Brady is a winger. Wingers have very different defensive responsibilities compared to defensemen and centers.

That being said, he's still not amazing defensively, but he's far from being bad or floating.

Batherson on the other hand....

I'da say Brady does a considerable amount of floating. I'd like to see more effort in his end. Or on some nights I'd just like to see him in his own end, period. But he's a young player having a breakout offensive season so I say cut him a LITTLE slack.

However if Brady is floating on some nights then Batherson is positively walking on water. And not in a good way.

Hypothetically, if Dorion had waited until the off-season, what do people think it would take to get him locked up for 8 years? I think 9/9.5 would be the floor. This is easily one of PD's best moves.

I'd like to believe that the deal would be similar to what it is. Hughes could be used as a comparable. But then again, it could end up being more because Stu is looking like the best player from his draft

That's fair honestly. Hughes hadn't done it for a full season when he signed, but he was pacing similarly to where Stu is at this season. Assuming he can stay healthy ~90 in 82 is more impressive than 56 in 44, but not $1.5 million/year.

He and Sanderson are the engines and real captains of the team.

I couldn't agree more

These 2 players are the heart and soul of this team!

Everyone else needs to fall in line behind them

I don't mind Tkachuk being the Captain but I always felt it should've been Stutzle

It feels like a Mackinnon and Landeskog type situation to me

Not even close to the worst.

Brothers in arms by which you mean one brother is dramatically and statistically worse than the other.

The point is that they are both bad 5on5 with Batherson being even worst, especially this year. DeBrincat has been pretty bad himself, it's it has gone unnoticed because of you know who......... BATHERSON

Us being the worst 5on5 team is majorly Batherson's, Tkachuk's and DeBrincat's fault, as far as the forwards are concerned

What he did on the PP last night against Pittsburgh was unbelievable. He didn't score but he was a monster in keeping the puck despite everyone focusing on him.

second 4 pt game this year.

leads the team in Goals and Points per Game.

Will likely pass Tkachuk for the team lead in points soon.

Plays final minutes of games, blocks shots, and penalty kills.

Turned 21 just 2 weeks ago.

Tim Stützle will be this era's player who will be discussed with Alfredsson and Karlsson.

I was disappointed when we didn't win the lottery in 2020 having 2 high picks in the lottery, but it looks like it doesn't matter, we still got the best player from that draft.

2020 draft saved this rebuild IMO.
Drafting 3rd instead of 1st or 2nd is the best thing that happened to us.

I don't know if "saved" is the right word.

The rebuild was always going to revolve around that draft. That was the plan, and it's working out as intended.
Totally. Saying 'saved' makes it sound like the 2020 draft was a lifeline that was thrown at the team. The reality is it was the consequence of us simply hitting rock bottom, like every team that goes through a scorched earth rebuild does, and we made the most of it.

More apt would be to say that the Karlsson trade 'saved' the rebuild. But that would be giving too much credit to Pierre.

Anyway, Stu and Sando are amazing and in retrospect we essentially dodged the lottery bullet 4 times in 2020 by not getting the 1 or 2 pick with either ours or SJ's ball. Thank goodness.

I'm pretty sure we were going to take Stutzle at 2 if that's where we ended up.

There was certainly some debate between him and Byfield but I don't recall anything coming out saying we had Stu ahead of Byfield. I could be forgetting though.

If our scouts were completely sold on Stu heading into that draft, all the more credit to them.

we will never know who the team had ahead of the other. Anyone who pretends they know is lying.

This is not factual. If you go back and listen to what certain people that would be in the know have said, their list was as follows:

1- Laf
2- Stu
3- Byfield
4- Raymond
5- Sanderson

Catch any of the Sens scouts at the bar and they would probably tell you.
