I do not even come remotely close to kmow ig anything about music like you guys.
I have an odd question for you . I really liked the Canadian band Tragically Hip when I was in high school. Great music for hanging out with your buddies and drinking (when I was 16-22 ish) .
They had an almost cult following in Canada but never did amount to much in the US. What was the reasoning ? Lyrics shitty ? Too much Canadian vibe to it ? Or just not that good of a band period?
I enjoyed their music and just wondered why they never really “made it” in the US. Or just not really a mainstream sound that could catch on ?
Good question, considering Canadian bands like Rush were HUGE over here in the states. Bryan Adams was BIG over here.
There's one really awful band from Canada that got way too popular over here in Nickelback.
I wasn't really into them, nor the American bands that were similar, but I always thought they could have fit right in with some of those popular 90's bands like maybe Live or the Counting Crows. They kind of sound sort of like a mix of those bands or even REM to an extent. I hear a little bit of that with them. There's one other band that's better than those that the Tragically Hip sort of reminds me of, but I can't think of who.
It's probably REM, actually.
