When Stü is going, the team is going

When Chabot Sanderson is going, the team is going

Okay, maybe an unnecessary dig at Chabby in the wrong thread. But in all seriousness, when Stützle is having a game this team is so much fun to watch. It feels like it’s about 50% of the games he’s firing on all cylinders (just my impression), I hope that percentage keeps going up.

And yeah, what a move on 87 to score.

Every time I start to get worried that Stutzle's game may have plateaud he finds another level. 100 point player in the making.

Kid's been absolutely cooking in the last 12 games (10G, 5A), leading the team in goals for the year, killing penalties, even strength production on a team that has struggled in that area, defensively responsible.

Unreal player. All the drafts where we lost the lottery, it feels like getting him and Sanderson in '20 has more than made up for it..

What makes the Sens two players (Sandy & Stu) so special that they're more likely to both become top-10-15 players then guys like Hughes, Beniers, Power, Dahlin, McDavid, Thompson, Makar, Mackinnon, Robertson, Bedard, Draisatil, Matt Tkachuk, Marner, Connor, Rantanen, Matthews, Cozens, Necas, Svechnikov, Caulfield, Hischier, Heiskanen, Dobson, Mactavish and SO MANY other contenders?

Bookmark the post, brother. Every game is closer to that realization.

I've been one of his biggest supporters, but I just don't see that. Even though his offensive game is underrated, he simply does not have the offensive flair to be a top 5 player. Elite two-way defensemen are never in the top 5.

Clearly someone who has no idea what he's talking about. Please don't say biggest supporters and then speak nonsense. Sanderson's freshman numbers rival that of all the current top-end 2 way defenders to come from NCAA route. Moreover, only Fox in the last 20 or something years had better sophomore PPG than Sanderson. And it was in the toughest division by Sanderson on rebuilding team.

Sanderson was a phenom and offensive catalyst for his team in sophomore year and close to PPG in second half of freshman year over McAvoy etc.

Sanderson always has demonstrated a habit of settling in and asserting powerful effeciency defensively, then unleashes offensively. We are seeing that before our very eyes game to game. Imagine in 2-3 years.

I think one of Stutzle's best attributes is his drive. Playing center has been huge for him and for the Sens. To play C he had to focus on improving his defensive play. He has the drive to be a great 200 foot all situations player. That's leadership by example. I think other players on the team should take notice.

He and Sanderson are the engines and real captains of the team.

Ok, and how many of these players are considered a top 5 player in the league? Just Makar?

Having a defenseman in the top 5 is pretty rare. Lists like that are usually reserved for forwards. That would mean having him bumping out one of McDavid, Makar, Draisaitl, Matthews or MacKinnon. That also assumes that another young player like Jack Hughes, Bedard or even Stutzle don't also bump one of those 5 out.

I can totally see Sanderson having top 5 defenseman potential, maybe even Norris winning potential. But top 5 player? I don't see it.

Quite honestly, me saying that it's incredibly homeristic to say that Jimmy Stu & Sanderson has absolutely nothing to do with them. They've been amazing and I could never ask more from them.

The reason for me saying anything is to simply note how much of a biased statement it is for you to say that the bottom-dwelling Sens of all the teams in the world are the ones who will have two top 10-15 players.

This is a league full of established superstars, upcoming superstars, and superstars who haven't even be drafted yet.

Literally any team saying their two u21 players are going to be the top 10 guys in the league is pure homer-ism

BUT AGAIN I ASK THE QUESTION - What makes Timmy Stu & Sanderson future top 10-15 guys in a league full of McDavids, Draisatils, Pastrnaks, Mackinnons, Makars, Karlssons and literally SO MANY other superstars and potential superstars.

Instead of saying bookmark it why don't you actually add some reasoning for your stance.

"Yay! Ottawa won the game in OT!"

"Stutzle with the nice assist to the game winning goal scorer with a 4 point night who I will identify as..."

and Batherson is PPG despite being a horror show most of the season. but yes nice night from Brady.

Sanderson and Stutzle have been our most dialed in and consistent players this season. They are leading by example. Brady and Chabot could learn from that.

Brady and Chabot could learn from that.

One of these things is not like the other.

You can desperately try to lump Brady in with Batherson and Chabot but I don't think they are in the same tier as far as inconsistency and disappointment in terms of their overall performance.

Sorry.

Can Brady be better? Sure.

Can Chabot and Batherson be a lot better? Absolutely.

Brady is one of the worst defensive players on the roster if not the worst. A lot of it because it does not seem like he knows what he is doing, but even worse is that he simply doesn't seem to care. Lots of floating.

Sets a bad example when the captain plays like that.

Sanderson and Stutzle care every shift, every second of the game. That's some real captain shit.

Brady is a winger. Wingers have very different defensive responsibilities compared to defensemen and centers.

That being said, he's still not amazing defensively, but he's far from being bad or floating.

Batherson on the other hand....

My brother in Christ, Drake Batherson is on this team.

Well, those lists are subjective so it doesn't really matter if some random dude on HF does or doesn't think someone is a top 5 player.

The truth is TS is a special player with plenty of skill/talent and has a good chance of being the top offensive player from that draft. We are lucky to have him especially since he's locked up for another 8 years.

I wonder who the Sens would have picked if we had #1 or #2?

The Chabot thing is true though. When he plays well so does the team. Sanderson has been way more consistent. Its obvious that for this team to be successful both have to play well.

Yawn. Just a brutal take. You clearly have never played but you know better than Brady Tkachuk how to play the game. haha. You really dont know how teams operate eh.

you're happy about Brady's defensive effort? his defensive focus?

we'd be so much better if everyone on the team played defense like Brady?

enlighten me.

true, Drake has been so bad he breaks my scale. but its such a steep drop off from his previous seasons and we have the scandal to take into account so it is hard to properly evaluate.

Drake and Brady brother in arms in who can care less about the defensive side.
