Time to Sign Subban

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Did you ever think that the Stars wouldn't want to trade one of their best forwards for a 35 year old Cole?

Never crossed my mind. I assumed that any trade proposal I made on a hockey board would automatically have the credibility with both teams GMs to make the trade.

Are you saying that's not the case!? :amazed:

subban is not worth more than markov, not yet anyways. sign a 2 year deal for 3.5-4 mill and get those skates on!

Bobby Mac earlier on SportsCenter (TSN) made it seem like the main problem is length, with PK looking for a really long term and the Habs looking for a 2 year deal.

I don' see the benefits for Subban to get a long term deal now. Contracts numbers could be higher in 2-3 years.

Subban and Bergevin need to agree to a 2-year deal worth 4.25M$ per season.
In this shortened season, the Habs need Subban right out of the gate and Subban needs to avoid being at the core of a unnecessary distraction.
It is not in anyone's interest for this matter to drag on.

Being a top 20 dman at 23 years old is pretty remarkable. I'm really not sure what more people can expect.

2 years. 3.5- 4 million and learn not to penalise his team so much. The guy is a pro at taking bad penalties.

I'm not saying he's bad, but elite? not yet...and doesn't deserve anything close to doughty, karlsson, weber, suter, chara. He's still young and has lots of room to improve.

He wont get anything close to the players that you've listed, but he wont sure as hell get 3.5M per.

Exactly. There are 29 other teams that would love to have PK and some would overpay garanteed.

anything over 5 is too much. I'm just throwing some low numbers out to be a ******.

I love Subban, watched him play in Belleville, and was pumped when the habs drafted him. However, some expectations of Subban are not realistic, and until he becomes more intelligent on the ice he will always be a level below his peers.

Yes he was #1 on a last place team but top 20 in the nhl come on now

Even if you say top 30 or 40, that's still pretty darn good. Bottom line he is already a very good player with the potential to take it up 1 maybe 2 notches.

From his current career path he looks like what you'd call a "perennial all-star". + one notch.

He also has the potential to be a perennial Norris candidate. +2 notches.

Price, Gorges, and Maxpac are all at 6 yrs, maybe Subban is about to join them??

These guys all played more seasons/games than PK.

PK has only played two seasons so far.

A two year contract at 8 / 8,5. Is more than enough.

He needs a healthy Markov and a working PP to reach all star status. The rest is coming along just fine.

But a level under his peers is still above a TON of players, and if Markov in his prime would have been his level of "peers" and Subban is a level below him, then he's still our no. 2 D....

Intelligence is real important, but getting EVERYTHING in one guy is very rare, and when you do, you have a generational talent. Put Rod Langway's defensive awareness in PK Subban's body, and you get a GREAT ****ing HOF defensemen. But take Subban's hockey sense and Langway's athleticism and you get a player who's lesser than either of them.

PK is PK. And PK is great for what he is. He'll never be Langway and we don't need him to be. He'll be something like a poor man's Coffey, and that's totally fine by me.

If Subban can stay out of the box this year, and next, while continuing to grow...he will become a top 10 d-man and get his big check.

Until he learns to be smart on the ice, he will never reach the next level and people will wonder why we're never putting it together. I cannot remember how many times last year I was upset over stupid, stupid penalties.
