fair.

Subban taking the year off might just gift-wrap us another Top-5 pick too, which wouldn't be a terrible thing..

Meehan isnt the problem its his client

Del zotto thinks a 2 year deal is great for him, but PK wants 5 years+ Meehan has to do what his client is asking him

Well we don't know what their conversations are so let's not jump the gun. Presumably an agents job is to advise his clients. If the client is being unreasonable in their demands, it's the agents job to manage their expectations and get them the best deal available. Sitting out, if that's what PK decides to do would be on him but that hasn't happened yet. All these negotiations are based on comparables, so MDZ signing for that term and amount only helps Bergy.

Well said.

The comparable signings should temper Subban's expectations, hopefully. My curiosity on this is peaking because I'm wondering if it's Bergevin maintaining old club policies on second-term contracts or if it's just Subban thinking he's the second coming of Bobby Orr. We'll know more once the contract is signed to be certain.

I'm really starting to wonder if PK is going to be traded..

Not totally against the idea as long as we get a good return.

You'll never get a good return if you trade Subban at this moment.

Subban will not be sitting out. Why are we always discussing these doomsday scenarios. He's in a negotiation to get the best deal for himself. He will be here on opening night.

Relax.
