Time to Sign Subban

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Even the most powerful man in the world in Obama was(is) faced racism (birth certificate really?). Not sure why it's so crazy to think PK wouldn't have to deal with some.

Did I say racism doesn't exist? Show me where I did.

Just because a player with a ****** attitude is black doesn't mean people are racist for saying he has a ****** attitude. Maybe just maybe he has a ****** attitude? Oh that can't be it, must just be thousands of racists!

Order of getting the benefit of the doubt in the NHL:
1. (White) French Canadians in Montreal
2. (White) Western Canadian Farmboys
3. (White) Anglo Canadians and Americans
4. (White) French Canadians in markets that aren't Montreal
5. Swedes, Swiss, Germans, other western Europe
6. Finns (move up a rank in Minnesota)
7. Eastern Europeans besides Russians
8. Black players
9. Russians and Belarussians

You've nailed it imo.

Kypreos's source is the same as everyone elses, Subban's agent.

And Meehan's been pretty mum on any progress.

I don't know Meehan or anyone within Newport management but I always cringe when Meehan's involved in negotiations with ' highly mediatized ' players. there is this part of me that wonders if Subban's decision to practice away from his teammates wasn't his idea, Subban would have been better served in the interest of his teammates being on the ice this week (IMHO).

My opinion is that Subban will be traded if he fails to find allies on this team, might sound silly but I am convinced of this.

I love you guys! Really, I can think of no other place where these types of associations are made in regards to ice hockey, or for anything else it seems. In any case, you can tell hockey is back on the HF Boards and I salute you all, and THANK YOU for having me!

Can't become a star in Montreal without being pelted with controversy.

Never said there was a relation, just that racism is present in this sport (and world). There's no reason to know why people say some things, but I wouldn't be surprised that some do hold opinions due to a racist view.
As for his attitude, I don't know how he got such a bad rep.

It's true. You can never prove it, and you'll get berated for making any semblance of a generalisation about it, but there will always be some underlying hatred of someone due to nothing more than their race/ethnicity/gender/religion. A lot of hockey players (and professional athletes in general) are simple hicks and cowboys at heart, so any kind of lowbrow prejudism is going to exist in some capacity in the world of sports.

As if the Habs wouldn't be able to equal...

major sigh

So all 29 teams have enough cap space to sign PK to an offer sheet high enough that the Habs couldn't match?

Offer sheet schmoffer sheet. You don't think every other GM in the league is paying attention to this situation?? If he's not signed, and not close to signing, his negotiating rights could become serious trade bait pretty quickly.

Yeah, but everytime there's something about P.K, the racism card has to come in. There's no point in bringing it up if the critics expressed towards him are not racially derogatory.

Oh cmon, it is not because of his race that the critics are there, it's because of his attitude. Take Iginla for exemple. He's categorized as one of the most class-act in hockey. Hockey guys have been raised a certain way and PK is different. All the upper management in Hockey is pretty much from guys that played without a helmet (maybe not anymore but in recent past) ...that kind of gives you an idea on how they see hockey should be seen.

If subban doest report to camp i trade him on the spot to NY Islanders for Neiderrater / Okposo + Strome / 1st 2013. :-)

No thanks.
The isles have their own contract headache in Vis. They are not looking for another one, even if it deals with $. The isles think Hamonic is developing into a stud for them and he's a rfa this summer. I'm very interested in these bridge contracts that Montreal wants Subban to sign and that Dallas wants Benn to sign.

well it's minutes before the start of training camp and I have not yet heard that subban has signed. If he is not on the ice with his team the moment it starts PK will start to lose fans. I hope he understands if he refuses the MB best offer at that moment PK will suffer.

How this is handle may ultimately give me my first taste of where I stand on Bergevin.

This is already dragging on way too long. This guy has proven more in his first two years than Price/Pacioretty and his contract should reflect this, plus it's a completely different regime in charge of the team. Bergevin was a part of the team that saw Toews and Kane get massive second contracts, and Subban is almost in that class of player.

Enough with the posturing and sign the ****ing guy.

Well I hope he signs soon obviously and I'll give the new GM the benefit of the doubt. He has a tricky period to work through here. He needs to sign potentially an elite player and manage the cap in the future. Maybe Bergevin is making sure he's clear on these buyouts so he can give PK his dough.

Things can change on a dime, but told things aren't close on the Subban contract front

Uh oh

Didn't read that Gomez was being released until a sec ago. New GM making room for next year's cap. Now he'll sign PK.
