What's the best concert that you've been to?

I've been fortunate enough to see a bunch of bands but that honor goes to Paul McCartney. That was like an out of body experience.

Worst concert? Morrissey actually opened up for Paul (it was a festival) and it was as much of a trainwreck as you could imagine.

Bob Dylan sucked too.

first real concert.....kingswood music theatre (outdoor venue at canada's wonderland....an amusement park)

Dylan was probably last great on that mid-70s tour. I’ve been fortunate to see Paul from excellent seats with my youngest and yeah he was amazing. During Back in the USSR it was what I imagine a Beatles show would have sounded like. When he played Something it was emotional. I would have liked to see him on the most recent tour where they had the I’ve Got A Feeling with John on video. That would have been powerful. Paul almost doesn’t count though. He’s history he’s a living legend like no other classic rock icon (including Dylan who derailed his legacy a bit in my view).

I’ve seen a fair number of classic rock acts over the years. Generally the best shows are by bands in their prime and if possible in a smaller space. The single best show I ever saw was Bruce in the Meadowlands at the very beginnng of the Born in the USA tour. Third row. I went in not really loving Springsteen but my buddy was adamant how great he was. I walked out a convert. It was amazing. Three plus hours and every song was great. To this day the crowd singing along with him to 10th Avenue Freezeout gives me goosebumps. I saw him later on the tour in Giants Stadium and still later on thr Tunnel of Love tour and it was not the same.

Other great shows were U2 early on thr Joshua Tree Tour, the Police on the Synchronicity tour (they broke up at their absolute peak shame), Rush in 1986 or 1987 (have memory of Geddy Lee making funny hand gestures during Spirit of Radio but not sure which tour since I saw them a few times in that general era). One other very memorable show was Peter Gabriel at the Beacon Theatre on the tour for the Us album. Seeing him in that smaller space was amazing. Similarly I saw Robert Plant about ten years ago at Preservation Hall in New Orleans. I sat about five feet from him dead center (our receptionist had a sister who worked there and got us in early). Maybe 50 or 60 people in total. Not the greatest show ever given his age but just a remarkable experience for me.

The Stones have always been very good but mostly just playing the hits the same way they’ve always played them . More or less the same for the Who and Roger Waters. Still they are must sees for any classic rock fan. As I’ve said before if Gilmour tours I’m going with my youngest wherever we have to go. At that point I think I’ll be finished unless Paul decides to come around again or Ringo plays somewhere I can see him easily.

I never had a chance to see thr Talking Heads. I had a chance to see David Byrne precovid on Broadway but the rest of the family outvoted me so I didn’t get to go.

Best Concert: Muse - Jan 2016 (prudential center). Wasn't a huge Muse fan prior, still not like "fan club top tier fan" But holy hell that may have been one of the best shows I've seen.

First Show: Gwar - 1995 (Stone Pony). I was way too young to be there - but was awesome.

Great Show: Dropkick Murphys/Motorhead/ Hatebreed (?) - 1997 (?) At Birch Hill, NJ. I got to interview dropkick on their tour bus - Lars from Rancid was touring with them and got to meet him too. The club was jacking up prices the last minute (not the only time they did that). Ken Casey, on stage, took all the money they made that night (i'll guess 5k) and threw it into the crowd. Saying something about how we don't scalp our fans.

Worst: Finch - starland ballroom, around 2005. Singer was so bad. After the show another member came out to say he had the flu. Seemed odd. Also saw Cursive there, they were disappointing.

Crazy Show: H2O played a show at CBGBs in August 2002. It was like literally 130 degrees inside. Band members were dropping. Coincidentally they recorded that show, and I have the CD. I know for a fact i'm on there singing - i just don't know what i sound like. But the singer was heavy with the crowd singalongs.

Others: The Slackers (boat cruise around manhatten), Bruno Mars (pru center), Florence and the Machine (barclays), New Found Glory (various), Black Keys (msg), 90s warped tours

I saw the Black Keys in Hartford when they toured in 2013. It was the first concert I went to with my then-gf, now-wife.

Great show, but that’s not why it was special for me. Rather, it’s because my wife told me later that this was when she realized I was serious about staying with her. We had only been dating for about a month when we made plans to go to this concert more than a month out, and she was surprised I was thinking that long term.

I used to know Jordan, the lead singer of New Found Glory when we were really little kids. We used to hang out. He was born in Englewood (like I was) and I guess he and his family relocated to South Florida when he was pretty young, probably when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I think he's 2 or 3 years younger than me. He was actually one of my like really good friends when I was 6-8 years old. I knew him even before that, but there was a bit of an age difference between us.

So fast forward like 20 years later, a family member of mine somehow got in touch with one of his parents. They were telling me he's in this band now. I'm thinking it's probably not a very successful band. So within a year from then somebody tells me the name of his band. I didn't listen to any of the radio bubblegum punk music of the time, but I was familiar with the name of the band. This was probably the height of their popularity. I was like ''Wow! He's in THIS band? That's a pretty BIG band right now! I'm pretty sure this stuff is all over the radio and MTV''.

So I guess they were playing Warped Tour or something and a good friend of mine was in a band that was also playing on Warped Tour. Someone in my family had a picture of Jordan and I as kids. There were a couple of other people in the picture from both of our families. My friend went out of his way to talk to Jordan and ask him if he knew me. He says he has no recollection of me whatsoever. Whatever, he was probably not much older than 5 the last time we saw each other. Not too many years later I gave him the picture (which I don't have here with me, it was out of a family photo album) and he showed it to Jordan. Jordan was like ''Yeah, that's me! Still don't remember that dude''.

I was really bummed and thought maybe he turned into a dick rock star, but I later on chalked it up to having a superior memory to most people. I can remember (vaguely) the first names of a few people I went to preschool with at 4 years old, even though I never saw them again after that.

I don't at all care for New Found Glory, but am excited for his success, but we probably would have been great friends growing up if they didn't move to Florida. We probably even listened to a lot of the same music. Members of New Found Glory were actually in Hardcore bands.

Found that Dylan set list.

With Dylan it’s more about how he has just left behind much of what made him Dylan in the first place. I get it. He always moves forward but he lost me somewhere along the way.

Edit: I also blame Dylan for the Wilburys not touring. George always looked up to Dylan. If he had wanted to tour I think George would have said ok.

I'm not a huge NFG fan... but they have brought it everytime i've seen them. So I wanted to give them respect. Non-stop bouncing around . Last time i think he broke his foot and still rocked out.

As far Jordan memories - yea you can't get too beat up on that. I'm pretty solid with remembering people. I dont' expect them to rembember me. Memories can be emphasized or lessoned depending on what's going on in your life at that point.

My top 5...
#1 Mint Chocolate Chip
#2 Root beer float with vanilla ice cream plus vanilla on numerous things
#3 Cookies n Cream
#4 any variation of Chocolate ice cream
#5 Cannoli ice cream at Nastos in Newark

I feel like Vanilla ice cream is the best compliment to other things, root beer float, on a brownie, on a piece of blueberry pie, etc etc. I like it alone as well but it's still better when it's on top of something else.

Mint Chocolate Chip (green kind) with rainbow sprinkles 100% of the time when I order hard ice cream from a shop.

Chocolate with fudge brownies. Never chocolate alone. B&J Half Baked is my favorite.

I usually have a gallon of Mint Chocolate Chip and a container of half baked in the freezer at all times.

Prefer vanilla if I'm having soft ice cream but need rainbow sprinkles.

On the Gelato side of things, I love an Italian Pistachio.

I remember hearing approximately 20 years ago (no later than 2004) that Bob Dylan needs his sound guy to tweak his voice live because his vocals were shot and out of key.

He had that raspy voice, so it’s no shock that his voice didn’t age so well. Then again, it wasn’t that raspy either.

I gotta think Axl has to have some work done live these days. But who knows? Maybe he’s not all that bad.

One guy that’s voice was shot pretty early on was Brian Johnson. Even in the studio he was sounding horrible by the 90’s. I can’t imagine him sounding any good live today.

I actually thought he retired from singing for AC/DC for health reasons and that Axl took his place, but apparently he’s still listed as an active member of AC/DC again.

Speaking of the Wilburys and voices, Roy Orbison sounded great (in studio) on those recordings.

But then I remember that Orbison wasn’t very old when he died and that band was only about roughly 20-25 years after his prime.

The 60’s to the 80’s seem like an eternity, but it’s merely the same distance of time between the 2000’s and 2020’s or the 90’s and 2010’s.

I’m not sure if that’s because I wasn’t alive im the 60’s or what haha.

The Slackers are such a great band and have flown way under the radar for how good their songs are.

The Planet Smashers are probably my favorite ska band to see live. They will always put you in a good mood.

I am so old I've never heard of either and I'm sure both are great. I did pick up on Wet Leg from a recommendation made here and my youngest introduced me to Greta Van Fleet who I took him to see. I still maintain that rock losing its standing with most young listeners to country music and rap was a step back as an art form.

I tend to agree, but there are some flavors that are damn good, especially when homemade. There's an orchard by me that makes a homemade peach ice cream with a vanilla base that's absolutely amazing.

But hands down best ice cream I've ever had was a saffron flavored gelato made from camel milk in Dubai. It was amazing.
