Love that Stutzle has played so well lately that even the guy who suggested they trade him 2 weeks ago is starting threads on the main boards about how great he is.
Stützle's dominance at center is the biggest win of the season
A top 6 center was the greatest weakness on our roster, and also the hardest piece to aquire. Now, we're locked in with Norris Stützle Pinto long term.
The injuries suck but they also allowed this to happen
But if they don't allow this to happen, Stutzle never gets tried at center.
Ya, and besides Stutzle & Formenton, we are also getting a glimpse of other forwards such as Sokolov & Kastelic. And on D, Thomson and JBD are getting additional ice time that they might not have gotten otherwise except for injuries.Didn't even make Russias Olympic team and you've got him first line. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath about this player.
This might have been his most dominant game of his career tonight. Noticeable every shift. 24 minutes. Play the man DJ. The injuries this year have sucked but the way Stutzle and Formenton have excelled with the extra minutes and responsibilities can't be understated.
The plan was always to try a move to centre, the injuries just moved the timeline buy 30ish games. But if they don't allow this to happen, Stutzle never gets tried at center.
First 91 games:
Tim Stützle: 20 goals, 30 assists, 50 points (6'1, 187 lbs)
Marian Hossa: 27 goals, 23 assists, 50 points (6'1, 194 lbs)
HOF career guaranteed.
Pinto has come back and prove he is as good as many of us believe but if he plays up to that standard I think we may have the deepest C position we have ever had.Silver linings of all the injuries ..
Stutzle at C ... May never have happened
Formenton moving up the lineup and showing growth in his game.
Stutzle is paving his road to the #1C on this team. Having a C ice of Stutzle, Norris, Pinto is going to be really good.
I think you're forgetting about FisherYashin and Bonk (although Bonk always left me wanting)...Vermette?
I think you're forgetting about Fisher
We traded Yashin before Vermette too,
Spezza, Fisher, Vermette, Kelly was a good group,
Spezza, White, Smolinski, Bonk, Fisher all played center for us in 03-04 ( as did Vermette but he was a rookie and Fisher was injured a lot)
It's funny, people said we couldn't move Timmy to centre yet since he was subpar defensively, but his defensive game has improved a lot since moving to C.
This is 100% true. He’s obviously a kid that needs to be in the play to let instincts take over. I guess the org knows what’s it’s doing in terms of development. It's funny, people said we couldn't move Timmy to centre yet since he was subpar defensively, but his defensive game has improved a lot since moving to C.
I can see these guys equaling that great group. In 06/07, Spezza, Fisher, Vermette and Kelly scored a combined 212 points in 294 games.
I like the group we're putting together, but it'll be hard to beat that (as it should - since the centers above coasted into the Stanley Cup Finals).

We have had some star talent but not so deep. If Greig eventually ends up in the middle as a #4 for a while and reaches potential then look the F out.
Bonk had a couple 60 point seasons, was sound defensively. Yashin turned into Spezza, Jacques just wouldnt play him. The sens actually did really well getting Prospal for Daigle but then botched it he had a great career.Yashin, Daigle, Bonk seemed really promising when Bonk arrived - like 3 #1 centers promising. The shine wore off Daigle and Bonk rather quickly after that though.
Assen na yo.
