She's got quite a few years on me, but it's getting kind of freaky to see people not much older than me or ages that I'm creeping up on dying of natural causes.

One of my best friends is exactly 11 months younger than me and had prostate cancer about 3.5 years ago. He was diagnosed right around his 43rd birthday. He looks younger and better than all of us that we grew up with, has never smoked anything in his life and only drank a beer when his dad gave him a sip as a very young child, eats good, is in shape. Rides motocross (at a much more competitive level than I ever did) and can ride from Manasquan to all the way to Belmar on his long board like it's nothing. And he got prostate cancer when he was just 43 years old.

Of course, it was caught early and very treatable and went into remission and he's now screened 1-2 times a year. I think it's going to once a year now, as it's been over 3 years. He's more than fine, but it kind of shook me a little bit when he got cancer that is much more common in men ages 50 and up at just 42-43..

I was reading about an MMA fighter that died not too long ago at the age of 33 of colon cancer. That was pretty shocking. A guy that's already in better shape than 99.9999999% of people on earth, on top of only being 33 years old.

It is scary when you realize you are on the back 9. I've had two health scares and so far so good but I don't think I am immortal anymore. Well, at least until I get bitten by Willem Dafoe.

That's awful. Sorry for your loss. I can't imagine.

it's cool... it does give perspective......hence part of my semi hedonisic ideals and no bullshit.... no time for that in life. snap a finger and it could be off

i was actually playing guitar with a stomp box a couple of hours ago that i inherited after days his passing ...a flanger. and of course! he owned a flanger due to his cure love (with i agree with) but not usually part of my pedal arsenal

The kid across the street from me that I taught to shoot a bow and fish since he was 14 years old died in May of cancer at 48 years old.

I'm only 5 years older but when I was 19 and he was 14 it seemed like a giant difference. He had no father figure and his mom was so happy that I was willing to take him fishing and out of the city just about every weekend in the spring and fall. By the time he was 18/19 we were really best friends. He was the youngest groomsmen in my wedding and was pretty happy to be paired up with my wife's cousin lol.

Around 2003/04 His mom died of cancer at 50. He moved out west shortly after, I think he wanted to leave everything behind him after his mom died...we kinda lost touch after a while and didn't really talk all that much...just occasionally maybe once a year, maybe a little more.

No one knew he was sick his brother and sister didn't even know. The story I got 3rd hand was he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung and brain cancer...was on his way to his first chemo...while tying his shoes to leave the house he fell over and that was it. Seems strange and not what I know about cancer, but that's what I was told.

I don't have a lot of regrets in life but I do regret not calling him more often. I really wish we could've talked one last time.

That really puts a lot of stuff in perspective. Life can be very fleeting.

so, like all their stuff
I’ve gone down that rabbit hole and in my view it’s somewhat overblown. The prevailing view is they repurposed a bunch of stuff but from what I’ve seen they grabbed Dazed and Confused and the opening thirty second intro of stairway and the drum part from Rock and Roll. Beyond that it’s a phrase or two of obscure lyrics. They get a bad rap compared to the reality and many groups have grabbed a bit here and there without protest.
