I don’t think ‘we overrate our players’, I think that some of us just really like a bunch of our players, and while there is some room for improvement, I don’t see a reason for being overly critical. I think even the glowing opinions on various kids tend to be measured.

We have 4 recognized league wide star players in Brady, Chabot, Giroux, and DeBrincat, along with Stu’s coming out party this year, and Sanderson serving notice for next year and beyond.

Guys don’t have to be flawless to be excellent players, or stars in the league. Out of that bunch G is on the decline, DBC and Chabot are having down years compared to capabilities, while Brady, Stu, and Sanderson look to have super star potential.

None are generational talents, just really good hockey players who are greater than the sum of their parts.

Lots to be excited about, and talk about, in my opinion.

Like EK, definitely a second half player.

Makes sense when the nutty stuff you attempt has such low margins for error. Timing is everything.

All of this is fair.

We lucked into Stutzle so imagine how we would look going forward if he weren’t on the team.

I’ll re-iterate that I don’t necessarily see any strides in our team defence which makes me question the coaching.

I’d rather have a better idea of what we have than trade away a bunch of one dimensional guys only to find out that they can play just fine in another system or under another coach.

Anyway, no one is getting fired any time soon so we remain in that nebulous area of having no clue if we have to make any sweeping changes to the roster.

I 100% agree. Before the season started, I clearly said all the big moves we have made will account for nothing if we do not fix our Defense, which has been the main problem. Scoring was never our problem.

That is why I was willing to give away DeBrincat or Pinto or even Norris for a legit top 2 right hand D-man.

And it is obviously that DJ is not an NHL caliber team. I real coach would have this team sitting right in the Wild card spot.

Yeah, one thing I like about Stu is that he becomes a better player in the second half which is tougher, and not just racking up bunch of points in first 10-15 games when Teams are not particularly playing their best defense.

Hughes is doing some pretty remarkable stuff this year and is moving into Top 10 players in the league territory.

I’m not sure if Timmy gets to that level but it doesn’t really matter. The gap is not massive considering how much Stutzle brings other than scoring.

Has Hughes had any significant injury issues this year? Obviously last year was rough but I’m not sure it’s fair to label him as fragile just because he’s small.

Literally the only part of his game I want to see improvement on right now is his faceoffs, but Stu is out here carrying and dragging our sorry arses to fight for a WC
I want to see Stutzle score a slap shot goal. I've seen score on a goalie every way but that.

I shudder at the thought of how much dough this kid would have cost the Sens this summer if PD didn't get ahead of it when he did.

Don't want to turn this into a pointless debate about his worth as a GM, but goddamn that was a shrewd move that might have saved the team $2-3m per year on his AAV.

If he was a brat like Marner and had his same agent that answers to his insufferable and overly involved family - you had better believe he's starting negotiations at least I'm the $11m per range.

Tim's not a greedy or entitled kid so maybe only ends up at around $9.5m or so. But wow did we ever get fortunate that he was so willing to sign when he did...

He could easily end up being on one of the best contracts in the league in a fee years. Accounting for cap inflation and time, and the quality of player, its quite similar go Nathan McKinnons $6m/yr deal he signed out of his ELC.

First time I feel we got a true #1C since we had Spezza.

Zibanejad could have been one but a rookie GM threw that away.

Turris was an amazing #1B for us. He left offence to be desired.

Duchene just wasn't here long enough but he was a stop gap by definition.

Norris scores the goals a number 1C would give you but part of the role is also the ability to make your line-mates look better another great #1B who will look amazing as Stützle's #2.

I think if we had signed a coach that was as toxic as Babcock, that would have made everything worse. As much as I don't like DJ and want him gone, from what we've seen, the locker room doesn't seem messed up at all which would warrant a player wanting more to stay through the crap a coach might put on them.

Good on Dorion and Sens management for not doing what the Lafs did

I think Norris is a true No. 1 Center, and we were robbed of that this year. Norris is better defensively and has a better shot. Crazy how set this team is down the middle

Completely agree.

Stu is turning into a superstar so Norris will.probably never get the respect he deserves as a 1C.

He does everything other than make dangle passes.

Good in the dot, responsible in all areas of ice, quick and fast, amazing release and shot.

Him coming back next season improves us a ton.

I agree - but I do think that Stutzle is a very clear notch above Norris in terms of caliber. Stutzle might end up being the best center we've ever developed before.

I love Spezza on so many levels, and his talent is second to none in this organizations past or present. But everything we complained about with his game are literally strengths of Stutzles - elite skating, willingness to shoot, high compete level, dependable in all situations - Spezza would have been Lemieux 2.0 if he wasn't so questionable in all of those other areas.

Having two 1C calibre players = instant competitor

I think we're going to fly next year. We just need health. We'll be talking next year about the Sens being a top team down the middle

This is the real x factor. Just gotta keep this core together they'll all be better with another year of development. Pinto went through a little bit of a lul but looks like he is back again. It's a long season for these young players not just physically but mentally too. I know people want results now but it's a process.

And this is why we cant sign DBC for 9MM$
And thats why I think he going to leave
Just my opinion
