You have to be completely insane to be a devoted sports fan.

If the Kings just happened to pick Stutzle instead of Byfield-a decision that none of us have even the slightest control over-we'd all be stewing in misery over the fact we were one pick away from a franchise center.

Thing is we paid our dues with these what if scenarios.

Kings took Kopitar after Sens drafted Lee, is what comes to mind. I am sure there are plenty of other scenarios.

Add in losing the draft lottery every year we sucked While teams like NJ and NYR won multiple times…. Not to mention Edmonton.

A true reckoning would see us winning the lottery this year :)

Loved looking back at his goals and seeing those one-timers on the PP. He is at his best when he is selfish and he continues to show more willingness to shot the puck in all situations.

Outside of another slow start that is a huge improvement on where he was last season.

Yep, he needs to figure out when to be selfish and when not to be. Selfish when shooting = good. Selfish when stickhandling in OT in the defensive zone = bad.

A closer look at his stats from Jan. 1:

GP P G A
46 59 27 32

The same rate converted to 82 games:

GP P G A
82 105 48 57

He was tied (with one other) for 8th place.

Very true, but at the same time, in another two years, Byfield will be pretty close to Timmy. But the main difference is Timmy will have a much longer time of being elite in his career (knock on wood against any major injuries). Byfield in his prime will be a beast...but that prime definitely won't be measured as a decade or more like Timmy.

I’m not convinced. He hasn’t shown flashes of Stu-like play in any game I’ve watched.

As a Canucks fan, I realize that my previous assessments of Tim Stutzle may have been tainted by my inherent bias. However, I’ve come to the conclusion that Stutzle may outshine Pettersson this season, much like I once asserted about Pettersson eclipsing Marner.

I suspect this viewpoint isn’t new to many of you, and there may already be a consensus that he’s a better player.

With fresh eyes, I’m thrilled to declare Stutzle as my favorite player in the NHL outside the Canucks

He's a good one! Exciting player who keeps getting better in every facet.

Always thought he would be more of a playmaker, but he has developed a real nice scoring touch and appears to be more balanced than I anticipated.

Plays physical, and competes well in his own zone. Ability to exit the d zone and enter the o zone is fantastic.

Could become a top 5 player in the league if he keeps developing.

Stutzle is already way better than Pettersson.

IMO he's already one of the the best 10 (or even 5) players to watch.
