The use of hard drugs is no joke. Hopefully he can serve as a cautionary tale
Was the Linkin Park dude a hard drug user? I remember seeing something about how he was very early in his life, like before the band really blew up and became huge, but he was clean by then.

I thought Chris Cornell had been sober for about 15 or so years before his death.

Scott Weiland always lied and said he was clean, but he really wasn’t. It seems he may have been off heroin for the last decade plus of his life, but he was still a very big coke user and heavy drinker from what I gather.

It’s so dangerous once you are hooked. You’d think these guys could get the best treatment too. Such a shame.

two songs of U2.....same theme.... half way through bad bono decides to start pulling girls out of the audience to dance with and kiss and then karoke mashing up songs ...classic footage

That era was thr high water mark for U2 in my view. Joshua Tree was an album that I knew was fantastic from the first listen. They had some good moments later on but nothing quite as consistent as I see it.

U2 eras

1. the fire, raw youth, so good

Screen Shot 2023-07-22 at 2.36.06 AM.png

2. lanois and eno get their paws on the band... and its incredible again

(although jimmy iovine produces rattle and hum)

Screen Shot 2023-07-22 at 2.36.46 AM.png

3. one more from lanois/eno with the mammoth achtung baby

and then they pull out zooropa and pop. at least it's an attempt at something different
(and it's not that bad in the scheme of things)

Screen Shot 2023-07-22 at 2.45.19 AM.png

4. oh f***. ... holy f***...it's only the year 2000 and this is what ended up happening. flaccid tripe, zero anything.

how many albums is this era already? what in the f***.? some singles sure, but as albums..... c'mon already

That’s a good summation. I’ll give them credit for. It giving up but who is buying any of their stuff anymore is beyond me. And I was their core audience for a long time. I don’t think I completely gave up until after All That You Can’t Leave Behind.

I don't really dig much of their stuff post-Joshua Tree and even that album is a bit of later era Clash for me, where there's some REALLY good songs that I love on the records, combined with some I just couldn't stand. I'll admit, I haven't heard much of their non-radio songs post Joshua Tree, but I don't think I liked a single radio hit from them after that album.

Of course, I'm not anywhere near as much of a U2 fan as I am a Clash fan.

Joe Strummer dying prematurely was a tragedy. Just when he was starting to play a bit with Jones again. Sigh. What might have been.

just read this post and impulsively got up to grab one of my guitars to play career opportunities. (no reason other than i love his voice on it and the song popped into my head)

3 chord amazingness....just like buddy holly.

I think we can all agree that the greatest wrestler of the last 30 years is Bret Hart. Period.

Re-watching Summerslam 92 and his match against Bulldog was just a masterclass.

I had to take my youngest to a couple of WWE events when he was younger. it was so hard for me to get into it with him. I kept telling myself to just evaluate it like you would watching gymnastics and to appreciate how hard the wrestlers work at their craft and that they try to bring energy and excitement for the audience. While it lacks the spontaneity of unscripted sports, it's still less predictable than an NBA game involving the Lakers, Clippers, Lillard, or Harden.

Most, if not all fans know it's scripted but most of the in ring stuff has a semblance of realness to it. You have to go take classes on how to do the various holds and moves, etc. No different than watching a movie or TV star's stuntman. There's just the level of competition involved.

Although the NBA comparison is really good.

I'm in a town outside of Dallas called Ennis for work. It's now 9pm and 98 degrees. How do people live here?

Better wrestler? Bret Hart.

Better entertainer? Maybe Shawn Michaels.

Shawn was a more interesting personality, but that pro-Canadian/anti-American Bret Hart/Hart foundation storyline was definitely Bret’s best character.

I love how Bret never kissed anybody’s ass and shoots on all the POS’s like Hogan.

To some extent you get used to it over time and by learning how to avoid the worst of it. Dress properly and stay in air conditioning except as needed. I ride in the morning before the sun gets up into the sky.

Bret was better as either as face or heel though. Shawn couldn't pull the good guy crap off if he tried.

Bret had the swagger and could wrestle a broomstick and it would still be a 5 star match. That shit is rare. Angle came close to this but NEVER had the swagger Hart did.

Texas, much like Arizona, is a monument to man’s hubris.
I think that's unfair. No state can be defined by its most extreme public personalities and loudmouths. Texas has a patchwork of cities and towns that cover vast demographic and even stylistic differences. It's hardly perfect but there are great places to live there like just about anywhere else.

You know how pockets of south jersey and even North Jersey (Sussex, Warren) are different from say, Morris or Bergen?

I cannot speak on Arizona but Texas is like that, actually every state is gonna be like that. We as a society just harp on stereotypes.

Upstate NY for example is absolutely nothing like NYC. This, and I'm saying this in a blanket sense, that every state is the same with the same demographics and same personalities is just a giant myth.
