Stu will bet on himself ala norris. Contract won't happen till after this year is done.Brady said the same thing, in a way it puts much more pressure on management because it shows Timmy’s commited long term - and management should be committed long term too (and that looks like $50 million over 7 years as a starting point to negoatioations and it’ll only go up from there)
Fans will want Timmy signed now - one thing Brady Tkachuk has shown his teammates is to commit to the team 100%, but make management pay full rate for what they are getting And that is fair.
Timmy just put pressure on Dorion to sign him up, all the pressure now is on Dorion to sign him (like it was last summer with Brady) and fans won’t stop asking for it until it’s done.
Stu will bet on himself ala norris. Contract won't happen till after this year is done.
Then it will be 8x8 to be with pals norris and tkatchuk. Unless he puts up 90-100 points then who knows lol
More than happy to be wrong on this one!
So why do we need to pay DeBrincat $9 mil? He should not be paid more than Stu or Brady until he proves he can outscore them although he'll never be able to do all the things Brady can do. Hopefully, he comes in at a much cheaper cost.
If Stützle or Brady had taken a bridge deal, they would likely have gotten paid more too afterwards. They opted for security and they’ll likely both get better contracts than DeBrincat will when they expire just based on age.
I think DeBrincat probably comes in slightly below 9 mil. I’ve liked his game so far personally but I don’t think it’s about who is better - DeBrincat has proven much more at this stage than either Brady or Timmy had when they got their contracts and he’ll get paid accordingly.
let me know when they score 40So why do we need to pay DeBrincat $9 mil? He should not be paid more than Stu or Brady until he proves he can outscore them although he'll never be able to do all the things Brady can do. Hopefully, he comes in at a much cheaper cost.
I'm hoping there's open communication between DeBrincat and DJ re: PP time. But with DJ it's hard to tell if that's his style, seems like na old school tough love my actions are my words kind of guy.If Debrincat doesnt start getting prime powerplay minutes, i bet he's going to start wondering why the hell he'd sign here.
Because UFA years cost more than RFA years. That’s an understood concept in the league. He’s also a two-time 40 goal scorer, something neither Brady or Jimmy have achieved. So why do we need to pay DeBrincat $9 mil? He should not be paid more than Stu or Brady until he proves he can outscore them although he'll never be able to do all the things Brady can do. Hopefully, he comes in at a much cheaper cost.
DJ is the exact opposite from what you’ve described.I'm hoping there's open communication between DeBrincat and DJ re: PP time. But with DJ it's hard to tell if that's his style, seems like na old school tough love my actions are my words kind of guy.
Otherwise, if there's no PP TOI and no communication, if I'm DeBrincat, I'm wondering if they're trying to lower my output to drive down my cost.
Hopefully he agrees to 8.75M x 8 years. Highest paid player, one of the vets, mostly UFA years. Discount for stability. Need to give him some crowd chants when he score at home get him to feel the love.
Across his career, debrincat has played 70% of PP. In 3 games so far he's just under 55%.If Debrincat doesnt start getting prime powerplay minutes, i bet he's going to start wondering why the hell he'd sign here.
Over a longer sample size maybe but over 3 games I doubt it.Across his career, debrincat has played 70% of PP. In 3 games so far he's just under 55%.
This translates to about 30 seconds a game out of 18 minutes.
I really wonder how much a NHL player notices those few seconds compared to stat watching fans, particularly with added context. For example, do you think that Debrincat is furious as he's sitting on the bench with 30 seconds left in a 7-5 win watching zub run out the clock? I really don't think that shift is going to factor into contract negotiations.
They did have 5 forwards for one shift this season. We will see if it happens again.Over a longer sample size maybe but over 3 games I doubt it.
I truly believe this team should be going 5 forwards on the PP with Stutzle on top with Giroux. He is the most deceptive player on the team. He has the best vision and puck skills. With Norris playing so much PK maybe he is the odd man out on PP1?
The more touches the better for Timmy.
