Giroux might actually come to Ottawa because he lives here, that’s why. Even then it might be a long shot, but really we are not getting anyone else of quality in FA if the last few years are any indication.

He’s also genuinely a perfect fit. He can help with faceoffs which we need, is a good 200 ft player and has a ton of skill. The mentoring he would provide someone like Stützle as a skilled forward that has played both centre and both wings is invaluable. Even Pinto, Norris, Batherson etc would greatly benefit from having him around. It would also likely lead to us having three good scoring lines.

3 years I’d do without hesitation, and I probably do 4 as well although that’s not ideal. I think it’s doable if he does genuinely want to play here as reported.

He's an excellent fit NOW. He's a terrible fit down the road when we need to sign Pinto and Sanderson and his game is regressing into third line production. If you can sign him for the cost of a slightly overpriced third liner than sure, if not he's going to weight this team down at exactly the wrong time.

Expecting a 35 year old (at time of) to contribute in the top 6 is the direct opposite of how GM's should be building teams these days.

1 or 2 year contract, different story.

Why not both? We need to have 4 lines running to be a threat.

at least with Giroux we get to make offers and he can decline, but we’re not picking up a shit veteran deal here.

Copp would be a solid edition as well.

I feel like this really is the divisive season where half expect more half expect less and it’s kind of a turning point.

It’s been all placeholders up until now. I think this summer will be the time where we need to make moves to do damage.

I'm all for Giroux up until he's 35 so sure, sign both with Giroux short term as a bridge contributor or mentor. After that is when we need to start thinking about cap space for Pinto and then Sanderson as well as deadline acquisitions. Once Stu and Norris are signed our cap situation will all of a sudden feel a little cumbersome with Pinto and Sando on the horizon, regardless of White and Murray coming off.

The cap honeymoon won't last forever and we can't take that for granted by signing aging players. If it's an either / or, Copp is a much better option assuming there's no significant discount coming from the Giroux camp.

Tkachuk with first career hattrick and Forsberg with first career shutout but imo the biggest storyline was Stutzle's play at C last game. Guy was EVERYWHERE. His vision, skating, IQ and control of the puck were all on display. So was his defensive game and forecheck. There was one play he pressured Hedman and caught him from behind and battled him and Palat(i think) on his own and held it down until line change happened and we had a minute of pressure as a result.

Brilliant, brilliant sign for us Sens fans.

Now we just need a winger of equivalent skill to pair with him. Hopefully in the draft. If we got Kemmel/Yurov+signed Giroux, we could role out two lines that can score buckets. Throw in Sanderson and a more experienced Lassi and that's a playoff team.

Him being worth it now, and probably for two years or so, is enough for me. We have a few prospects in Greig, Sokolov, Jarventie, Lodin etc that play left wing and can bump him down the line-up while they play on a cheap ELC when he declines. The idea is to help Stu round into form sooner than later and get this team into contention mode, and it’s well worth it even if his contract sucks at the end.

Giroux and throw a 2nd+prospect for Kravtsov AND draft one of those guys. No brainer. Kravtsov asked for out and we have the assets, gotta think if any other GM we would have found a way.

I have a feeling that NY may want to smooth things over and keep him.

He won’t be cheap.

Nice Stutzle is playing C,our first round pick with basically be on his wing and what this team needs is speed and skill with Stuztle to make an excellent line

I think if we put DJ in an autoplay mode we will make playoffs this year. This guy overthinks everything or he is really dumb. The less he is involved in making decisions the better.

Shouldn't need a team meltdown to put a player where he would have the most impact.

Unfortunately there are the coaches who appear to think otherwise and I suspect might not keep him there if and when White and Pinto return or a vet center is acquired.

I like the line of Formenton - Stutzle - L. Brown and think it could develop some chemistry if it is allowed to play together for at least 10 games or so. I would also give Ennis some time with Stutzle to see how they might mesh.

DJ is handicapped with the roster imposed on him by the GM.

He plays like one but doesn't produce like one. How much of that is him or his linemates remains to be seen.

Part of it is his young age and stage of development. He has not yet fully developed and matured.

His line mates are not great but I think playing with Formenton and C. Brown will be better than playing with the 4th liners and AHL level players we have on this team.

We still need two more top 6 players with high speed, skating, puck-handling and shooting. scoring skills to become a consistent playoff team and SC contender.
