I use something called uBlock Origin as well NoScript Suite (I use firefox).
As a cybersecurity professional, I applaud this and encourage everyone on a computer of some sort (Or if your mobile phone allows it) to use a good adblocker, at least. I love uBlock Origin so much.
It is unfortunate because a lot of good sites rely on ad revenue to survive but there's so many downsides on other sites:
1. Sometimes the ad layout makes using that website an awful experience; more of an annoyance than a true security risk, but still.
2. Many ad networks are unscrupulous when it comes to tracking and data collection.
3. Some ads are just straight-up hijackers or scams.
I'd also like to add Privacy Badger to the list of good browser extensions:
Privacy Badger
"Privacy Badger is a browser extension that stops advertisers and other third-party trackers from secretly tracking where you go and what pages you look at on the web. If an advertiser seems to be tracking you across multiple websites without your permission, Privacy Badger automatically blocks that advertiser from loading any more content in your browser. To the advertiser, it’s like you suddenly disappeared."
