Time to Sign Subban

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I wouldn't want to train with Gionta after the comments he made anyways. As the captain, if he has a problem with PK, he should try to solve it on his own and not involve the media. Such an immature move by our captain and I'm glad P.K has been smart enough not to respond to it.

Sorry, saw a couple of interviews with Gionta but nothing discussing PK. What was said?

Cheers!

He was whining that P.K. didn't train with his teammates, that he wasn't in Montreal because there were no cameras & that he didn't invite any fellow Habs to play the charity game he played with Stamkos.

You do realize those comments were jokes, right?

Source?
I don't think they were. It always seemed to me that Gionta didn't really like P.K. I do remember hearing a post game interview with Martin McGuire, after P.K was benched for the first time and Gionta said something along the lines that P.K. is goofing around and I'm glad he got benched.

Yeah maybe I'm just being naive, or a part of me wishes that people would have their heads out of their ***** in 2013. I just don't think (and certainly hope) it has as much to do with it as those other factors. About Simmonds, was that in North America?
It happened in Montreal, someone tnrew a banana at Weekes when we were playing Carolina in the playoffs.

You give him 4 or 4.5 for 3 years and say prove yourself if you want more.

And, since he's already proven himself to be one of the best 20 defensemen in the league, at 23, you see him sign an offer sheet for $5.5-$6MM per for 7 years. But hey, whatever works for you guys - like I said we'd take him in Edmonton in a heartbeat.

Really? He has shown flashes that he can be, but the kid isn't there yet. He did very well in points for a young player, but his consistency and decision making at times can be contradicting to him being this top 20 D in the league. I know he will get there because he has a lot of drive and determination, but I don't believe he is there yet.

Well, common sense would lead me to believe that most people would recognize potential franchise defensemen when they see them, but through my various internet travels I've come to realize that's not the case.

He plays 25 minutes a game against the toughs (with lousy zone starts), with very impressive results, and can also run the powerplay. He has almost the same P/PG as Drew Doughty, on a MUCH worse team - and is only 23.

At least it's good to know it's not just Oilers fans who undervalue their best players.

He's actually been better defensively than offensively. At least last year, he was a beast at even strength.

Can we have a source for both actually?

Which explains the change in his offensive numbers. If he can challenge some of that offense from two years ago and pair it with the defensive side of his game from last year, he'll deserve close to Drew Doughty money.

A quick google.com led me to THIS article.

From the article:

Jacque [sic] Martin had this to say about P.K. Subban in todays [sic] practice “We want to see this kind of attitude; it shows he’s ready to play and he wants to be in the line-up, nothing wrong being intense in a practice”.

As for the Captain Brian Gionta, he commented that he liked what he’s seen today from Subban, it’s a great attitude to have.

But wait, the MSM would have you believe he's a cancerous, poisonous, brash ****face who doesn't deserve to wear the sweater! What gives?!?

He was only 2 points off his first year's totals while playing 4 more games. Not some huge difference. The PP was a major factor in this. Whether PK was a cause of this or a victim, who knows? Probably a bit of both.

It's not undervaluing him, he just needs to get to another level before I will consider him a superstar. PK has impressed me a lot, I bought his jersey because I believe he will be here for the long run. He does log top 20 in minutes and was effective. He also did get a good value of points to be a top 30 in that department.

He isn't the best on the PP yet. He can't run the PP, and he isn't that effective scoring on the PP. I don't believe last year was his fault, he was really trying to get things working but he didn't have the cast to help him. No Markov to gain the zone, and even Gomez was useful on past seasons to gain the zone on the PP.

The two things PK needs to work on would be consistency and PP. He really isn't far away from being a superstar, I just don't see him there yet. He has the tools to get there, that's why this contract is tough. He deserves a long term contract but at the same time it ties our hands. Marc had the best idea to just sign him to an extension after 3 years if he gets a 4 year deal, which I think works best for everyone at this point.

On the PK also. I know his stats aren't that telling since he plays a high tempo game. The only thing I want from him is to find consistency.

Okay I'm tired of Subban

First of all he's close to being poison in the locker room.

He's acting like a drama queen by not even training with his teammates.

He hasn't yet posted the numbers and he's acting like if he just single-handily got the team to the Stanley cup finals.

If I was Marc Bergevin I'd sign him then work a deal with the leafs in exchange for a first round pick. He'd probably eat the puck so much in T.O that he'd make the team miss the playoffs for an eight year in a row and since we would be left with nothing on the blue line that we would be just as bad but with two top 10 picks in the next draft.

Im scared the same things happened with Ribeiro happens with subban! they both describe as poison they both have a lot of talent they both no matter what prove some reasonable stats with mtl, they both have some off-ice issues and they both will be/havebeen trade for nothing and habs fans will regret for years... Imagine that Ribeiro is still better than all our centerman right now lol The same things is going to happen with subban.

Stop listenning to all the medias bull****s ala Gaston therrien and Michel Bergeron. these guys are making us hate on subban and make us wanna try to trade him and they will be the same screaming in some years that we got stole in a subban trade lol

well only hope he signs no matter what the price is! but please, i dont wanna read any comment about hes not fitting in the rooms or etc... he is on montreal to stay thats It!

P.K. Subban is one of the most exciting, entertaining players in the NHL and him being skilled enough to command big money just adds to the aura. Just based on this thread I can tell a lot of Canadiens fans don't know what they have.

My favourite thing said about him is that he plays as hard in practice as he does in game. Players have complained about it. I think every player that has no longer plays for the Montreal Canadiens. That isn't simple coincidence.

It works best for MTL and habs fans, but that would be an idiotic move for Subban. If you're going to sign him until he becomes a UFA, then he is absolutely going to wait until July 1 of that year to sign any contract - it doesn't make sense for him to do anything else.

Damn it, Subban has 0,48 ppg while Doughty has 0,51 ppg, we're doomed.

If subban doest report to camp i trade him on the spot to NY Islanders for Neiderrater / Okposo + Strome / 1st 2013. :-)
Nino + Strome is a great offer, but I'm not sure I'd bite. Maybe if Streit was included in the package and we sent back something else too.

I wish we could lock out fans that talk about players like they're in the locker room with them.

That would be lovely.

It would also be great for some to understand that for anyone who has played hockey at any level, if a player has skill and can win you games, you tend to ignore if they are an A hole in real life. As long as they keep performing.
