I keep seeing anecdotal stories and comments regarding a movement to "stop tipping". I hope that never comes to fruition.

The difference in service I receive when the server knows they going to be tipped well is night and day.

A pet peeve of mind is having an empty glass while in the middle of my meal.... it's happened a couple of times where I completed my meal without a drink and a server nowhere to found....there is no better way to ruin a dinning experience than that right there.

Service is an art and since the pandemic the service has been going progressively down hill...I suspect part of the push for a non-tipping culture is a response to tips being lower....I've seen articles blaming inflation, the economy, a normalization from a pandemic bump...no the service sucks everywhere and that is why the tips are down! I have never seen worse service than I have over the last year or so and I dine out a lot. I could only imagine how bad the service would become with no incentive of a tip and standardized compensation.

You already see it in places that "pool" tips. Those places, unless very small quaint establishments, always have shoddy service. There's always one or two who cares and 4 who don't.

Service has gotten so bad over the last year I question whether casual dinning is even worth it...if I can eat at the bar, I often chose that because bartenders almost always provide good service in comparison to an average server these days.

Higher end dining always has better service but that's not what I'm talking about.

So yeah, "let's do away with tipping". Because I don't care about providing good service and still want to be paid.

Tipping sucks because our country has forced people to accept that we have to tip well to get service we should already be getting. I absolutely hate it and we are the abnormal here. Many other countries I've been to have phenomenal service and are offended if you tip.

People who are being paid appropriately and don't have to do actually do their job for tips will provide the same service.

Tipping culture has forced its way to way more things than just the actual sit down restaurant business. That's more of my main complaint than just restaurants. I barely eat out cause I don't really care for it period but my problem is everyone wants to be tipped now.

I went to a donut shop the other day and when you checkout on the card reader it asks for how much tip you wanted. They are literally paid to put a few donuts in a box, Uber and lyft now ask for it too when they never previously did. Any sort of delivery in your house, you know the one that charges you for shipping and delivery already, they expect tips too.

I'd rather be charged the appropriate rate upfront and have the service I'm paying for than have to worry about tipping.

Tipping sucks, f*** tipping lol

Many other countries take pride in service and treat it as a real vocation. Most Americans see it as a temporary state until they can do what they want to do. Something short-term just to make some money.

If you want to compare to other countries, a good number of American servers have no idea how to open a freakin wine bottle let alone provide a proper wine service. I'm not even talking about anything overly fancy just basic presentation and handling.

Your average 22 year old American server is not going to apprentice for a year to learn how to provide proper service. They want $400/500 a week so they can write their book, do stand-up, start a band, become an actor or some other nonsensical American fantasy.

I don't disagree there, I really don't have any issue with tipping at restaurants since it's been around so long that it's gonna be hard to change. It's tipping that has creeped into everything else that is my major issue.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not sure how or when register attendants began demanding tips but it is pretty weird.

Food delivery people are different. I think they deserve to be tipped. Valets, bell hops, drivers, fishing/hunting guides are all people I tip and I believe deserve it.

HIGHLY recommending this about the tipping talk...the flow of writing style is great also.

i have a '65 original of this so i can say it's good... i love sardonic shit like this, don't f***ing hold back

(it also gets into tipping customs at the time in various countries along with what services are 'tip worthy'

Some things in life just aren't that important, like a freaking hockey team. The team discussion thread is proof that not everyone agrees.

My wife and I are on a train headed for Normandie. We arrived in Paris on Thursday and my sleeping cycle is still messed up. The boys didn’t want to come with us so they are still asleep and will hopefully avoid arrest and not try to reenact the ending of anything about Joan of Arc. This is going to be a long day. Paris has a different vibe than I expected.

Brooks Koepka is like the Alexei Kovalev of golf. If he gave half a damn he would be unstoppable. Unfortunately he hates golf and seems to be a miserable person. Surprised he hasn't ditched the tournament to go heckle Ekblad....

Building a two piece fishing rod for the first time as a commission for a coworker. She asked if I could make one for her boyfriend who is just getting into fishing but doesn't have a vehicle large enough to fit a one piece rod.

In any case, I'm not sure how I feel about this chaotic wrapping at the bottom. Part of me likes it, part of me hates it.

Color scheme looks great. It reminds a lot of a traditional arrow cresting.

Cresting are personal to identify the archer...did the customer choose the pattern?

The unbalance of the left and right side of "Kinslows 30th" looks a little strange to me. The right side looks like it has a definitive border with the silver wraps and it sort of looks missing on left side... That's just me though I like balance :)

Looks great overall.

Those look like my Dr. Slicks fly tying scissors btw.

Fishing has not been good on the upper Delaware so far this week.

Bug activity has been sporadic at best and it's been pretty cold the last couple of days. It's only 57 degrees right now at 10:20 am.

Came for the iconic Hendrickson hatch and seeing almost no hatching activity...but have seen a very light evening spinner fall but it's producing almost no rises. Strange year it seems.

I waited on this bank for 4 hours last night for something to happen...I don't think I made a cast for the first hour and a half. Still optimistic though.

Re : tipping . Is it just where I am or do you guys have the same thing - At Subway , yes frickin Subway , the tipping option is on interact . You have to search for the no tip option . It goes off of % every place I have been to . At least 5 different locations . I mean , it’s a god damn fast food restaurant. They are not doing anything over and above … they are doing what they are supposed to do . It’s not like they bust their ass off to go the extra mile by getting you something that’s a pain in the ass for them to do . I don’t get it .
I have no issue tipping people if they do more than the norm thst their job requires .

I talked to my coworker and she likes it, but I do think I know what I can do to make it look a lot better. I'll have to cut and rewrap, but I think it will be worth it.

I haven't eaten at subway in over a decade but I've seen it at enough places that it doesn't even remotely surprise me that they have it.

The donut place annoyed me the most, I'm not tipping anything for someone to grab a box and throw some donuts in it, not saying they don't work hard but it literally was a 90 second transaction.

Subway is the only gig around here . I so wish we had Waawaa or whatever it’s called . Zero places for a good sub/ sandwich. Even local deli sucks
Wawa subs aren't all that great. I think I'd rather go to Subway.

They're alright. I'd eat one, but it's not even like they're all that cheap.

I haven't eaten one in a very long time though. Maybe when I have nothing better to do and eat one night I'll go get one.
