I think Giroux would prefer to be on a true SC contender than a bottom dwelling team in his hometown.

I'm not sure I would call a team that finished 23rd last season, and is on a clear upswing a "bottom dweller". Next season is the best time for him to join. He could be to us what Marleau was to the Leafs when they were emerging from their rebuild.

I definitely wouldn't try to bring him this season though. I hope he goes to a good contender at the TDL and wins the cup this year.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you look at the standings it appears we are still a bottom dweller.

I don't think Giroux will care where we were in the standings on December 13th 2021. He will only care where we finish the season.

Let's wait and see where we finish. Did you not learn your lesson last season?

Where did we finish last season? Of course I will wait until the end of the season but we are a bottom dwelling team until we are not. Right now, we still are.

A 4 game losing streak and we are a terrible team with no future. A 4 game win streak and we are an incredible team on the upswing.

Yes DJ, yes, now you are getting it.

We should keep this in mind when Pinto returns as to who should be playing centre or the wing between these two (Stutzle & Pinto) 2nd line players. While some might say just push Pinto down a line he is still one of the better players on the team & has shown he is more of a 2nd line player than most of the others. He has got a great shot from the circle similar to Norris & playing RW for a while might help him recover better.

Formenton - Stutzle - Pinto 2nd line would be intertesting.
S4 - Speed, Size, Skill & Scoring. Stutzle in the middle of two good sized linemates might actually help create more room for him.

His skillset is just better suited for the C position IMO.

He can create all kinds of time and space for himself and his linemates.

Does Stutzle even get a shot at playing C if we don't have all those injuries and losing streak at the beginning of the season?

His career may have been severely altered by these events. For the better.

Definitely reactive vs proactive. Its worked out for the best imo. DJ should have seen this last year.

Pinto should remain at C imo. I think a big priority this summer should be finding Stu a legit winger to play with (like Giroux), then Pinto can anchor the third line and play with Brown and Greig/Sokolov, whoever is ready. Formenton can stay with Stu. This way you have balance across three lines. Finding good centres is hard, we’re lucky to have three now.

Man this is huge that he can play center

We were never gonna be able to trade for a legit number 1C

Norris Stützle Pinto down the middle is sexy

We just need some wingers to help Timmy's offensive flair

I'd rather go with Pinto on the third line. We still need some wingers to fill in but the roster is starting to fill out

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Formenton-Stützle-Sokolov?
Paul-Pinto-Brown
Sanford-Tierney-Ennis

Chabot-Thomson
Holden-Zub
Brannstron?-JBD?

By the time Pinto is back that might be realistic aside from Zaitsev being scratched...

No offense but why do people keep slotting Formenton 2nd line? Stutzle needs elite hands with him. Unless you have a legit top line RW on his right, get Formenton out of there.

On a contending team, Formenton is 3rd line with Connor Brown and Pinto. He might have a higher gear to his game. I haven't seen it yet.

I'm of two minds regarding Formenton.

I agree that he does not currently have top six hands. At present, we have four players who do, maybe five if you count Connor Brown. At present, we are not a contending team, nor will we be with any number of different line combinations.

At the same time, I think Stutzle is nimble, crafty and creative enough to spring Formenton and cause all kinds of havoc down-ice, whereas a guy like Nick Paul can't even keep up with Jimmy.

Even if it's just to put a puck on net, get an offensive zone faceoff, or draw a penalty, it's worth giving Forms more icetime. I think his confidence took a bit of a hit and he needs to build it back up.

Ayo cuz, why u reply so quick. i thought Micklebot was making a future roster and didn't know it was just this season, lol.

Agree though that for time being, formenton def looks like best bet, but we need brown on other side to make up for defensive issues that line can serious have, or physical.

Well, Pinto and Sokolov are in there so I'm not exactly sure.

I've been sort of down on Connor Brown this year because I expected big strides from him after the WCs. He did get married in the off-season and that can mess with your preparation.

But I did check his stats and 13 points in 21 games isn't horrible - just lower tier for a 2nd line.

It was always a pipe dream. Most #1 centers are found through the draft, usually at the top.

I'm more excited by what it means for the other two guys. Norris is in over his head as a #1 guy but will thrive in a #2 role, and it gives Pinto the opportunity to develop into one of the best shutdown centers in the league in the #3 spot.

Is that your lineup to finish the yr or up to the TDL? I expect that Holden, Tierny, Ennis & Sanford could all be gone by the TDL, maybe even Brannstrom. I also think that C. Brown is the better offensive threat in the NHL at this time over Sokolov & probably should be ahead of him in the lineup. I like Formenton, but I'm not sure he is a 2nd line player yet, however, who is better at LW at this time? Pinto isn't expected back until April 1, 2022.

The trade deadline is March 21, 2022 & the NCAA season ends April 9, 2022 & Sanderson could show up in Ottawa sometime between those two dates & it's pretty much guaranteed he gets a spot. Any lineup with Pinto in it now should probably be for next season. Greig is another guy who could have something to say about making the team, maybe even at centre. Lots of unknowns with this team & with this lineup outside of the top line.

Next Season:
Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Pinto - C. Brown
Formenton - Greig - Sokolov
Paul - White - Watson

Chabot - Thomson
Sanderson - Zub
??? - Zaitsev/Brann

That could be a decent 2nd line in time, leaving Paul and C. Brown to form a decent 3rd line with someone, perhaps Ennis.

I’d rather see Stutzle play with someone better than Formenton and Sokolov. Trade for a top six forward

That could be expensive in terms of salary to be paid and assets required to acquire such a player. Acquiring a UFA player next summer might be a better approach.

It was a " when Pinto is back" roster with some ? Marks beside guys that might or might not be called up to finish the last dozen games of the year
