I think Nylander gets the short end of the stick when posters talk about his lack of physicality. I agree he avoids taking punishment but a lot of star players do to some extent. That said I think his puck retrieval skill are amazing. He's very skilled and strong along the boards.
Matthews is also rediculous Ly good at retrieving the puck along the boards, bunting too.
1st line Matthews and bunting
2nd line Nylander and tavares
3rd line Kerfoot and jarnkrok
4th line all 3
Imo these are all really good players at retrieving the puck so why is it that, as you stated, onky the 4th look ne was doing it well?
I could be wrong but I'm thinking that's on coaching. Either they are telling line 1 & 2 to continue the possession game or they haven't invested enough time with those lines in practicing dump and chase.
All I know is that the coach should be reading the game and noticing from the end of the first period when something isn't working and should not do the same thing and expect a different outcome, he should make adjustments, when he seldom does.
Hmm I might have to start calling him seldom Keefe
I love Matty but sorry to state he can't even get up and down ice and keep up to play right now .. never mind get in on da forecheck .. and JT is great great great down low once you give him da puck but again he takes even longer than Matty to get in there .. either Keefer has told them both to say back in our end while the D issues are a major problem or these guys have gotten much much much slower .. i know a good coach can change up lines and approach but i truly wonder if these kids can actually play a dump and chase or maybe they just don't want to do it idk

We've spent 6 years watching a rookie GM learn on the job and squander a couple of generational talents.

He'll go down as far worse than Fletcher. Fletcher didn't throw away a golden goose.
No, he just made sure that when Burke came in the Leafs had absolutely nothing to build on except a few aging vets with no-trades...

Impossible to tell and I hope Matthews isn't getting slower already. The season is way to young to start drawing conclusions, but Keefe has been the same since he started

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
I think Trotz and his style are built for playoff success. Blocking shots and play defensively alert with limiting risks. Our players would have an existential crisis if we make them do that. Dubas would too.

Not going to happen.

Wow, Keefe is taking serious heat on the radio for his bizarre pullback comments today. I listened to the audio too, and he certainly didn’t come across as confident and strong.

Trotz will really work well with Dubas lol. Probably end up apologizing to the media for a displeased expression on his face.

Ovechkin won rockets with Trotz as his coach, I don't see how it would be different for Matthews
The perception is that he kills offense and makes it very boring to play. I think that stems from his time with the NYI. They had 3- 4th lines and he didn't have the talent to play a more wide open game. They seemed to complain about him in NY way more than Washington did. AM needs to make a choice...win trophies you get to take home or win THE trophy you have to give back at the end of the summer. Playing the way we do will lead to a big trophy shelf for AM...but that's about it.

He was largely the same way in Nashville. Personally, I think it's Washington that's the outlier, and I think that's the outlier because by the time Trotz got there, it was pretty firmly established that it was Ovechkin's team.

How many top 10 scorers did Trotz have in Nashville? I think he opened it up a bit because of Ovie and Backstrom. I think he coaches down or up to the level of talent more than anything...but his systems are not fun to play according to the NYI players...so there is that.

Steve Sullivan was top 20 a number of times in Nashville. I remember because every time it happened I shook my head at the stupidity of Pat Quinn for THAT one...

Look at how absolute atrocious this history is.. Give keefe 20+ seasons and maybe he can win one time like Trotz did. All world and all average.

Can you imagine the outrage around here when Trotz has .646/.671/.610 type winning percentages and loses in the 1st round??

I wanna bump this cause...

everyone's favorite coach has one total title.

For sure, the more I think about the more I honestly believe Keefe was worried about hurting his players feelings and took it upon himself to address the players. I don’t think the players or management said anything.

I said it yesterday but Keefe looks frazzled and he was probably shutting his pants. This is really the first true test of adversity he’s probably faced in the NHL. He knows his ass is on the line

Keefe is a bad coach. Losing to inferior playoff teams like Columbus and Montreal was inexcusable. Can't wait for him and Dubas to be gone.
Great news for you. Soon the Colorado coach will be available too.

the Kraken knocked off the Avalanche 3-2 in Denver while outshooting the Avalanche 38-20 last night.

I understand the idea behind the possession game, the other team can’t score if we have the puck, but it leads to kinda boring perimeter circling a lot. Goals sure are pretty when they happen though. I miss the crash the net drives with the puck or after a puck gets on net. Dump and chase with forechecking so heavy it makes the other team bobble the puck.

I’d like to see a new coach with these players. Babs seemed to be on one end of the hardassed my way or the high way spectrum while Keefe seems to be on the other, drowned out. Get us someone better. Win some cups.

(Or get your $@&? Together Keefe)

Why do people think Keefe is drowned out? The reasoning was cause of how they played for 4 games (great sample size), now they have won two good games, so they are listening again, right?

Shanny pink slip first. Dubas second
How hasn't Shanny felt the heat or been fired yet? We know he's a me first, political, savvy bootlicker (reference Chelios comments about him)...he should definitely be the 1st to get the boot...imho

You had me until the Chelios reference part

JT AM The real deal -

in your opinion as a former hovkey player with access to info us lsymen would never be privvy to...why & how does Shanny avoid the AXE? Is he a slimy, bootlicker, me first & only type animal as Chelios claims?

Trotz makes teams better defensively without sacrificing their offense.

An interview Chelios referenced Shanny as a political, me first individual who was very self serving. Chelios does not think highly of him.
Chris Chelios, who is no stranger to scandal and controversy, does not think highly of Brendan Shanahan.

Oh, well.
